<span class="postbody">When i have EAX4 enabled in sound options the sound becomes very distorted and muffled often.most likely this happens underwater, where i can hear mostly only some crackles.when i switch to miles 2d or dolby surround it is OK.hardware:intel core 2 duo 2.66ghz4GB ramSB X-FI extreme gamergeforce 8800GTXI know this is a old issue are there any solutions for it? My drivers are up to date.</span>

One thing you failure to include with your system specs is OS. If Vista a bit of fiddling needs to be done to get rid of (or at least reduce) distortion and "crackles". Also, Creative's Vista drivers aren't as solid as their XP brethren. If you've an older driver it's time to upgrade.The X-fi has had issues with 4gb or more of physical memory. This is somewhat motherboard chipset related so might not add to your woes. In my particular case a mobo BIOS update addressed this problem.Oh yeah, Vista, you might well need to modify Alchemy's default EQ2 settings.-Roybob
