View Full Version : Gut Roar typing error or intentionally useless?

<p>Is the "1% chance" from Gut Roar in the berserker tree a typing error or was it designed that useless on purpose?</p><p>To sum up: Gut Roar gives you the chance of 1 (one) percenet per minute to counter an enemy's *class* *spell*. So once per minute we have a chance of one percent to counter something that is maybe only 10% of a mob's arsenal? Further I suppose it to have no effect at all on epic mobs?</p><p>I mean, how useless can something be in a PvE achievement tree? </p><p>Is it made that extremely useless on PvE because not to "overpower" it on PvP? PvP should not drag down PvE :-/</p><p>It could, for example, grant a 75% chance to suppress all effected mobs' next autoattack, CA or spell. Or turn it into sth likeTower of Stone - absorbing the next attack hitting the berserker (auto, CA or spell). Whatever.</p>

<p>i've seen this brought up numerous times before but i can only assume it is on euro servers, on US servers the description is as follows:</p><p>"Provides a 100% chance to counter the effects of spells 1 time. Applies only to Profession and NPC racial spells only."</p><p>duration 20s</p><p>radius 10m</p><p>max AOE targets 8</p><p>what this means to me is it blocks a specific class spell 1 time from one target for up to 8 targets. it doesn't say it won't work against epics but i can only assume it doesn't as i never see it work as an AoE blocker ability. problem is it is too difficult to test to see if it actually works or not, many assume it is worthless, others use it as a mental crutch to help them think they are dealing with spike damage the best they can but even if it is blocking anything at all it is hardly noticable. </p><p>in the outline at the top of the ability it also sais "Gut roar will counter the next profession combat art or spell.." to which i think we all know doesn't work on epics, perhaps it is only a PvP ability but i really have no clue, there's been alot of speculation about this ability but never has anyone proved its worth on anything. </p>

Gut Roar isn't all that great, but it is situationally useful. On mobs you know are a specific class it works great. Silverwing, for example, is an Illusionist and if I cycle in Gut Roar every time it's up I block one of his spells, almost all of which are illusionist class spells. It's not overpowered, but it's not useless either. Every little bit of damage you can block on a mob like that is worth it. Unfortunately most mobs either do not have a specific class, or they mostly use abilities that are not class spells and thus you can't block them.

<p>"Applies only to Profession and NPC racial spells only."</p><p>I know for a fact this works on Epic mobs, unless otherwise specified, as I've seen it reflect dmg and insta kill a T8 epic x 4 mob when it was at about 15%(?). Was a while back but I haven't heard of any updates since. The whole raid was in awe... LOL</p>

before they changed it i would use it on corsolander's aoe and it would block it if it wasnt resisted. now its useless cept in pvp/duels.

in KoS gut roar didnt exist. i think Warwolv is confusing gut roar with spellshield wich was able to reflect matron's mitigation debuff and the raid could just kill her in a matter of seconds concidering it was something like 14k mitigation debuff. there was also that exploit where the 2named statue in mystic lake that had 40%hp nuke were charmable... haaa the goodtime when EL leaded by the fearless kalidon was exploiting all they could.

<p>see i told you i forget, the tree didn't exist until EoF... heh</p><p>but yea, that's just a confusion of his raid thinking his gut roar reflected the damage when it probably didn't do a thing. even if it does work(which i'm pretty sure it does) it just has a very limited use because most mobs do not have a spell list that is based on racial and NPC abilties pool, so for about 90% or more of the content it does absolutely nothing on.</p><p>i wouldn't worry about it anyways.</p>

Actually at the beginning of EoF when my raid force was still gearing up (we had just split off from another guild) we still ran Deathtoll on occassion and I remember specifically countering Tarinax's breath weapon once with Gut Roar. I could tell because I saw "countered" pop up over the heads of everyone in the raid. It stopped working that way shortly afterwords. I still say it's situationally useful as is.

i remember the same thing on mayong with blanket of night but after checking the logs it was just gutroar countering painfull swing and me resisting blanket at the same moment.
