Okay I have been getting this issue since your last Update.Application Ran out of Memory when requesting 1048608 bytes (limit: 2048mb, current: 904mb)Then when I close that window another pops up saying.Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime LibraryRuntime Error Program:CProgram FilesSonyEverQuestIIEverQuest2.exeSo far I have gotten this crash numerous times in Neriak, especially when using the Teleport padsI have had this issue on my old computer and now on my new computer which has 4 gigs of Ram, is a Q9300 2.5 ghz Quad Core Processor, Vista 32 bit OS, and a BFG 8800gt 512mb vid card. And yes I do have all the "Latest Drivers".Please help....

Thanks I did a search in the forums first, but didn't find any other threads about it. Glad to see I am not the only one. And I do hope that they fix it soon.

While we would lock a post that has nothing to do with asking for help, this is not true for this thread.Sanjir,Have you tried to run the command "/force_low_mem_mode 1" in the chat window?" Give it a try and see how it resolves your issue.

It was my understanding that low memory mode was an automatic thing that was put into the game.

It was not an automatic thing, you will need to input it yourself. This is also an issue we are tracking and that the developers are keeping an eye on.http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=364955I do not know if you have it or not already but you may wish to download and install .NET 3.5http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...;displaylang=en

If the latter, is there a way to reverse it? Other than not getting the error, what other effect does it have?

I did both things you sugested. I used that command in game but nothing happens and I'm still crashing out. I'm not gonna go fill out the stupid questionair in the other forum because obviously if there are 76 pages of it, me filling it out isn't going to help.

This error is the thorn in my side, and its starting to annoy me majorly! there has to be a so called fix that actually works. ive tried typing it in the chat box in game, didnt work, how do i successfully edit my eq2.ini file with to so called command '/force_low_mem_mode true' cuz everything i have tired hasnt worked. my eq2.ini file looks like this when opened

cl_ui_skinname EQ2MAP

cl_ui_subdir UI/

ive tried putting it as shown

cl_ui_skinname EQ2MAP

cl_ui_subdir UI/

/force_low_mem_mode true

but still no luck, how do i do it, and is there another fix out there that is garenteed to work? please help, its driving me nuts!

I havent tested out "/force_low_mem_mode true", but I know "/force_low_mem_mode 1" works. Granted 1=true.
Swinco
08-13-2008, 07:33 PM
so if '/force_low_mem_mode 1' works and ive entered true at the end in my eq2.ini file if i edit it and put 1 it should work, because i tried the '/force_low_mem_mode 1' in the chat window in game and about 2 mins after that i got the same critical error refering to application ran out of memory?

ok i have just tried the /force_low_mem_mode 1' in my eq2.ini file and got the same error this time. if you are sure it works and i dont doubt that, i must have entered it incorrectly. how is the correct way to enter it into the eq2.ini file. what i do is i right click then click the edit option, it opens it up. below the two commands i then enter '/force_low_mem_mode 1' it didnt work, is this the correct way to do it?

cl_ui_skinname EQ2MAP

cl_ui_subdir UI/

What UI do you have installed to the EQ2MAP folder?EQ2MAP isn't a UI by itself just a map program.

I apologize but I do not have an ETA for changes to the game and fixes to issues. I would check in the test server forum or Developer Roundtable and post your questions as well on there.

I have noticed in this thread a alarming trend, 32 bit os's with 4 gigs of ram, and lots of video ram. Even with enabling the PAE switch it's not a super stable solution. One reason these people could be seeing it in eq2 and not nother places would be the immensive resources eq2 can take.

Just a thought.

Bekkr

It actually has nothing to do with stability at all. You just don't get to actually use all 4 gigs, as most of the 4th GB is mapped for video ram (among other things). With RAM pricing being what it is (and has been) lately, the cost of the extra 2 gigs is worth it for the extra 1.2 or so gigs that you actually get.
Additionally, the mythical /PAE switch doesn't actually work like it used to. From someone who knows more about these things than I do:
Dan's Data wrote:

PAE mode, in its proper form, cranks the memory address space up to 64 gigabytes (two to the power of 36). The computer can then give a 4Gb addressing block within that space - or even more, with extra tricks - to each of several applications.

PAE's no good to the everyday 3Gb-problem-afflicted user, though, for two reasons.

First, it presents 64-bit addresses to drivers, and thus causes exactly the same compatibility problems as a proper 64-bit operating system. Except worse, because now you need PAE-aware drivers for 32-bit Windows, instead of plain 64-bit drivers for a 64-bit OS.

From a normal user's point of view, PAE gives you the incompatibility of a 64-bit operating system when you're still running a 32-bit OS.

For this reason, Microsoft changed the behaviour of the /PAE option in almost all versions of WinXP as of Service Pack 2. They fixed the endless driver problems by, essentially, making /PAE in XP not do anything to addressing. All versions of WinXP except for the x64 Edition now have a hard 4Gb addressing limit, no matter what hardware you use them on and what configuration you choose. All PAE does in those versions of Windows is activate NoExecute support, which, once again, you probably don't want.

This isn't a big problem, of course, since XP is not meant to be a server operating system. But it's still mystifying to people who try the /PAE flag and can't figure out why it doesn't work.

Oh, and just in case you for some reason still wanted to try PAE: It eats CPU time, too.

Hope that helps you.

Cheers,

-B.

I am getting the same problem, my error messages were as follows:

Skuz wrote:

CRITICAL ERROR

Application ran out of memory when requesting 1398256 bytes (limit; 2048mb, current: 496mb)

followed by:

Skuz wrote:

RUNTIME ERROR

Program c:Program FilesSonyEverquestIIEverquestII.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the applications support team for more information.

right after it.

I was on the trial isle playing my Evil Human Warlock, I had finished a fight & was running back to seaside glade through the wilderwood area when I noticed the frame-rate had started to chug/stutter/lag right before the crash.

I had almost zero non-essential background programs running the first time the game crashed, apart from my firewall/antivirus, however it did crash a second time afterwards even with this switched off.

I have a athlon 64/3000 single-core processor (not overclocked), 3 gb ram (2x 1gb sticks in the slots 0 & 1, 2x 512gb sticks in slots 2 & 3), a nvidia 6800 gfx card with the latest drivers, & direct x 9.0c.

I was playing on high quality the first crash & high performance the second crash, I tried the above mentioned low memory command & that didn't seem to have any effect.

I'm getting this too.. Not sure when it started as I came back recently.. Seems to happen quite often unfortunetly.Application ran out of memory when requesting 1048608 bytes (limit:2048MB, current 904MB)Vista 32bit SP14gb RAMnvidia gtx 260PS. I seem to get this in only 1 spot, sadly its in neriak which is my home city at the moment. It is on the 2nd bridge coming from the entrance to dark light woods / the default call of neriak point (if I remember where everything is correctly). PPS. or if I use the teleporter to the docks, I will crash before loading is done.

Add me as well to the list. As far as I can see it started to happen since the last LU.I do run Windows Vista Home Premium. My laptop has 4Gb (at boot taskmanager tells me that between 25 and 30% fysic memory is used). Before the last LU I had never problems like this.Femke.

I was getting these errors a lot prior to my last break. I desubbed in April 08 because EQ2 kept crashing with similar errors to above, mostly in Teren's Grasp, but they occurred elsewhere. I resubbed a few days ago and haven't seen a crash since I've been back, hopefully, I won't.

My specs are below.

E8500@stock

4GB DDR2-1000(4GB more incoming this friday)

Radeon 4870 512MB

Windows Vista Business 64

I typically run EQ2 at 1920x1200, with everything max'd out except shadows. I'd like to max out shadows, as the game looks stunning with them on, but it kills the frame rate too much.

So I did figure one thing out... For some reason, my virtual memory was set to 0 or disabled. Sure I have 4gb ram, but still... so I just set it back to let windows handle my virtual memory and now eq2 runs just fine and only uses about 68% of the total memory with vista and other things running in the background. So, if you're getting this error, try to see what your virtual memory settings are...
