Hi all!

I played EQ2 when it first came out, but only for perhaps a month or so. I've played many other MMOs and got excited about trying EQ2 out again recently (especially because it's free for the next month!) so I patched it and rolled up a new templar to get back into things. My wife and I are playing together. She has an Illusionist and I've got my Templar. We are fairly casual gamers and enjoy duoing, but we'd like to find a guild where we can play casually with other folks but still be able to duo as needed.

I've read a number of message board postings here and in some of the other healing classes and there seems to be a lot of people in each class section that think their class sort of stinks compared to other classes. I've seen people say "Templars are really stinky. If you want to be a small group/duo/solo healer, you should play a Fury or a Warden!" Then I've heard other people on the Fury and Warden boards say "Man, I wish I was as good of a healer and DPSer as a Templar. Bleh."

So given that I'm in this with my wife and we want to duo and play casually (we will meander to level 80 slowly, not fast)--and that I'd like to raid at some point in the future but I just don't have time to play 6 hours a night several nights a week, do you suggest a templar or some other class? Also, just to throw this in there, I chose a healer class because I wanted to be of use to other people so that it'd be easy (or easier) to find a group.

What do you think?

Thanks,

S.

Wow, is this game dead?

No, it's not dead. I just had no immediate response to your post. You're not asking about specific questions related to the Templar class that I can see, and I've participated in far too many Templar v. Fury discussions to desire diving into yet another.

If you're asking if Templar is a fun class to play, my answer is "yes, absolutely". If you're asking if we're the best class for you, I can't help you there. I don't know you're playstyle or even what type of class your wife may also be considering playing in addition to her illusionist.

You pretty much said it already, there are people in every class that are vocal against it (and sometimes theyre just trolls stirring up trouble in other classes boards) and some are vocal for it.

Illusionist/Templar is a little bit of an odd combo, but those can be fun. We have a guild pair that is an inquisitor/coercer and they do just fine.

If you want more detailed answers, you'll need to post more detailed info on what you like.I

Honestly, that's really all of the parameters I have right now. I want to be a viable duo with my wife playing her illusionist and me playing my templar, that's about it. I was just wondering if it was sensible or if templars were very poor in duos with certain classes (such as illusionists) or if it could work okay.

Its not a combo I have seen before but think they would be a viable duo.

It really depends on yours and your wifes playstyle as to whether it would work for you or not.

An Illy is capable of some really good dps and has excellent crowd control should things go south, your reactive heals generate tons of hate so not sure who would do the most tanking but your in plate armor so you can take a pretty good pounding, plus the Illy buffs would help your damage output to boot.

You plan on pvp or pve?

The primary focus will be on PVE, although my wife and I have been known to PVP.

It all really boils down to how you set your character up. My wife and I started out playing Zerk/Temp, Then Zerk/Ranger, Then Dirge/ Temp and now Dirge/Assy. Oh... and Wizard/Wiazrd lol. What I have found everytime is that you just have to figure out what your duo lacks and try to spec out the weaknesses the best you can through AA's and attributes.

I don't see any reason your duo wouldn't work, although it might be more challenging that some standard combos like Zerker/Fury.

You can really duo with any two classes, but it really boils down to the player. In a duo setting, your templar might have trouble contributing DPS, (but shouldn't be too much of a problem paired with a Mage) but you can bring a sense of stability with healing capabilities and, with a reactive, you could probably tank what the two of you are fighting.

As ppl have said You can duo with any two classes. But since Clerics heals mainly depends on that the tank is getting hit, Clerics really shines with Pate tanks. And we have a harder time to heal avoid tanks even if you can, and to heal cloth tanks (mages) is really an unfun thin imop.

And forget about that you shall tank as a Templar. We have nothing that can keep aggro from any dps class. I feel it would be fun if we had taunts though...but then poor Pallys.

If you shall have a Caster healer duo I think Shamans and druids are better. If you have a scout/tank healer duo I say any healer class is fine. If you have a Plate tank Healer duo Clerics the way to go.

Best of luck!/Hugs Tash
