I have had this account for a long time but barely used it and came back for the trial this summer and am having a great time. Naturally, my characters are all low level and I have a lot of learning to do.My lil lvl 25 gnome wizard has some powerful spells. When I start hitting it only takes a few castings to finish off a mob of my level since I do as best I can to keep my main spells up at adept 3's. However my root seems to be merely a stall tactic rather than a root. I can get it to stick most times but as soon as I hit the mob with a big spell it breaks the root 8 times out of 10. The other 2 times the 2nd spell will break it. I just dinged 25 last night and got a mez spell. Perhaps I hit that and then re-root? I dunno. It's frustrating.

Get master1 if not adept3 root. But roots have a %chance to break everytime the mob takes damge. So root, 1 nuke (no dots), root, 1 nuke, etc.I don't recall what level you get snares, but you might want to get a hex doll that lowers movement speed if you don't have a snare to stack after the root. Lowering movement speed will help you get that next root off when it breaks.Remember to use concusive as well to give you a second to get a root off.

yeah the best thing you can do is keep recasting root inbetween each nuke.

Actually thats a pretty normal thing. As your casting skill numbers improve, spell upgrades and such your roots will hold better, but typically not through an entire fight. I like to cast a good solid nuke, preferable with stun effect then root. Start a HO sequence and refresh root after you get teach HO off, sometimes you can get 2 HO's in before you refresh.

Avoid damage over time spells if you are root bombing because root has a chance of breaking with each wave of damage. the only variation to that is i think level 40 youll get an encounter root, youll use your encounter DOT's for those.

Upgrade your roots to adept 3's if you can. It doesnt say it on the spell description but that was suggested to me long time ago and they seem to hold better. Good luck, wizards rock!

^^ What they said..

Just remember..no DOTs..no DOTS...

Fastest way to kill a root is to cast DOTs. Just 1) Root 2) Nuke 3) Nuke 4) Root -> Rinse Repeat till dead.

Root, nuke, nuke, root combo seem to work 95% the time.

I would just warn you to turn encounter locking on as well...Cause be example, when a solo wizard wanders along and takes a mob i need, I throw every tiny dot on it I can, watch the wizard die, then go about killing the mob I needed.

When I'm killing 10 of x mob for a quest, and some sorcer comes along and starts picking them off without asking to team, I dot his roots. When I'm clearing to a named, and some sorcerer jumps over me and ganks it, I dot his roots.I do the same thing to mezes when a group tries to steal a named from us.I don't do it to be intentionally mean, but when someone is rude to me or my group, I tend to repay them the favor.I pointed it out for the noobie, cause if he encounter locks no one can break his roots for him.

It's all part and parsel of the whole world, everyone is different and as such treats situations differently.

A wizard dies cause you dot a solo mob and it charges them? Wouldn't work on me, we have too many stuns and snares to die cause some newb tries to kill us.

At 40 you will get a 2nd root that is ae, and you can use them both so one holds when the other breaks.

Not once has the dot thing by other players happened to me. and if it did, I can easily work around it. I suggest unlocking the encounter ifyou like heals or the helpfull assist form time to time.

To make roots more effective, raise your subjugation skill as high as possible.

-Leucippus

Wizard's primary root is affected by:- Mob's level; you'll find that yellow/orange targets will resist more roots than green/blue ones- Subjugation; max it out, and look for about items that increase your skill by about +10 in total. (this equals roughly +2 levels)- Spell quality; get at least adept III, but if possible master I- Amount of times the mob is damaged; lower amount of "hits" means less checks against the 15% rootchance break (that's why ppl try to prevent dots)

Personally, I do use dots when rooting. I combine roots with stuns, stifles, knockback abilities and most important: slows. There's a 10s slow on breaking the primary root, but the really nice one you get at lvl 35 (Ice Flame), and an AE one at 52 (Numbing Cold).

At your level, try to use Flame Chamber when your root breaks and the mob is slowly coming towards you. (the slow caused by breaking the root). Flame Chamber stuns for 3s, and the cast time of Manacles (root) is 1,5s. So with the slow still ticking away, you can attempt 2 roots.I'd also suggest to adorn your weapon with a slow if you solo a lot. Its not optimum for damage, but it helps surviveability.

Other nifty spells:First slow proc at lvl 35 (Frostbound gift), this is awesome, as every spell procs a 6s slow on the mob for the duration of FB.First encounter root at lvl 40 (Ring of Cold)First knockback dot at lvl 58 (Surging Tempest), every tick procs a knockback and nice damage. Very useful. At higher levels you can use even more spells and there's more gear available that proc stuns and roots on mobs.
