I've been playing a lvl 22 coercer. My question is how do we handle 2 or more mobs at a time? Will I get better CC spells as she levels up? From what I can tell you can't charm a mob thats linked with others.

Just looking for some basic tips. I knew my coercer would take alot of deaths, but at least for me 2 mobs (blue - white) = a for sure death.

Thanks in advance.

Zabee

I am almost 100% positive that you can charm linked mobs. Also you can mez them. The spell that puts a rainbow colored ring around their head that makes them stand still for like 10 seconds. At 25 (I believe) you get an area version of that one. Then you can also root or stun them. Should be plenty of opportunities to control multiple mobs. What I do when I face a linked encounter with 2 mobs... charm one, let him beat the other. Help with nukes but only so much that one dies and your charmed pet only has minimal health left. Break charm, stun/root/nuke the remaining one.Hope that helped. Good luck!

You can charm a mob that is linked with others. At your current level I believe you don't have the AOE mez yet which will make taking down multiple mobs much easier. For now all I can suggest is you have some AA points in Resist Charm, and you have a very high ranked charm spell (adept 3 or even Master 1). This will greatly help with successfully charming one of the mobs to then help beat up the other mob. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the tips. My other questions is what to do if I'm fighting one mob and another agro's on me. Do I use my 20sec stun or send my pet to the new mob? I've just started in Nek forrest and find alot of agro mobs. Without any type of self heal, I can't seem to take out 1 mob, with an add. Oh and thats if my pet doesn't break charm. I have played alot of MMO's, and I'm starting to think its my play style that I need to rethink.

Thanks again.

Zabee

Mezz the add, finish the first mob, switch to the add. If the first mob takes longuer to kill, refresh your mezz as needed. You play one of the few class in game that can do that reliably. Mezz if much more reliable than root, as long as you do no damage to it.

Use your stun to control the target you are currently fighting. Either to reduce incoming damage to you (or your charmed pet) or to help your pet regain aggro. Stuns/stifles don't break on damage like Mezzes do.

I play a low-level Coercer (30), so I can only give low level type of advice, but solo Coercer needs to be played in a very cool and relaxed fashion. YOU control the fight. Add comes? Mezz it, and keep doing your fight, while keeping an eye on the mezz timer. Charm breaks? Mezz everything aggressive, stun if you need to buy time between mezz recasts, choose one of the mob, re-charm it, buff it, re-send it into battle, re-mezz all the extras.

As you level, I heard you gain alot more tools, but the basics remain the same: control the fight, play it relaxed and without panic. Know your spellbook and hotbars, and use all your tools. Whereas other mage types are more: "blast it into pieces faster than it can kill you", you should have a more "let them kill themselves" approach while mezzing your way out of getting killed.

My usual tactic is to use the Encounter Mezz first to put as many to sleep as possible. Then I can either charm one as a pet (reduces numbers against me) or divide & conquer.

Assuming you're dealing with a 3-on-1 situation:

Encounter Mezz for the pull or send in existing pet and encounter mezz once he has agro.

Charm one as a pet to turn it against the other 2 (if needed). Remezz or Encounter Stun if needed (since charm takes a while).

Send your pet in on one of the remaining mobs, root/stun the other to keep it at bay.

Stun the one your pet is fighting to make your pet last as long as possible. If the pet croaks, mezz and charm another.

Keep a root, mezz or stun on the mob you're ignoring until you're ready for it.

Keep going til they're gone.

At level 22 you won't have Psychic Wail or the AoE fear yet to help out with getting swarmed. In the mean time keep your Encounter Stun and Encounter Mezz handy for linked mobs. When you or your pet are working on one mob, keep the other rooted out of reach, mezzed or at least stunned so it can't do too much damage.

It also helps if you remain at max distance when you send a pet in on a target. That way if the pet breaks, or something else bad happens, you have a few seconds while it tries to run back in order to toss out a mezz or a stun and buy some more time. Usually I'll root the target mob, then mezz the pet about the time it's on top of me. Charm one of em (usually the one with more health ) and resume fighting.

Remember pets are disposable. Charm a member of an encounter and let it kamikaze on one of its friends. When it dies, encounter mezz then charm one of those remaining. Rinse & repeat until they're all either dead or under your control. Either way the mob isn't hitting you so it's a win.

Also keep a few health potions in your bags to give you a little extra boost for those skin-of-the-teeth moments we all have.
