View Full Version : Updated Bow Chart

Before I start, I want to give credit to Webin (Who originally created the chart) and to Effidian (who made some of the formulas).

I decided to update the bow list since many rangers wanted to know which bows are better than others. With arrow mechanics fixed (GU44), I've decided to use the DMP (Damage per minute) as the basis of the order. Since Auto-attack plays a huge role in our dps, the DMP would be a perfect guide to use. Now, there are other "outside" factors that play an important role (Ex: DD procs, +DPS, pet procs, etc...), but keep in mind that 1) any bow can be adorned with a proc 2) most rangers can reach the DPS ceiling within a raid setting. With that said, the DPM value should be a good guideline for us to use.

http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?...PkXYJYzWQ&hl=en

*Added Hailstorm and Vexthorne to the list.

*Added Di'Zok Bow of Flame.

*Added Looted Halfling Bow.

*Small correction on Hailstorm Bow.

*Added a better pic. <img src="/eq2/images/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY<img src=" width="15" height="15" />

*Corrected Di'Zok Bow Flame.

*Added Scale Breach Bow.

*Added much better pic. <img src="/eq2/images/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY<img src=" width="15" height="15" />

*Added google excel link for everyone to view.

*Added Klunky Shortbow.

*Added calculations for bow chart

** Rating - The Damage Ratio listed on in-game links. This is the value many rangers use to decide which bow to equip, but is a poor indicator of actual bow damage. Calculation: (Min+Max)/Delay** Avg - Average Non-Critical Damage per Hit. Calculation: (Min+Max)/2** CritBonus100 - Damage Modifier if 100% of hits were Critical. For example, a value of 1.67 indicates that if 100% of your hits were Critical, your auto-attack would do 67% more damage (average over many attacks) than if none of your hits were Critical. This formula is lifted directly from Leanan's Critical Damage post (an excellent read) found here: http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=353709. I won't explain the specifics of this calculation here because Leanan goes into perfect detail in his post. Calculation: ((((Max/1.3)-Min)/(Max-Min))*(Max)+(1-(((Max/1.3)-Min)/(Max-Min)))*(1.15*Max))/((Max+Min)/2)** CritBonus50 - Damage Modifier if 50% of hits were Critical. This means that, on average, half of all auto attacks will do critical damage. If 100% Critical hits add 67% to your total auto-attack damage, 50% crits will add half that, or 33.5% to your non-critical auto-attack damage. This is also part of Leanan's work. I based my bow comparison numbers on a Ranged Crit of 50% because it's a middle-of-the-road value, and happened to be the average ranged crit % value I achieved in one run of Crypt of Agony (when I didn't use Focus Aim as often I could have). If the ranged crit were changed to 25% or 75%, bows with large damage spreads would see differences in their ranks, but it usually only moved them up or down a few spots in the list. Calculation: (CritBonus100-1)*0.5+1** W/Crits - Average Damage per hit, accounting for 50% Critical Hits. The Damage Modifier applied to the Average Damage. Calculation: Avg*CritBonus50** APM - Attacks per Minute. Based on bow Delay, how many hits occur in one minute. This entire process assumes 100% of auto attacks hit, which is almost never true, but accounting for a lower hit percentage would lower all numbers proportionately, so hit percentage does not need to be accounted for. This equation is directly from Effidian's work. Calculation: 60/Delay** DPM - Damage per Minute. Also from Effidian's work. If each hit does the damage listed in w/Crits, and hits occur at the rate listed in APM, this is how much damage will be done per minute. This would be the final number needed for bow comparisons if it weren't for the "broken" arrow mechanics. Calculation: w/Cirts*APM

Assuming Star hasn't tweaked the formulas, Di'Zok comes in 23rd on the list. You'd be better off with Flimflam, Aquatic Bow of Obedience, Snaggletooth, and Bow of Eternal Hunger..... oh, and the Eagle's Talon epic.

Di'Zok Bow Flame is not a great bow when it comes to auto attack. Therefore, it drops on the chart. However, the bow does have a nice proc, so keep that in mind.

Not sure if it matters - but I think that the Di'Zok has a 7 sec delay now.

I made the correction to Di'Zok bow (delay and min-max damges) and it moved up a couple slots.

Hailstorm bow dropped to #3. Vol'Drath is slightly better auto attack wise, but Hailstorm is better bow overall due to pet proc (which I cannot parse anyway).

I love the particle effect on the Di'zok bow when the flame strike procs. Need more stuff that way.
Where can I get the actual spreadsheet?

Any chance this spreadsheet can be published on google documents? That way it can be viewable to the public, and then you can set up the sharing so that you can assign (if you wish that is) others as collaberators so they too can edit/update the document. But not leave it editable (just viewable) to the public...don't want anybody muckin up the works.Additionally it'll allow you to be able to update it on the fly while in-game via the /browser whenever you happen to note something new or needs to be changed. It would also be nice for players in game to view it via /browser whenever they happen across a new bow in their adventuring and want to be able to compare it with others.

I wrote a program a while ago to simulate the actual damage rolls for a bow that would let you change crit/da etc. and then run through as many simulated damage rolls as you wanted (think it defaulted to rolling 25 million times). The good thing about it was that you could add your own bows to the .INI file so it meant I didn't have to It was hoted on our old guild portal site but it's not there any more. If anyone wants a copy or can host it, just send me a PM.

For those wondering about the program I got your emails, but have been a bit tied up with work. Will try to send something out this weekend. Just got to tidy up the export feature so you can generate a .CSV file of the attacks for use in Excel etc.

BTW, I've run some tests for all the bows and I'm pretty sure that Hailstorm should be a 1.77 crit rather than 1.67 as shown on the spreadsheet

I don't think the author will update the list from what I hear.

I'll be more than happy and update the list since it is located on google docs.

If everyone can post TSO bows here, I'll update the list.

Also, I'll ask a Mod/Admin for edit rights if possible. If not, I'll just post the list as a reply.
