View Full Version : spells going off too late - on next target

I play a wizard. Sometimes after the last mob has died and while the tank is setting up the next pull, one of my spells will go off by itself. Obviously dangerous. So far Ive been lucky and only died a couple times and never caused a wipe, but Id like to figure it out and make it stop. I think somehow a spell is being queued and only going off later, maybe because it was still on cooldown when I hit it? Is this happening to anyone else? Ive take to moving a few steps after every pull is dead. I think that prevents it, but sometimes I guess I forget to do that.
The game will keep a spell in queue besides the one you are currently casting; and if there is a cooldown the casting of that spell will be delayed until the cooldown ends. I will generally press escape to cancel a spell in progress that I don't need, but since I mostly do heals it hasn't been something that I pay too much attention to.

If you directly target something and it dies, your queue of spells (even those on cooldown) will be cleared. If you are indirectly targeting (i.e targeting through the tank or an MA), your queue isn't always cleared when the actual target dies.Personally, I think it's a bug.

Basically it sucks when you have encounter spells with very long cast times and they keep being cancelled as soon as the one you happen to target dies. Just be aware of what you are doing and be a bit careful and you wont have any problems with it. The game would be much much worse for warlocks if it was removed (and possibly others).

One way around it is to use an /assist key rather than targeting through someone. When the mob dies, you will no longer have a target and will have to /assist again to get the next target.

If I cast an encounter ae spell it should and does continue to land on the encounter even when the targetted mob dies. But when the last mob in the encounter dies it should quit and normally does.
