View Full Version : Clear Ups
Hey everyone. I am just wanting to clear up a few things. I played EQ2 for about 2 months and it was just really confusing to me.. Like leveling. Instancing or Questing? And in PvP I ALWAYS seem to lose lol.. No matter what I do. I lose. I dunno if it was because I am a Warden? I'm wondering if I come back and I start as a Brigand. Would it be better? Or if I leveled my 14 Necromancer. Are they good? Any advice as to what class to pick for an amateur EQ2 player? Something easy but also good and needed for things? And could someone please explain how PvP works. It's sooo much different than WoW's to me it's ridiculous lol.. but I wanna get to know it cause I like the game. Any help would be nice or constructive criticism. Thanks a lot!

The AA assignments you choose also have a large bearing during your fights. The remaining 10% is talent and knowledge of your class' abilities. And, those that excel at PvP, regardless of their class, also know their enemy's strengths and weaknesses to give them an additional edge over their opponents.Granted some classes are "easier" to play than others. But, that is going to lead to button mashing and that will do you little good when you start hitting the T5 & T6 tiers where countering attacks and debuffs is extremely important. So, to address your concern. Just play the class that you enjoy the most and learn it well. Ask questions about which AA trees to follow, the best type of gear to upgrade, etc. in your chosen class' forum.Whatever you do though.. ignore the "Play this class its overpowered and owns everyone right now" advice. Such advice usually just originates from people who haven't learned how to beat one class or another and feel that PvP should be all about game mechanics and no talent should be required.

On a PvP server though, this is only true if you do not expect much in the way of PvP hindrance. If you think you have some time to quest when there arn't many of the opposing factions around (which is rare on Nagafen, common on Vox), then pump out as many quests as you can to maximise yourxp gained/time spent.

If you think you are going to get too many people bothering you, and there is an appropriate leveled instance for you to run, run it.

My first advice for an amateur EQ2 player is - don't roll on a PvP server.

Don't delete what you have, just make a character on one of the PvE servers. This allows you to get more of a feel for the game, the zones, the gameplay, etc. without the ever present fear of ganking.

Once you get more comfortable with the game, by all means, go back to PvP. But trying to learn everything as a new player, and doing it in a PvP environment, is an extremely steep hill to climb.

Alrighty. Thanks a lot for the advice =D

PibiaN wrote:
Alrighty. Thanks a lot for the advice =D
And hey, if you rolled on nagafen, feel free to shoot me a tell if you have questions ingame.

Let me give a little advice on PvP. Please leave all concepts of fairness at the door. The easiest way to beat someone is playing a class that does lots of damage in relatively few strikes. When such a class is found, level in the shadows and hunt in the light. Look for solos. Don't let people see you before you are seen. If it's FFA PvP with no level restriction, the higher level you are compared to the target, the better the outcome. If a level range makes things more fair, then take the fairness out.

Be comfortable with the word 'Gank'. Look for people fighting mobs and get some shots on them while they are busy. Ranger's are good for the, "[Removed for Content], was that a group mob I just pulled?!?" effect. By the time they come back, be gone. Wait, and then see how many time they stick around or continue to engage in PvE activities while a Ranger lobs arrows into the mix. Be proactive... preemptive.

With a bit more cahones someone can take advantage of low health and power. This take a little bit more skill and is only recommended for those who can at least 'hold their own'. PvP is like fishing. With patience. Many can die on the hook and end up on my plate.

Killing is only half the job in a PvP environment. Talking takes up the rest and clarifying how bad the target sucks because they should have done or played 'whatever'. There doesn't have to be a point and I find the more obsurd your statements are, the more frustrated the situation becomes. There are actually a lot of people who think MMO PvP requires more than what in reality it takes. Gear, level and friends always gives advantage.

Don't worry about anything like points/kill death ratio/infamy or any other kind of 'scoring' mechanism in these games. It's artificial. The only thing REAL is people emotions and the 'trash talk' that goes on. I'm sad when this is taken out of a game so I like FFA. Some people are too fragile/serious and sometimes new PvP meat hasn't been around the block and is still sensitive. Talk like you've done hard time upstate and suffer from some sort of mental disorder and winning or loosing won't be such a concernas fun.

Thing that usually set people off:

- Talking about their mother's

- Saying WoW is better than <insert game> for PvP

- Slam a whole guild

- Slam a country or the poor

- Ask them if they were AFK when you killed them, what class they are and are glad you didn't roll one or If they were AFK then accuse them of exploits.

- Give them a tell like you are a plat seller providing service to teach people how to play their class.

- Names like Myswoleon, Sneakerdeathshoes or Chuck Norris gets a lot of people riled up.

Be clever in PvP and everyone has more fun. Macro "Nono fight... just EXP!" and use that while you are killing someone. The funniest time I had was in EQ when you could charm. I'd Illusion my DE and join a group then sometime while we found I'd charm on and sick them on one of the other light skins. I would be the loudest with,"Why are you fighting... we are on the same team.. and other nonsense." I can't remember ever being found out but it was probably the most enjoyable PvP next to what's going on in AoC. I'm really looking for The Agency to be a good PvP game. Who knows...
