As of last night, I have been unable to play EQ2. I have never had any problems in the past. I came home from work last night, only to find that the game crashes on "Loading Entity Resources"

Sometimes I am able to make it has far into the game as seeing my character on the screen, but it immediately crashes again. I logged into my account from another computer, and it work fine. This means that there is something wrong with my computer.

After trying several troubleshooting ideas, I went ahead and wiped my hard drive and loaded EQ2 from scratch.

1) Completely wiped hard drive and loaded the computer with Windows XP SP22) Loaded all of my drivers and verified that they are working correctly.3) Downloaded and install the EQ2 basic program from the website.4) Allowed the patcher to run over night and downloaded all of the EQ2 files again5) Tried to log in this morning only to crash at Loading Entity Resources, no matter what charcter I tried to play.

When I get home tonight after work, I plan to put my computer in the DMZ, reboot my router, remove and reseat my graphics card and RAM. If this does not work, I am convinced that there was something pushed out that is the cause of this problem.

Computer Specs:AMD AthlonTM 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+, 2 gigs of ramNvidia 7900GS

Last but not least, just wanted to add that when the game starts to load, it crashes on "Loading Entity Resources" 9 times out of 10. I get no error message, nor is there any event created in my event logs. I have nothing loading on my system but the Windows XP SP2 and drivers. I have no custom UI loaded, no map programs nor anything else but the basic EQ2 files downloaded through the patcher.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Greetings,

I'd like to make sure that this isn't an account based issue. If you could PM me your station name I can investigate that for you before we start changing your computer settings.

What router and modem are you using at home?

Ares The Dark
06-24-2008, 06:43 PM

Linksys cable modem and router.

I do not think this has anything to do with it. The game has been running fine for 2 years+, then all of the sudden it stops working. I understand the concept of opening up ports on the firewall quite well, however even when I placed my computer in the DMZ, I have the same issue.

Ruhl, what area do you live in and what ISP do you use? I have a similar issue and I am thinking it may be ISP/geographic.Does your friend use a different ISP?I live in California and use AT&T DSL.

Reseated my graphics card, and RAM. Restarted my cable modem and router. Here is what happened.

1. The game booted up fine, loaded all of the entity resources, I actually got logged in and saw my character. 2 seconds later the screen froze and I was booted to windows desktop - no error message.

2. Tried to log in again, the game frooze at 36% on loading entity resources and booted me to the windows desktop - again, no error message.

Any suggestions?

After much research and trouble shooting, I am convinced that this issue is not related to to my computer, router, modem, dog, house, mouse, etc.

This problem is on Sony's side.

I loaded up BOOTCAMP on my apple, loaded Windows XP, and loaded EQ2 from scratch. Guess what? Crashes at same place.

There seems to be a bug on SOE's side and has nothing to do with your computer.

I will be on the phone with SOE bright and early in the morning.

I and thousands of others can log in fine. There is probably some minor issue blocking you from connecting properly. Like the guy that uninstalled his NFroceware stuff and poof it worked. There isn't a way for SOE to know this intuitively.I wish ya the best in getting back in though and finding that one thing on your end.

Hey all,

I also had this exact same problem and couldn't figure out what the heck was causing it. Finally found that it was a bad default gateway (I use Comcast), so I forced Comcast to give me a new gateway and voila, the problem was gone. I don't know why a specific address would cause this issue, but it seems to be so.

Draelyn

I have been mailing this issue to my supervisor who takes it into meetings with developers on current issues for all games. So this issue is being pushed forward, and I would love to have this issue resolved for you all. On a side note I have also been forwarding the information on the stickied posts for DirectX errors and out of memory. I wish I could duplicate the issue on my side bot hehre and home, but I have not been able too.has anybody else had success with removing the nForce network software or by using the following commands?
hit start, then run and then type cmdat the dos prompt type "regsur32 softpub.dll" (no quotes)

Every day someone else posts with the issue of having this problem. Either this, or boot to character select immediately after logging in, Crash to desktop with no error message after loading.

It seems that ip switches, and gateway changes eliviate the problem for alot of folks, but there's alot who still have the issue.

I would imagine Trevor, Daniel and the rest of the TSR team is probably getting super frustrated with it, because it cannot be duplicated at their end. If anything its proven to me over the past two weeks how inadequate Charter communications is at doing ANYTHING for their customers.

I hope they can fix it soon, cause at the end of July when my free time is up, I hope to actually be able to truly play and start paying, as it stands I'm not going to pay for a game I cannot fully play.

P.S. @ Trevor, get the tech team to run some tests using the Netgear CG814wg v2. This little bugger seems to be causing alot of issues for gamers. It would be good to know you guys could post a warning about it.

Thing is a piece of a crap as far as I am concerned, I've had nothing but problems associated with it.I mentioned earlier that Vanguard works for me, I just tried LoN and it also connects fine for me too (though I have a bug of a different nature there that doesn't prevent me from using the game).

I too am suffering the same problem, on all three of the computers, and the laptop, while trying to connect at home. The strange thing, is that the laptop connects from my work IP, but will not get past the "loading entity" while connecting at home, which makes me think it's a router/modem issue. Now, my wife and I haven't played EQ2 since before the latest release of additional content, but othr than the patching process, nothing at all has changed in any of our rigs. I'll wait it out until Sony can catch up, and patch the patch

Well, I'm not using a router at all, just connecting directly through a hub and my DSL modem. However, I am also connecting from Canada through Telus... hopefully that isn't the common denominator heh. Oddly enough, I started testing all my toons and was actually able to login to 2 of them... one lasted long enough for me to zone from NQ to Willow Wood before the game "poofed", the other just loaded into game in NQ long enough for me to see her and then the game froze/poofed. Sigh. Gonna wait until tomorrow to try again, as the TSRs were going to try to do something to my account to see if it fixes it.

My only problem with this being a router/connection issue on our ends is that TOO many people are having the issue from TOO many different connection/router/modem/ everything else we are using to connect.

I've noticed that I can log in to the game fine, and to the message boards. Logging in to the support site I get an invalid password message and have to sort of go around it. Not sure if it's related to the login rejected while zoning but seems an odd coincidence.

The game and station.com do use the same password, but the issues affecting game accounts do not affect station.com logins. I have double checked your account and the front end is still open.It can be resolved by deleting cache and temp internet files, and the closing and reopening the browser. Sometimes it asks for an email and password, which can be resolved the same way as well.

I had this problem recently and the cause was a windows update.

I'd been playing with no problems at all and one morning decided to check my windows updates. I installed an optional update to my wireless connection. then logged into the game. I played for a few minutes then tried to zone and the computer froze. Every time I tried to log into the game after that it froze at the 'loading ui resources' screen. It froze the whole computer, not just the game. Luckily I had a restore point from before the update, restored the computer and no more problems.

This is the update I installed (and then removed):

Realtek - Network - Realtek RTL8168B/8111B Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0)

Update type: Optional

Realtek Network software update released in May, 2008

The date on the update is May 25. I purchased my computer at the end of May so I'm not sure if that's the date microsoft released the update or the date windows was installed on my computer by the store. I'm using Vista 64, hope this helps at least some people.

Hello Everyone, I am new to forums so please be gentle with me.

Looking at the dates on these posts I see that this was a major issue a few years ago and that it never got solved for some people. So I will post this in the hope that there is/was a fix that I dont know about.

I am playing in UK connected via BT home hub using a DFI lan party based system with a 1 gig cpu oc/ 1.4Ghz and 2 gb physical ram. Radeon HD 1024 mb Graphics Win 7 RC1

I have been playing EQ2 for about three months and the zone issue is an ongoing one for me also. I note from other people who have posted here that I have done the same things to try try to fix the issues and I am inclined to agree that this is not an issue with my pc/os or the amount of memory I have.

This crash takes alsmost the exact form as other people have posted: game gets as far as ""waiting for entities"" at the load screen and will not go any further-although it is now getting beyond that point to "" loading UI resources."" If I delete cache and log files and do a full scan I can SOMETIMES rescue a toon from limbo but this issue has severe implcations for actually plyaing the game. Due to its sheer intermittent nature, one is never sure when it will happen again. I lost three toons in about an hour a week ago.

Getting into guild halls is also a nighmare at times which prevents buying and selling equipment on the guild broker very difficult so getting enough cion to keep upgrading gear is becmming a big problem now.

One answer I have had is that my PC does not have enough memory to load all the stuff there but then if that was to case, would this not stop me getting in there EVERY time i tried?

It almost always happens when I agree to mentor or group with someone as well. It would also appear that other folks here are getting stuck at Thundering Steppes as well. I have been able to actually re-produce this crash twice in one day on the same toon but TS has always been a "Crashzone" for me since I started playing. Maj Dul is another no-no in terms of no zone areas for my toons and the Peat Bog in Netttleville almost always crashes in one way or another so I dont go there any more. Troughout all these crashes the client is still running. I can alt enter out of full screen, browse and use other applications with no problems at all. Having looked at the memory usage in task manager, physical ram usage for EQ2 cleint os oly at 60 ish per cent. I am not receiving any error messages from windows or EQ2 client when it happens. The game just sits there at the load screen and used to kick me back to toon select but this does not happpen any more-it just stoops loading until I shut down the client and re-log.

I too had an issue at log in-the logging in scroll would just go around endlessly until i click stop and then tried again. When I did that, I would get in in aseconds. After a NIGHMARE [Removed for Content] SL that issue at least seems to befixed the only way to do it was re download and install station launcher

If there are any SOE tech reps still viewing this forum I would be very interested to hear your opinions on this one. I know I have tried EVERYTHING from my side including using a different router that I borrowed from a friend to see if that would fix the issue with no success.

Thanks folks, hope we can find the answer to this one.
