From the character creation screen I saw that Assassin/Swash was on the same section and that led me to believe that I could betray from Qeynos and become one in Freeport.

Turns out that my only choice was the Brigand, I like the char name and even have EQ2 collectors items claimed on it as well. (Betrayal quest is very troublesome for non porting classes!)

I have already spoken to the Brigand trainer and converted over, I could have spoken to the Assassin trainer to become one instead right?

When I first started EQ2, the guild I started with was Qeynos/good aligned and making an Assassin wasn't an option.

*update*

Went ahead and made a DE Assassin.

nope. you had to become a Ranger to become an Assasin.it's something like this.

Ranger [Good] - - Assassin [Evil]

Swashbuckler [Good] - - Brigand [Evil]

even if you did talk to the Assassin trainer they wouldn't have let you transfer over.i admit that is pretty stupid to put 3 classes into 1 category.it was said in EQ that Ranger / Assassin were in 1 category,Swashbuckler / Brigand in another.

i'm sorry. i know it's pretty confusing.

I always wanted to take up archery, but I did a little research and leading to the conclusion that: Assassin = Close Quarters DPS.

Brigands are definately overpowered in player versus player combat.

What's the big deal if the person uses abbreviations, we're all just playing a game after all.

yeah some SOE employee, who does not even understand their own game for some reason put Assassins with Rogues Assassin is not anything like brigand and swashie rogues, are de-buffers, one offensive one defensive, with utility assassins are like rangers, pure dps, one ranged with some up close stuff, one up close with some ranged stuff their game plays are not similar, if you think they are your a low level noob, rogues and predators have different roles

Dirge/troubador, Berserker/Guardian, Fury/warden, and Wizard/Warlock are all neutral classes. This means that they can actually betray from good to evil or vice versa and remain the same class. They can also betray to the same city to become the other class. For instance, my fury betrayed from Qeynos to Qeynos to become a warden.

Siclone wrote:
their game plays are not similar, if you think they are your a low level noob, rogues and predators have different roles
Except that this statement proves how you are what you describe, a low level noob.Assassins are melee with positional attacks.Rogues are melee with positional attacks.Rangers are ranged with ranged positional attacks, and some melee CA's.Just because the effect of the rogues' abilities include debuffs, doesn't change the way you have to play the class to achieve those goals. Roles and reasons for bringing one or the other to a raid don't change the way you have to play that class.Assasssins are closer in play-style to rogues than rangers, with a difference of purpose.PS: I am definitely not saying that soe was right in putting assassins in the rogues category on their class description page.
