Can one play a Bruiser and a Monk and have a different time at it or are they more similar and not worth having one of each?

Thanks in advance

If you only have one of those classes, I wouldn't recommend making another brawler as an alt. They are just too similar to make it truely interesting. I have a defiler as an alt currently and it's nice to see what healers have to go through to keep us up. As we rely on healers so much... just understanding their side may make us better players. Same thing applies to something like a wizard or warlock but on the aggro side of the equation.

I've got a bruiser and a monk. There are differences. The monk's windwalk makes a big difference in how I play her when exploring. The defensive buff on the monk has a shorter recycle but roots. I find it much more useful then the long recycle bruiser defensive buff which doesn't root (if I decide to fight I won't be moving much anyway). I like the bruiser heal MUCH more for soloing then the monk heal. The bruiser has a CA (which monk does not have) which immediately stops stuns, roots, etc. which has been a lifesaver at times.

And so it goes. There are subtle differences between the classes although the general gameplay is similar.
