<p>Is this ability supposed to work outside of fighting, as in you hit it but never engage just train? I always have to hit something and engage in combat before I can see it working, died several times trying to use it as a last resort when running through mobs.</p>

I believe you do need to be engaged in combat for it to work, probably for the precise reason of preventing you from training.

target yourself, turn on autoattack, hit tsunami and start running.....

Thanks for the replies target self auto attack go works pretty well bit of getting used to since I also have a guard who used to have dragoon reflexes there I just had to hit it to start parrying everything.

Tsunami and Ward together with sprinting gets me out of just about anything.
