I'll include my DxDiag, tech transcript with the list of all the fixes we've attempted, and my EQ2_recent.ini settings after this initial post, but for those who don't want to read through all of that, my system spec's are:Video Card: 8800 GTS 512 *Using the latest driver (175.19)CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 (stock speed of 3.0GHz)RAM: Two 1GB sticks of RAM at 800MHz each *2GB's of RAM at 800MhzMoBo: 680i LT SLI (sorry, newegg.com removed this product from their site, so no link)*Using the latest chipset driver (9.64)*Updated BIOS to the latest version (P07)PSU: Thermaltake Purepower RX 600W OS: Windows XP Pro*Updated to the third service pack (SP3)-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------*Running EQ2 on Extreme Quality with quite a few sliders turned down, and all atmospheric effects disabledI recently came back to EQ2 after having my account reactivated from it being canceled for so long in hopes that my performance would of improved from the time that I had canceled my account up until now. Unfortunately, my performance is worse than ever. My overall frame rate is lower, and I'm hitching even more. The very second I log on to my RoK character, my frames immediately go to 9-13. I'm constantly hitching to 8-7 frames whenever I move my character, and standing still I'm at 9-13 frames. Regardless of whether or not I'm in a populated area, my frames still stay within those areas. When I try and run EQ2 on extreme performance on my RoK character, I'm BARELY breaking 60 frames (constantly hitching down to 55 whenever I move my character). Extreme performance + shadows, I go down to ~20 frames right away. 30 frames never even see the light of day in a city on extreme performance with shadows on.On my mainland character (human in Qeynos), I'm going between 10-20 frames in cities, and 20-30 outside of cities. While walking around, I'm also constantly hitching down to 5-7 frames. Also, similar to my RoK character, extreme performance + shadows = ~25 frames. The game runs poorly regardless of whatever area I'm in (RoK or mainland).I've tried basically every fix the tier 2 tech support team, and I could think of. The last of the replies that they had sent to me were..."...as of now we are at a loss of what we can suggest.""...with the other Tier 2 Techs here we have suggested everything""...Your computer is a little better than our work machines here and we have tested your settings with other programs running in the background with no issues."and"...I have tested the settings form my computer and was able to run the game with no issues. My FPS never dropped below 30"Last, but not least..."...Me and most of my Techs here are speechless to a point"Seeing as how I've gone as far as I can with the tech support, I thought I might try out the forums one last time to see if anyone could shed some light on a potential problem that was overlooked from the soon-to-be provided chat transcripts with the tier 2 tech support team. **Edit: The transcripts are a little backwards. For those of you who are trying to read through them, on the transcript part, read from the bottom up. Reading them from the bottom up should make more sense. I also edited the transcripts down a bit to exclude names/any information that really doesn't matter.

Hello,

I have tested the settings form my computer and was able to run the game with no issues. My FPS never dropped below 30 so I had some response from the other Tier 2's here and they notice 2 things in the services. first is BITS this handles downloads in the background and can severely slow down the performance and also with the second which is the Kaspersky Internet Security. Below I am providing you with the lines in the MSinfo we found that shows this. For testing I would like you to go to the control panel and then "administrative tools" and then services. Find these lines and set them to disabled. You may need to restart the computer for these to take effect. Also I noticed in the screen shots at the top right hand side you are using maybe Fraps to gauge the FPS? instead of this try using the F11 hotkey in game as this will use the in game FPS and lag meter.

Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0 AVP Running Auto Own Process "c:program fileskaspersky labkaspersky internet security 7.0avp.exe" -r Normal LocalSystem 0Background Intelligent Transfer Service BITS Running Auto Share Process c:windowssystem32svchost.exe -k netsvcs Normal LocalSystem 0

Regards,

Technical Support RepresentativeSony Online Entertainment

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Customer

disabling shadows did increase my frame rate, but not by much. I do not belive this is the issue however I think we have a process running in the background that is eating resources from your system. I found some that could be causing this issue. What I would like you to try is bring up the task manager by pressing ctrl+alt+delete. Go the the process tab. Below is a list of processes running on your machine I would like to try and end the process by right clicking on the process name and selecting the end process command.

realsched.exe-This is an updater for real player. It constantly is checking for updates.ituneshelper.exe-This is for Itunes just not needed for the game to run.nmctxth.exe-This looks like a 3rd party internet booster. In my honest opinion these software does nothing but make the connection slower. here is a link to the software=http://www.networkmagic.com/applemobiledeviceservice.exe-This is just a process for there apple iphone and other peripherals. This just uses memory.linksysupdater.exe-This constantly looks for updates and eats memoryntuneservice.exe-Not needed to play the gamejava.exe-Not needed to play the gameipodservice.exe-Not needed to play the gamewow.exe-Playing other games while trying to play EQ2 will cause this issue. This process is either World of Warcraft or maybe a trojan.fraps.exe-For testing disable this. I highly doubt this is an issue.avp.exe-Internet security. Most likely antivirus. These will cause major issues with performace with our games. You may also want to disable the antivirus from the task bar.

If after you disable any of these and there is an issue a simple restart on the computer will resolve the issue. Also If disabling one of these resolves the issue then we can go back and enable them all and disable one at a time to find the culprit.

Regards,

Technical Support RepresentativeSony Online Entertainment

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Customer

Not a problem! For updating the BIOS, I used the blank CD method (ran the CD during boot, went through the installation process, restarted PC and cleared CMOS/went back to default settings through the BIOS). Also, apparently for the chipset driver, I was using a driver NVIDIA had pulled off of their site (the driver version was 15.56 or something similar to that). I updated to the 9.64 in the link above.

After all this, the performance didn't increase at all (I was still sitting at single digit frames on my RoK character).

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello,

Sorry for my delay in response. Make sure you are not running any programs on your windows taskbar. If the problem persists, you should try running your system under a clean boot as this will prevent any hidden programs from loading.

To disable background programs:

1. Select the START button.2. Select RUN, then type in "msconfig" (for Vista, type msconfig in the search bar at the bottom of the Start Menu)3. Press OK4. Select the STARTUP tab.5. In the list, uncheck all boxes EXCEPT for SCANREGISTRY and SYSTEM TRAY. If you use Windows XP, please note that SCANREGISTRY and SYSTEM TRAY will not be listed - just uncheck the entire list.6. Hit apply and then OK. Restart the computer and try the game again.

================================================== ===

You may also try to change the driver version. The recommended driver for your XP NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 512 is: ForceWare 169.21. You can do it from this link. http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_...69.21_whql.html If you have any further issues or quires then please feel free to contact us.

Regards,Technical Support RepresentativeSony Online Entertainment ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Customer

I included my dxdiag, and msinfo as the attachment to provide my systems spec's. Also, my AV software is Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0.

Months ago I had purchased Everquest II, but had to cancel my account due to technical issues (performance issues such as overall low frames, and constant hitching) that the tech team at SOE did not care to help me with. I had talked to multiple tech agents from SOE who suggested the worst possible things for me (one tech suggested that I install a driver that was incompatible with my video card). Needless to say, nothing worked. I was hoping that with enough time gone by, most of the performance issues that plagued Everquest II would be gone, but unfortunately I was wrong. I'm hoping that I can get some decent help now from the SOE tech service.

I had recently reinstalled Everquest II after being awarded a free month for having my account canceled for a long period of time. After installing my, "Everquest II All-In-One Pack Including New Rise Of Kunark Expansion" disc and updating my client, I logged in and immediately noticed a very low frame rate going on my system.

On the character creation screen at Extreme Quality on its default settings, I was sitting at ~60 frames. When I logged on to one of my characters in the Human starting area, I was at ~10-20 frames, constantly hitching to single digits. When I logged on to another one of my characters that's in the RoK starting area, I had no performance at all (I was literally at 5 frames hitching to 2-3).

On my RoK character, even when I scaled the graphics all the way down to extreme PERFORMANCE, I could not break 60 frames (I was going from 30-50). When I logged on to my human character, I could not break 40 frames on extreme PERFORMANCE with shadows on (I was at 10-30 frames).

I am constantly getting overall bad frame rates, along with constant hitching on a system surpasses the recommended requirements. I've not only read that people with lesser systems than mine have been able to run Everquest II on extreme quality, but I've seen videos of people with lesser systems than mine running Everquest II at extreme quality with better performance. Even a friend of mine who uses Vista with a 7950GT video card and an AMD Athlon 5600+ CPU runs the game at extreme quality better than my machine.

All of my drivers are up to date, I'm using the latest version of DirectX 9.0, my Anti-virus software is disabled while I'm running Everquest II, my hard drive is regularly defragged, I have that "reuse vertex buffers" option enabled in-game, none of my system components are overclocked, my overall system temperatures are normal (CPU, GPU etc), I used disk cleaner to remove any unnecessary files.

I have tried basically every fix that I can think of, but my performance remains the same.

Hello,
All the information you have sent in we have tried to troubleshoot. Form looking at all of your information with the other Tier 2 Techs here we have suggested everything. The only thing I can suggest from here is to play with the in game settings to get the best performance for you. Your computer is a little better than our work machines here and we have tested your settings with other programs running in the background with no issues. I am beeing honest with you here and am at a loss on what your issue could be. The only thing me and my fellow Tier 2's think is a faulty piece of hardware that is just not bad enough to notice in all the tests or a setting that is just not set correctly or better to optimize the system. I am still going to hold on to this issue and try and find some new things to try however as of now we are at a loss of what we can suggest.

Regards,Technical Support RepresentativeSony Online Entertainment

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Customer

Hi,

Ouch, something must be in pretty bad shape then to cause all of these problems for EQ2. To be honest though, adjusting my graphical settings through the guides didn't help at all.

When I tried to run the game on Extreme Performance, I was barely breaking 60 frames on my RoK character. My frames while standing still were around 58-62. While moving around, my frames went from 50-58.

When I tried running Balanced, I barely broke 30 frames. Standing still on my RoK character, I was going from 28-33 frames. Moving, I was going from 20-28 (not even breaking 30 at this point).

I also tried manually setting my graphical options from the ground up...

1. I put EQ2 on Extreme Performance - 60 frames

2. I enabled Flora and Flora displacement, and maxed out the sliders for both - 51 frames

3. I maxed out animations and enabled cloth simulation - 50 frames

4. I maxed out lighting, and enabled all boxes - 45 frames

5. I maxed out particle effects, and enabled all boxes - 43 frames

6. I put water effects on best quality/best quality, had them rendered at the recommended amount (the option labeled "recommended" - when I was facing water, I was at 38 frames

Now at this point...

1. Model detail is still rendered at the lowest detail possible (Extreme Performance)

2. Texture Resolutions are all set to minimum

3. Shadows are disabled

4. Complex shader is set to the lowest it can go

5. The view distance is set to the lowest it can go

6. All other options that I did not mention changing are at their default settings for Extreme Performance

And even with all of those options disabled/lowered, I'm still barely breaking 40 frames.

If I try running Extreme Quality with everything running at the default settings for Extreme Quality, I'm at 6-7 frames. I have to actually lower a few settings to go up to 8-10 frames.

So it doesn't seem like adjusting any graphical settings through the EQ2 menu will help any. I went ahead and launched EQ2 from the station launcher, went on to my RoK character and saw no change in performance. Was welcomed by 9 frames on my RoK character.

Also, for my frames in the screens I provided of my RoK character, I used Fraps. Didn't know about the F11 command key. When I went and used the F11 key though, I saw my connection rate as 188 (ping), my frames as 9, and my "BPS" as 1,017. Not too familiar with what BPS is, but would that be a normal BPS rating?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

try switching to extreme quality and turning off shadows and flora displacement, those two are the biggest performance hits i think.

if i run shadows on my system( 4ghz core 2 duo, 4gb ram, radeon 4870 etc) i get fps drops under 10 fps. not sure if amd users have better luck running shadows on but i'd guess thats your biggest problem

also running in highest settings with that system(without shadows and flora displacement) you shouldnt count on more than 20ish fps in fights with a group in some zones, turning off particles will help a lot etc, you just have to play around with the settings.

Problem is, I already tried building my graphics from the ground up with no success. The bold part of the transcript I've quoted explains how I tried starting from extreme performance and increasing options from there. Unfortunately I was still having trouble even when my texture/character resolutions were at the lowest possible settings. Also, I mentioned in one part of my transcripts that when I disabled shadows on Extreme Quality, I only went up to 16 frames (doubled from 8 frames when I had shadows enabled). So there was no substantial increase in performance.

I've talked to the techs involved with this, nad not wanting to step on any toes, I'm leaving this to them. It has been sent up to higher support and they are aware of this thread now in case they need anything else.I wish i had something more to input on this topic with you.

what kind of fps do you think your system should put out with shadows etc on? because i know it wont run with it on even with a 4ghz core 2 duo, guess your only choise would be going amd, or turning off shadows, flora displacement, particles etc.. my old system: e6600 2.4ghz@3ghz4gb ram8800gtraptors in raid 0 etc used to run everything maxed but shadows, flora displacement and in groups of 6 get fps drops to 20ish or sometimes below in heavy zones

I had a chance awhile ago to group with one other person for a slightly difficult quest on my Human character, and the entire time I was in the two-person group (me and the other player) with my settings on balanced, I was at a constant 10-20 frames. It's not like I'm looking for a constant 60+ frames during raids with no hitching while having the game maxed out or anything. It would be nice though, if I could atleast stay at, or go a little bit above 30 frames while soloing in lowly populated areas.

so do you have a screenshot of the fraps framerate when your getting 7 fps ?

i would like to see it if possible

Sorry couldnt edit my above post for some reason,

This is what i do

Set the gfx to standard under the performance tab (middle option)

Turn off complex shaders under the performance tab

Set water to update 1 time.

Set both textures boxes to high or even max, but in third box (character detail distance or soemthing) set to low.

dont know if it was covered but have you made sure that Both of memory sticks are working ? possible one isnt enabled , or just isnt seated properly ?

do you play any other Online games where the game's are running very well with good fps ?

have you tried reinstalling DirectX ? long time ago i had horrible fps in eq2, i did a directx test and it wouldnt complete the tests ,so i reinstald it and it fixed the issue

have you tried tweaking your vid card options in your video card menu (not eq options menu) ? possible you have settings maxed on the vid card, maybe try turning some options in it to Off like anti-aliasing etc.. or chose Let program decide
