I am sorry for this question but I am left a bit confused by some of the posts in the forums. Is it possible to have an effective monk duo that can take on some instancing/heroics as they level with one of the pair being a non healer class?

My guild is very healer heavy at the moment. I want to make a non healer partner to go with my husbands Monk. I have read dirge may be ok but he would have to respec out of STR line and he doesnt want to do that yet (his monk is in the 40s). He would like to keep his monk as the primary tank for the duo, but I don't mind having to tank a little too if it means us taking down a tougher mob.

Some ideas would be much loved, thank you in advance

It's doable but don't expect it to be as effective as a Monk/healer team. With the Monk tanking I would suggest a Brigand with all their stuns it would be a nice choice. The longer you two can keep the mob stunned the better chance you stand of winning and cutting your down time to manageable times. While a Dirge has some nice buffs you might not live long enough to enjoy them. RoK heroic mobs are more then likely going to be a no go without a healer. The time it takes to kill them and the down time you would have would make it a waste of time.

It may be brawler bias but I also think the best non-healer partner for a brawler is another brawler. You are essentially doubling your DPS and (random mathemagical guess) multiplying your tanking by 4x (ping pong tanking, heals refreshing in the meantime) while maintaining the greatest solo skill (FD). I am sure many other combos will allow you to kill faster, and maybe even kill bigger things, but being able to train around as a team, flop and reset a fight as a team, thin out a multi-mob encounter and flop to finish it off, etc., is immensely powerful and effective. You could even put Altruism on both characters and not worry about FD fails! I would give up the 1% of encounters I can't kill with that combo, but could with another, for all the powers the FD combo affords you. Bruiser/Monk combo would probably be best as you aren't doubling up on the raid/group buff but I don't think that part would be a significant loss.

Bruiser.

On solo content it wont matter.

On tough heroic single target stuff

Bruiser pulls and tanks monk gives avoid buff, uses his self heal, monk uses his heal on bruiser, monk can then hit rescue after teh bruiser gets in trouble, tank for a bit, by then the bruiser heal should be back up and bruiser tanks.

Lol, place altruism on both and never die.

Heroic encounter stuff, all u can the FD, regen up and repeat.

Both can flop anywhere together.

I can say I have duoed with monks as a bruiser and its awesome. Another monk would be ok to, but bruiser would give you a more unique buff and slightly more dps.
