My husband was having this EXACT same problem as several of you have posted since the last patch. Everytime he hit play the game would say it stopped working. This is what we did to fix the problem:

Go to your Everquest II folder (The main one found under the Sony folder)

Right click on the folder and click on properties.

UNCHECK the read-only square.

Click ok to have it change for all subfolders and files.

This worked for us and I hope it does for you too =)

Unfortunately it would seem that I and a couple others tried this and it didn't do the trick. Was a good try though, but I think theres a bigger problem somewhere here that the tech support just don't want to look into.

@sargan; I would hardly say they don't want to look into anything, with the bombarment they recieve from us about problems, they seem to be doing a rather good job trying to keep base with us. Maybe its more along the lines of something they cannot find. *shrug* I know we've gone round and round to wrack out what ever the stupid bug is I am having and nothing seems to be working.

Any time the exe changes on a application with a software firewall, chances are the firewall will determine that something has changed on the application because of malware and will block the application from running.

Yes I can confirm that it does not stay un-checked, but I think the important thing is when you go thru the process of having all subfolders and files be changed that there IS some file(s) in there somewhere that is incorrectly read-only and this fixes it. JMO though =p

BUMPING for a Fix .... Everything was working just fine, Not it crashes as soon as you click play after the patcher. Running Windows XP 64 Bit, ... Nearly double all the RECOMMENDED hardware specs to play NVIDIA cards SLI'd ... This clearly isnt a vista issue because my friend is also now having to deal with it and he has Windows 32 bit, ... Anyone find a solution to this? ... I mean ... everything was working amazing until the most recent patch, Im searching everywhere for an answer and Im coming up with nothing ... Come on guys ... this is ridiculous ... Fix your game because Im honestly growing so tired of the gaming becoming more and more unplayable as the updates keep coming.

Greetings,

Based on the information presented, I can't tell what's causing the problem or even if everyone here is experiencing the same problem. If you're crashing immediately to desktop after selecting a character and you're getting a 'login rejected' error or no error at all, you'll probably want to PM me your station name so I can check for any problems. If that's not the error you're seeing then you'll probably want to detail exactly what it says and where it occurs so that we can investigate.

Thanks

There is already a 4 page thread on this, this was an attempted fix, But the issue that everyone is having is: As soon as they click the play button from the EQ Patcher/Launcher after its done patching or scanning files, It immediately crashes. The Game isnt seen, it never even gets to load up, Just crashes immediately. This problem has been seen with VISTA users, and XP users, with 64 bit operating systems and 32 bit operating systems, Soooo it's a big problem. Read peoples posts and see what they say, so far everyones attempted fix's havent worked.... Tried reinstalling EQII and all, There's a much more in depth thread thats currently 4 pages long adressing the same issue.

The fix that worked for me was:

Uninstall the NVIDIA Forceware Network Access Manager from add/remove programs.

Hope this works for others as well.
