My wife and I just got back into the game. She likes support/healer types. She has a 35 fury, and she is currently trying out a brand new inquisitor.I originally played a zerker, but I found him boring and not very fun. I also have a decent level swashy. She wants to try out the new starting city, but that city is evil. That leaves me with a few less options (brigand, shadowknight, another zerker... or ????).Should I go for shadowknight or brigand, or should I just level up a swash and wait to join her when she finishers the newbie zone? Opinions?

Play what you enjoy, no matter what. Otherwise you will regret it later. An alternative for you might be to play a character with her in the newbie zone, then switch to your swashy once she is ready to leave that area.

Swashy might be adequate...but not really the most ideal class for duoing with a healer. Anything that dies in under 12 seconds can be soloed by a swashy without taking any damage, and anything that lasts longer than 12 seconds the swashy will not tank very well against. You would probably be better off going with a bruiser, berzerker, or sk.

I have a Level 80 Swash/Templar combo that I have done very well with. Even before the expansion with level 70 was cap I was able to duo (two box actually) Nest of Great Egg, Sanctum of Scaleborn and with the exception of one or two nameds virtually everything in Palace of Awakening. Kunark heroics are a little tougher but if you pick up a dirge friend (or box one) you can make it a good way down through most of the dungeons. You just need to fight heroic mobs in your defensive stance and you shouldn't have a problem.

If you are looking to use your swashy as the tank you need to go down the wisdom/Strength AA trees. The 8% riposte you get out of the wisdom line will be more effective than a shield would if you take the Stamina line plus you will do far more damage with Wis AA than Stam AA line. At level 80 grouped with the healer you should be at around 50% mitigation and upper 50's% for avoidance with some decent legenary gear (this is in defensive stance). If you can get a dirge in your group you can easily make 65% avoidance.

As for healers a Templar/Inq or a Defiler/Mystic would would better than a Fury/Warden for healing the swashbucker. Wards and Reactives are far easier to heal with than have to wait to heal until after you are damaged with your fury/warden. I have an 80 Fury also and although it wasn't bad healing through pre-kunark stuff while leveling the Fury, Kunark mobs are much more difficult to keep up the heals with on the Fury. Temp/Inq are nice also in that you can spec them for melee crit/double attack and do a decent amount of damage to the mobs just with auto attack.

It takes some practice to get really good at duoing heroics, but once you do it would suprise you what you can actually accomplish. You just need to be careful on pulls and really pay attention to mobs that walk. You'll die a lot figuring out what works best for you but in the end it will be worth it.

Callus

My Wife is a fury, we duo real well. Not sure about the other healers, I would assume things would work out fine.

As for making a Brigand, I would just wait, newbee town is outgrown quickly.

Make a Tank spec with your AAs once you have enough, do the Agility line and Str line first, once you have 70+ AAs, then try other specs out, there are a lot of threads on what to make

G/L,

Jhack Sparrow

Guild: Blood Siege

Permafrost Server, lvl 80 Swashy/Jeweler

Bunion,Were you able to duo/trio the mobs in Chelsith? I did the trash mobs there in a swashy/brigand/fury trio, but we died about every 5 fights. This was while working on getting salt for crackers, so still worth it. I had 59% avoidance, and 48% mitigation... but the mobs would occationaly (1 in 5 fights) hit me for 6000+ damage anyway, along with the regular 2-3000 damage hits. Ouch!

With my Swash/Temp/Dirge trio I can kill most of the named fishmen in Chelsith without too many problems, occassionaly one will get lucky and crit hit me with a special attack but usually I can kill 5 of the nameds (the frog, the blob and 3 named fishmen) with an average of 1 death a trip. The Templar 80 ward and the spell that stops the mobs from auto attacking makes it much easier. With the dirge I get the parry buff and another stoneskin plus another heal when things go bad.

I went into Chelsith with my fury instead of my templar for part of the fury epic where I needed to kill the floating blobs and I died 15 times trying to get those updates. Without the ward and reactives some times the mob would hit me several times in a row (hazards of avoidance tanking) and kill me faster than I could heal with the fury.

I can kill everything in CoA except the last guy, I had him down to 40% once but he killed my templar and it was game over then. Other times I have tried him I have gotten annihilated quick. Eventually I'll probably be able to kill him if I get lucky, other than that the only ones that give me trouble are the ones that fear and it is usally only a problem if I am not at max health when I am feared.

As for damage my Swash does the vast majority of the damage. In CoA since they are blue mobs I have done a zone wide 3000+ dps with the swashy, 1000+ with templar and the dirge does around 500-600dps since I usually just have him auto attack and cast his debuffs/blade chime. Against the first named in CoA using my 5 minute skills I have managed a 6350 dps with my 3 man group. That is just with the Fabled epic and mostly legendary gear with a few fabled pieces. I have the templar AA spec'd for maximum melee dps and since the swashy has a magic/divine debuff he does pretty good damage with spells.

My AA spec that I tank with is

Str 4 5 8 8 1

Agil 4 8

Wis 4 8 8 8 1
