Hello !

Ive suddenly noticed that my game starts to totally freeze when im somtimes casting my Groupward ( mystic ).It only happened ones in a while before....maybe a few month intervals...but now it has happened 3 times during 2 days .Two times inside Veeshans Peak and last night ones inside Runnyeye the Gathering.

Im not having any lag at all..grafix are not on high at all...its only the game that freeze...not ventrilo or the PC.Im trying to run as few things that I can while playing btw.

This is really annoying not just for me, but it hold everyone around me on hold aswell if in a raid.As I said...its only happened when casting groupward...not sure what is happening ingame when that spell goes off..but itssomthing that my PC suddenly dont like.

The only thing that I can think of that might cause the problem is maybe the powersupply....i had a 520w before..and the fan broke in it...so went and bought a new one that was 420w.Ive checked Asus Probe but got no temp. problems. To start with..im really bad on computors..so wouldnt understand all the numbers and stuff that ppl talk about..giggle.So keep it simple

Thankyou in advance.

While not happening to me.... 2 shaman in my /gu have this similar problem. One is worse than the other (crashes more often) but its 99.9% of the time a grp ward that made it happen (defiler is one who crashes more). So yeah, I'm starting to see a pattern. I have no idea what would cause it but I do know of 2 others this happens to.

Greetings,

Do you have a lot of items that proc shelter/overloaded heal? I'm wondering if it might be caused by those items proccing really fast. Have you checked your logs to see what is happening immediately before a crash to see if there's a common cause? Also, what settings are you using when this happens? You may want to try setting down your particle effects and max spell effects per character to see if that corrects the problem.

My settings are below medium when I raid.Im using around 3 overloaded heal items.

Ive have no tried to remove one of the items i had that game more heal to the ward.Arm of ErolisiBangle of polished marble

Was thinking maybe if they both proced at the same time it would bug the game.ANyway...there are more shamans on this problem and they are posting on Mystic Forum.

Wow, I thought maybe I was going crazy. My Mystic has the same problem. I looked at the logs, and at the time of the crash, I had just finished casting my group ward and all 3 OLH items procced -- cloak of traitor's grace, yha-lei bone hoop, and battleshaman chainmail legguards. I also have the jarsath cuirass, which procs shelter, but it didn't go off. I run raids with complex shaders at -1 and number of spell effects at 0, so these settings shouldn't be an issue. Char name is Romans and time of crash was 6/23/08 at 12:12:34AM EST in Kor-sha, if the server logs provide any additional insight. hey

This happened to me before RoK, but it's become more common of late. Same thing, just as Group Ward finishes casting, hard lock. If I happen to have task manager open on my second monitor, I can alt tab to it and end the Everquest2.exe process. Otherwise I have to reboot.Usually happens once or twice a night in a group or raid. The Defiler in our guild has the same issues.I can't buy the whole Overloaded Heal idea. Clerics and Druids use Overloaded Heal as well, and they don't have these lockups. Overloaded Heal procs off Group direct heals as well, but I never lock up when casting one of those. It's ONLY the Group WARD.

2 out of 3 shammies in our raids have this problem. It appears to be dependent how long we have been on line and how much we have been healing. We now do a 'Shammie Reboot' every 1 1/2 hours of raiding and this eliminates the problem however this is not a solution - some fights still take us 30 mins and MT shammy LD tends to mean 24 very unhappy people. This happens to me on 2 different computers - neither are v high spec but both have > 2GBs - i'll check process manager tonight to see if it is running oom

Not sure if it is linked to Group Wards or it just happens that we are casting them a lot of the time

Your best bet on an in game issue like this, is to /bug it after it happens or when you get back on online. It is really interesting though, and I wonder which other items, or combination of items, proc'ing off your heals would cause this issue.

I am surprised to see this thread. All this time I thought it was just Vista 64 Home. I will be healing on a raid with my defiler and all of a sudden my screen just freezes. Ventrilo is just fine, everything else will open just fine.

Every time I have to end task on everquest.exe and load it back up quickly to see if I can get back into the raid so we don't wipe. This has really only happened to me on raids since I switched mains to my defiler. I would have the intermittent crash to desktop or memory error before while on my necro but usually once a night, if not more, I will have this same issue while I am healing in MT group.

I haven't looked at any logs to see what was being casted but I have, usually, 1-3 OH items plus 1-3 manawell/soulsiphon/etc procs on me. I use profit UI and it will happen whether I am playing in Raid or Quality mode in SLI or single GPU. This has also happened using the default UI.

Windows Vista reports it as an AppHang. When I get home I will edit this post with the exact information that Vista is spitting out.

It just happened again...just as groupward was about to land as usuall.

No lag what so ever... only wearing 1 overloaded heal item.It happened on a raid on Druushk.

THis is seriously annoying.

lets all /bug it then as well? Surely that's the point of this post? Can you confirm that you have started looking into this?

I can raid any other toon on either account all night with no crashes - typically dirge

I can play mystic all night in group instances with all/any raid gear on and wouldn't expect to crash - but might.... RE2 is normally run with 6-7 o/loaded heal items and cloads of heal procs (dirt eating choker wearers ftl) with no worries

I raid mystic on either of my lowish-spec PCs both running VH or Extreme standard performance and will expect to freeze after about 2 hours - ventrillo will be fine. Typically need to reboot the PC after 90 mins to avoid a crash - just re-logging won't help - i do minimise the game sometimes in-case that helps release resources

This has been happening throughout RoK

I crash regardless of raid zone

I thought i was having comp problems. I just happen be stoping by the forums and saw this and now i see its a problem. I only have the problems in RE2 atm since im not in a raiding guild. Ill have to check later as to how many proc items i have, but im in accord with everyone else the ammount shouldnt matter due to other priests having these items also and only the shamans are effected. What im thinking is it's either every person that plays a shaman has a bad computer and all other priest class have awesome computers or there is a coding issue with the wards. Now is it a combo with ward and procs or a combo of ward procs in a chain heal process im not sure. One thing I would like to know is if those of use that are experiening this are wearing a weapon I got just before RE2 came out. Its the 1-Handed quest reward mace from Maidens for healers. This item has a proc that decreases casting times of spells by 10%. Prior to this weapon and RE2 coming out i had no problems with freezing. I can play my other account with my SK, while running the account the Defiler is on, all the way through RE2 with no problems. Both accounts have the same exact settings. Everytime i venture into RE2 i will have 1 crash on my defiler account.

As a wild guess here, what types of sound cards are you all using? Maybe try dropping the sound acceleration in DXDIAG to none.

I just want to mention that I do not have any evidence that it's caused by proccing items. That was just an idea I had based on the fact that it happens on group spells and I've seen the rediculous amount of proccing that can occur there. I'd certainly like to hear if anyone has noticed a change when raiding/grouping without those items equipped, but at the moment I'm still not sure what's causing this.

TO the sound card idea i can 100% say its not that. In my previous post i stated that the account witht eh SK on it can run through this zone without a hitch. That account is ran on the same comp while my defilers account is running on the same comp at the same time. So overload issues, sound card issues do not seem to be the problem. I have to see if it occurs the other way around or not. Ill try it with only one account running through RE2(the defiler one) and then try the defiler account running through RE2 with the SK account running in the background. Sorry, im not very versed in the log the game keeps so im just trying to relay what I see through experience.

**EDIT**

I just remembered that when one of the account freezes happened i had both accounts running. The defiler was in RE2 and my SK was just sitting off in EL. SK wasnt doing anything but what was really important to me to report was that even though the Defiler account froze my SK account was running just fine. I swaped right over to it and everything was smooth.

Both myself (Defiler) and the Mystic in our guild also have this same problem. She makes sure she reboots just before the raid starts and it seems to have helped her, but I usually freeze up at least once usually toward the end of the raid. (and usually at the worst possible time).

EDIT:

I never noticed this being caused by casting Group ward but I will watch for that now.

Any chance you could actually start looking at it? Was on 12% on Nexona when I crashed as MT shammie and only 2 heals ... 24 v [Removed for Content] of customers

If i look at system resources eq2 uses about 150mb when i log in - this grows to 600mb over 40-50 mins - if i minimise/maximise the game it resets at 150mb - is this supposed to happen or is this a memory leak? I raided for 2 hrs with no crashes once i started minimising the game periodically.

I have also had this problem on my Defiler alt that I play sometimes when a healer is needed in a group or raid.It -only- occurs when casting my group ward. and the game just hard locks just towards the end of the cast.

Thought it was just me till i was skimming through this forum and found this thread.Rather interesting to see the exact same thing happens to others.

This has been happening to me for nearly 2 years now on 2 totally different machines. My desktop with XP Pro and my notebook with Vista. It's just a part of raiding to me now, lol. As soon as I crash, I end the EQ2 process in Task Manager. Then I open EQ2 bypassing the patcher. I can usually get back in before any catastrophic happens. This also happens to EVERY shaman in my raid force.

Just to add to the info base, I have had this issue over the past two days, with my Ranger. I'm working lots of CAs, so I'll try to pay attention to which one does it, but it only happens in combat. I get no other lag or freezing and I have not for some time.

This is a very isolated for me as it's not Carrion Warding that I recieve the crash from... Ancient Shroud will do it in both CoA and Protector's Realm... Funny since it's just the group/raid instance of this zone. However; that's the only place I have ever crashed while warding. Has not happened recently, but I also don't go there as often anymore.
