I've read a few posts about their differences, but no one seems to sum it up... and there are always conflicting arguments. So can anyone clear me up on this and tell me the differences between an Assassin and a Brigand?

As an assn I can tell you that we're built for pure DPS...While my understanding of brigs is kinda like utility/DPS....Utility being the ability to debuff. But the classes play differently. However, assns play stlye is like being a swashy.

Assassin is the top1 group/ raid DPS class in most none AoE DPS situation. Brigand is a Tier 2 DPS class with utility (we got the best mitigation debuff) wich lead to a huge melee DPS increase.

Si if an assassin is in your group and fighting the same mobs as you he should out dps you. But if he is meleeing on another mobs chance are that you will out DPS him. Also soloing you will simply out damage them for 2 reason. 1) we can stun-lock a mob for 10sec letting us use all of our side/rear attack, while the assassin doesn not have as much stun as us. So they can,t use all of their positioning CA's. 2) The mitigation debuff we got increase our DPS so much and the assassin won't have it while soloing.

if you like to group/ raid a lot and like to see big damage number roll an assassin.

If you like to solo a lot and prefer a lower damage but higher utility while grouping/ raiding. Roll a brigand.

If your a weird dude roll a swashy. (PvE wise I don't see why the heck anyone should roll one) They can debuff mobs DPS bether then brigand, They will out DPS brigand by a bit assuming they get their DPS buffed by us or if their is AoE content, but in a raid. You don't really care if no swashy log on. If no brigand join the raid, everyone is sad.

Good choice..

In our guild, DPS goes as is :

Assassin 8-10k

Swash 5-6k

Wizzy (depends on Manaburn) 4-7k

Brigs 4-6k

this is a very general picture,

but the solo ability of a brigand is higher than most classes in the game (besides necro, chanter, possibly brawler..)

as i see it,

Assassins are built for pure damage, thats it end of story.

Brigands can DPS extremely well if played correctly. (not as well as an assassin tho)

Brigands are basically a must have class for raiding, their debuff's increase your raid wide DPS by atleast 10%.

Brigands require the most attention when playing, you cannot just smash buttons on a raid and expect to live. Brigands aggro management is nothing compared to swashies and assassins, their debuffs and burst DPS really [Removed for Content] off mobs. Where as assassins can drop huge attacks on mobs and simply go un noticed.

Assassins are more dependant on groups then brigands. Brigands can easily solo even con ^^^'s if done correctly.

Assassins are an easier class to learn, and play. Brigands take more time and can be frustrating. I love my brigand, and will never get bored with him. But what is not fun about dropping 20k decap's on mobs as an assassin??

Both classes are extremely fun. and its hard to compare them because they are two totally different classes.

I'll disagree with the assassin being just as fun to play. Early on the assassin sure isn't fun at all. I find the play styles to be almost opposite. Assassin in a group is easy. Solo is hard. Brig is harder in a group and easier solo.
