OK, I completed the Visions of Hatred, Boar's Head, Red Marble and Everling Lockets quest, and was awarded access to the the various parts of Nek Castle, including the basement. I did this partly solo, and then finished off Everling in a duo. I followed the instructions exactly, including when it says that I need to find a way into the basement, we kill the caretakers and I get a key to the Captain's Study, we enter it and continue to basement.

A couple of days later I realize that I forgot to click on a crate in the basement for the War and Wardrobe quest. I go back to Nek Castle and I discover that the Captain's Study is locked and I can't get in! What happened? I thought that once you were awarded access to those rooms you always have it?

Did you double check your journal to make sure the Everling Locket quest is showed as complete?

It could of been that your partner's finished the first time and that allowed you into the basement. But your quest still isn't completed.

Well, at least, it's just an idea. It could still be buggy..that place was always buggy.

do you mean the door to the captain's study or the secret wall inside his room that goes down to the basement? If you mean the secret wall, that part you have to each time, just read the book, kill the captain and click the thing on the floor to open the wall...

You shouldn't have to read the book everytime.

You do have to click the little stand next to the bookcase. If you can't get into everling's bedroom, then your quest didn't complete for some reason. Like Stella said, double check your quest journal.

The door to the bedroom is tricky - it doesn't open like a normal door. Only one half of the door can be clicked, and you HAVE to right-click it and choose the menu item to open it. Just clicking the left mouse button does nothing.
