I am starting college in fall and decided it would probably be a good idea to buy a laptop. I used to play this game and loved it but my computer couldnt handle the DoF expansion so i had to play WoW instead. I was wondering if you guys could help me pick out a laptop. The most i will be able to pay is $800.

Also, is it possible for me to recover my account if i dont know my handle/password? I know my characters name, server, and have my cd key still

Well i'm buying the laptop primarily for college so i can take it to class and so i can use the internet at my school so i dont have to buy it in my apartment so a desktop wont really work. But I have to afford books, rent, and tuition, so the most i am able to spend is $800. I don't need anything to run this game on the extreme settings, and i dont need a cutting edge pc. Just something that can possibly run it on balanced without lagging to much.

Eh well i think anything over 800 is rediculous to play a game. This game came out what four years ago? I know people were playing it without any problems back then. I also know that a 800 dollar computer now adays is most likely better then a high end computer back then. If thats the case then i guess i wont be coming back

The problem is not EQ or Sony. It's that fact that laptop companies put crap graphics chips on inexpensive laptops. While it's true that computers, and laptops, have gotten faster, it's not so true that laptops have improved as much in the graphics department.Laptops are built for the masses and the masses care about surfing the net, word processing and battery life. Most laptop uses do not need a fancy 3D card, tons of memory or fast hard drive access. All of these things suck your battery dry and as such laptops are built to sip power by running the CPU slow, the graphics slower, your hard drive slow... see the trend?Yes there are "specialty" laptops that are built for games but these are not mainstream items and you pay a premium for these. The fact that cheap laptops can even play EQ2 at all is a plus. Anyone care to tell how EQ2 ran on an "average" laptop years ago?You can get a cheap laptop to play EQ2 but you cannot get a "cheap" laptop to play EQ2 well.Sorry but as much as I love to slam Sony I have to stick up for them this time. WoW uses 10+ year old graphics tech. This was done because Blizzard wanted the entire world to be able to play WoW on out of date computers to maximize their profit. This was a design choice they made and does not reflect on EQ2 aside from saying that WoW and EQ2 came out at the same time and WoW was out of date (graphically) the day it came out. If they upgraded the graphics to even 2005 tech they would lose half their subscribers because they could not play that game on the old old old hardware they own.So if you want suggestions on a cheap laptop I can say two things...1. Get at least 1gig of memory (2gig if you want Vista)2. Get a laptop that does not have Intel graphics. Look for a newer Nvidia or ATI such as the 8600, 9600 or better. Bonus: Since EQ2 does not use multicore you want the fastest MHZ you can get.... IE (for EQ2) a 2500mhz single core CPU will run the game better than a quad core 2000mhz CPUHave something in mind... post the model and we'll be happy to help.-JB

That laptop will run EQ2 if you include the Radeon video card upgrade. It is well worth the $75 upgrade price. You will forever regret it if you don't upgrade the video card. If you don't get the upgraded video card, you will not be able to play EQ2.

If you can spare the cash, go ahead and get the memory upgraded to 4GB. Its a good investment for the future at only $100.
