I posted this here as well hoping to get answers in time so I can do betrayal at the right time if I need to. I am currently a coercerI just came back after a long hiatus and decided I really liked what I have read and how this class is playing right now. It's a lot of fun, and I have always enjoyed casters. I was curious as the main differences between these two classes in PvP as I made my character on Nagafen. I am not interested in the most powerful class, but I am trying to decided which one I would enjoy more. What are the primary differences between the two in PvE?How about PvP?What masters should I focus on getting first? If Illy what AA line should I follow? Is it really imperative for me to level lock for my AAs even though I want to experience this games high level content?Which class is wanted more for raiding because that's something I am interested in as well. Thanks!Sazhi - Nagafen

Coercers are more of melee (DPS)/tank buffers while illus are Melee (haste &DA) and mage buffers. both can give a healer a nice buff to, Both are mezzers, aswell as decent DPS (ofc, depending on player/gear/group etc) Coercers can charm a pet, illus clone themself. and there is alot of minor things to it aswell How about PvP?

Same i guess... adding Illus are good, coercers are evil. I play an illy alt on Nagafen. She's only 27 so far, so I can't really tell you about end game, appart from what I heard from elder illys, and pvp experience on my main, but still...iamwhir wrote:
I posted this here as well hoping to get answers in time so I can do betrayal at the right time if I need to. I am currently a coercerI just came back after a long hiatus and decided I really liked what I have read and how this class is playing right now. It's a lot of fun, and I have always enjoyed casters. I was curious as the main differences between these two classes in PvP as I made my character on Nagafen. I am not interested in the most powerful class, but I am trying to decided which one I would enjoy more. What are the primary differences between the two in PvE?-How about PvP?>> Boths are CC based of course. At solo pvp Illy kills with dots, and little "nukes" from him and his pet. Coercer kills mainly with reactives. That's the main difference, and it's major: to actually inflict massive damage on a coercer, you need the ennemy to do something to trigger your reactives (heal, melee you, cast spells on you...). As a coercer if you got jumped and got your mez off at 10% HP you are in trouble, while you may still stand a chance as an illy, since it's all about not getting hit. I hear spellshield is invaluable too at end game.Anyway keep in mind that as a chanter you are the squishiest of the squishiest, you have no way to escape the ennemy (no uber run speed, track or evac, not many HPs or plate armor, no manashield...), so if you get ambushed by overwhelming numbers you will die. Both classes also require to pay attention constantly and have fast reaction time. If you get jumped by a rogue/predator class unexpectadly you will probably die.So chanters can get very frustrating at times, on the other hand the fun factor is really high too. If you see a solo/duo coming and can stick your CCs then there are good chances the ennemy will be helpless. On illy once you learn to time your stuns/stiffles you can really get ppl killed before they get anything off, which is very satisfying. In group pvp you will be on high demanded since you bring a lot, nice bufs, CCs, and decent dps. Mez is deadly when used efficiently and your group is not messing up. Because of that (and remember you are squishy), you will nearly always be the first priority target (unless your opponents are noobs), so your survivability will depend a lot on the quality of your tanks/healers.What masters should I focus on getting first?>> For pvp, mez should be your first priority, since a resisted mez often means death, and resists are a major issue for casters at pvp. Then probably beam (your only "nuke&quot, your others CCs (stun/stiffle/daze), and your dots. Also make sure you have your pet at least adept3 as an illy since it's a significant part of your damage. So basically you need everything If Illy what AA line should I follow?>> Agi first for perpetuality, then probably int for the extra DPS. Then it's open... Can go str for the "melee spec", or sta for better group support, or wis for decreased resists... You probably want to catch the beam reuse timer speedup in EOF tree rather early too.Is it really imperative for me to level lock for my AAs even though I want to experience this games high level content?>> If you want to compete at lower tiers, definitely yes. There is a lot of valuable stuff to get from illy AA trees, so you will seriously [Removed for Content] yourself at pvp if you don't lock at low tiers. If you only care about end game, just level normally, you will still get a decent amount of AAs when you hit tier 8, and it will be easy to close the AA gap once you are 80.Which class is wanted more for raiding because that's something I am interested in as well.>> Does not really matter, since both are faction aligned classes. Qeynos only has access to illy, and freeport to coercer. So both are on high demand. Raid forces are always lacking support classes like chanters and bards, since ppl tend to roll more easy mode/solo efficient classes on pvp servers, like rogues, predators, or druids. So regardless of your choice, as a chanter, you will get raid invites Thanks!>> GreetingsSazhi - Nagafen
