My wife's computer is affected by this at least once every hour or two. Either the game crashes to desktop, hangs and then crashes, or the computer completely just reboots.Sometimes before this happens, dialog windows will pop up (like quest updates or examine info boxes) and instead of the usual blue textured background they will be white.Occasionally she gets pop up error messages that say something like "Everquest is seeking some kind of memory amount", but usually there is no message. We have also run Crysis, AoC, Mass Effect, UT3 and a variety of other heavy duty modern games and have no such problems. She has an NVIDIA 8800 and an intel processor though I don't recall which one.Any idea what causes this or how to remedy it?

Well, if you are using Windows Vista, I have heard that installing SP1 can help with the memory errors. Other than that, I am having almost the same problems Hope this helps! --Scott

In the chat window go ahead and type "/force_low_mem_mode 1" and to turn it off "/force_low_mem_mode 0"

A couple questions:1) Does she need to type this every login, or once it is set will it stay set?2) Are there any other effects from this? Longer loadtimes/zone times? Worse graphics? Thanks!

She will either have to input the command every time, or else you can edit the eq2.ini file and add the line"force_low_mem_mode 1". You don't use a slash ("/") before the command when you put in it the .ini file.If you use EQ2 Maps or an alternative UI, you may already have an eq2.ini file. If you don't have an eq2.ini file, just create a new text document, type in the command and save the file as "eq2.ini" in your main EQ2 directory.I don't think you'll have any real issues with low mem mode. It may cause some stuttering when you get low on memory and it starts unloading textures, but the stuttering is hard to escape if you're using an 8800 card, no matter what.I also have an 8800 and, as Scootle mentioned, you'll probably want to make sure you have Vista SP1 and the latest Vista updates. I've run EQ2 on Win XP SP3 and Vista SP1, and it runs WAY better on Vista SP1. I had a constant memory leak when running on XP. This is sort of paradoxical to me since XP tends to use fewer resources than Vista. All I can figure is that it has to do with the differences between DX9 and DX10, or that it's because the 8800 was designed for DX10.On a related note, can anyone confirm the correct command syntax? I've seen:"force_low_mem_mode (1/0)" and"force_low_mem_mode (true/false)"Which one is correct, or do they both work?Josh

Ok, this is almost beyond annoying. I know I have an old system. Sony Vaio Pentium 4 3.0 ghz with 1gb RAM. Other than a lousy frame rate I used to be able to access the guild hall on the Kithicor server with little problems other than lag.

Now anytime I log in to a toon that I left in the guild hall (T3 hall for Grenrick's Guidance) it loads about 73% of entity resources and gets the critical 767mb error. I have been playing an alt now that is in TT and don't approach the guild hall. My lvl 80 Main is trapped unless I petition it out.

The last time I attempted to log in to my main I had the windows task manager running. When it got the critical error the task manager showed the game running using about 500mb. I should have taken screen shots. I enlarged my swap file to min 2gb max 4 gb and still get the error. I tried low mem mode with no effect. I like the game, I like my guild, I want to stay. I can max the ram at 2gb but will it help?

We need some support SOE.
