I'm considering upgrading my video card to an ATI card to get rid of the issues with my Nvidia 8800 GTS 512 video card.I'm looking at the new ATI 4870 Video card, it looks amazing, i was wondering if anybody tested this card with eq2, any issues with it?SAPPHIRE 100243L Radeon HD 4870 512MB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video CardThanks in Advance

i bought one but waiting for the waterblock until i install it, there amazing value @ £170 but run very hot with supplied h/s and fan, theres some aftermarket ones which do allot better but make sure you get one that cools the ram and power parts of the card aswell as they can get very hot.

equivelant to the nvidia 2600 with 512mb less ram

make sure you have a 700w power supply to cope with all the extra power.

i will post some stats of it in eq2 soon as i drop it in, i not expecting it much better due to eq2's dated engine that relies more on cpu speed than gpu.

Please keep us updated, I have't purchased the vid card yet, I'd hate to find out that this card has issues, since i'm replacing a 8800 GTS that was experiencing some minor issues .

Hopefully some eq2 users will post if they have any issues also, before i buy the card.

just looking for some validation here mostly (to be sure)

Thanks in Advance

I use the 4850 and have zero issues with the card. It runs fast, stable and is able to deal with 2 instances of EQ2 running at the same time without trying. CoD4 @ 1680x1050 on very high settings with high aa and af is also flawless.

The latest drivers which include stability and speed fixes are found here

Hi,I use HD4850 card for 3 weeks now with zero issues with stock cooler. 1920x1080 on 37". Everyivhere except EF I can play on extreme quality.4870 is even better, although 4850 have best price/performance ratio. I will buy crossfire MB and probably go for 2nd 4850.You cannot go wrong either way.Best regards,

I've been using a 4870 pretty much since it launched, runs eq2, and all other games i've tried for that matter, great!

Only problem i can see is some seethrough textures when running any kind of anti aliasing, havent tested switching between super/multisampling though. Hopefully its sorted with future driver updates.

either way its a kickass card!

I went from the 3870X2 to the 4870 because of the 3870X2 incompatibility. The 4870 is great except for a few artifacts here and there. I can't wait for the 4870X2...

They basically put two cards on one board and each card has to render half the picture... this can be alot harder to manage in drivers and in many games. EQ2 is not the only game with issues in SLI.I only mention is because I would think that the same issue with the 3870 in SLI would affect the 4870 in SLI.SLI is SLI -JB

I have been using the 4850 for a few days now. With the graphics stepped up to the second highest setting, my frame rate is 20ish but my computer is lacking in some other areas but I do not get that 'out of memory error' I always got with my Nvidia at this setting. So I am keeping my fingers crossed that I do not see that message. I am very happy with it.

If you do get it, step up the speed of the fan to cool it down. For some reason ATI has it set low. I have the temps down to 50 from 80.
