In an effort not to sound to critical about the "customer service" that Sony offers I will leave names of the offensive out of this post.

My issue is this, I would like to move my sons character (undergeared 63 guardian) from my account to one of my GF's accounts. Sounds simple enough correct? However being that the 2 accounts don't have the same name on them I was unable to do it through the automated way. I was directed to contact customer support to resolve this issue. Upon contacting customer support I was asked for the answer to my secret question to attempt to match the info on the 2 accounts temporarily.

Here is where the "fun" started.

Approximately 6 months after EQ2 went live a friend of my former roommate got military orders out of the country. Instead of allowing the account to die he gave the account to me. I have been paying & playing this account ever since. I know way back when in order for me to change the password etc I needed that info. I thought at the time that I had changed the answer to that question ... apparantly I did not.

Upon attempting to explain my situation and possibly find a workaround to make this issue go away I was threatened with having my account banned. It was also suggested to me to attempt to make contact with the original owner of the account to find out the answer to this question. Like I said previously in this post I did not know the gentleman all that well in the first place and he got stationed in Italy in the second. Where is the justice in paying in good faith for an account 5 times as long as the original owner had and because he "gifted" the account to me I am threatened with banning?

Being that there were 2 accounts involved here, and just before I went on to live chat support I changed my GF's account payment info to read my credit card. Why couldn't her info be changed to match my account ... she knows the answer to her question. However being that the CSR was wrapped around the axle about my account he stuck with the find out the answer or risk banning. This is purely insane imho.

What are the fixes for this issue? There has to be one or SOE does not care all that much about the customers issues, or does SOE just want to run as many of their loyal paying customers to AoC, WoW, or Warhammer?

Unfortunately there is no legal way to share or transfer accounts or characters unless the owners on the two accounts are the same person, or you are on an exchange server. The moment you told the CSR that it was originally someone else's account you basically admitted to breaking the EULA (albeit unintentionally, I'm sure).

While their inflexibility is understandably frustrating they would be within their rights to refuse to help anyone but the original account owner. I would hope they would be civil about it and at least try to find a workaround, but the truth of it is that they really don't have to. With the rash of account hijackings not too long ago I'm not completely surprised they would be gun-shy about shared accounts.

As a workaround, have you considered moving your son's character to an exchange server and simply purchasing it from yourself on the desired destination account? It would be stuck on Bazaar or Vox, but its one way you could legally move it off the account.

The CSR I spoke to last night said I need the answer to that question to establish ownership of the account. I can understand that however, I would like to point out that most businesses also have a policy of the customer is always right. Here it appears that the policy is "our rules are law" and never to be questioned. To question these is to risk banning. Even in the case I am in by paying for the account for 5 times as long as the original owner I would have hoped that would have established my ownership of the account. Hell I have moved toons to/from that account to my other one many times. How much more do I have to do to establish ownership?

Moving his toon to the exchange servers is not an option ... for the same reason my main is stuck on a dead server (not going to pass that name as I don't want him banned as well) Between my GF and I we have far to many 80 crafters to move anyone of the toons to a "deserted island" of a different server.

Just figured I would throw this in as well. Since I have aquired the account I have purchased DoF, KoS, EoF (which was an all in one), and RoK (another all in one). All the original account holder purchased was the original EQ2 software. Seems to me that even purchasing just one of the all in one packs negates the original owners hold on the account as I payed twice for the software he purchased to set up the account.

I still fail to see where I (even unintentionnally) violated the EULA on this one.

AstusFox wrote:

I would like to point out that most businesses also have a policy of the customer is always right.

I see this quite often, but I would like to point out that this is totally incorrect. "The customer is always right" was an Ad slogan used by a company that went out of business in the 1970's. Most businesses do not have anything remotely resembling this policy. Ones that do tend to lose a substantial amount of money to fraud.

The fix for the issue is getting your son his own account. It's against the EULA to share an account to begin with. It's against the EULA to transfer ownership of an account (you can't even do that on The Bazaar server). By their rules your account should be banned. Instead of insulting their customer service you should really be grateful that they are being lenient with you as you have already admitted to multiple serious violations of the EULA. To me it sounds like they are bending over backwards to try and help you as it is.

And while you say you want to transfer it to your girlfriends account, they have no way of knowing that you didn't actually sell the character and are trying to get them to help with delivery. I'm not saying that this is what you are doing, but I am pointing out they have no reason to take your word for it. Besides, paying for an account does not mean you are the owner of it. I've paid for friends accounts in the past, but this hardly made me the owner of their accounts.

And The Bazaar server is far from a "deserted island". I play on multiple servers, The Bazaar being just one of them. They have a healty, active population and, quite honestly, some of the best and most helpful people I've seen on any server in any game.

Bending over backwards not to ban me?

Original owner paid what $40 for the software & $15*6 months ($90) for a grand total of $130 spent.

Me: $40 each for DoF, KoS, EoF, RoK = $160, $8 each for Bloodlines, Splitpaw, and Fallen Dynasty = $24, and $15/month*30 months = $450. For a grand total of $634.

Not to mention the $764 each for the 3 other accounts my GF and I have.

So I have paid $2926 over the past 3 years to play this game and I am supposed to bend over and thank the CSR for not banning me? Sorry if I think that the $2926 investment over his $130 investment should garner me some clout into whether or not I own the account.

I will not kiss any backside for the "pleasure" of playing this game or the priviledge of not being banned. Me and my cash will go elsewhere.

PS: And in my opinion any server away from the crafters I spent time levelling to 80 is a deserted island as now I would have to pay for services I can do myself on the server I am on.

I'm going to have to agree with saying that the CSR's have been pretty understanding. You've already told them the account isn't yours, yet they're willing to go ahead with establishing the account in your name so long as you have the answer to the secret question. The fact of the matter is...regardless of how much money you've spent on expansions and the adventure packs, the account is still the rightful possession of the original owner. If he wanted, he would have every right to come back to the States and take the account back to himself (Though I doubt he'd do that.)The point I'm trying to make, is that SoE has to go through a lot of procedures in making sure accounts are rightfully owned. Otherwise as someone else mentioned, there'd be a lot of stolen accounts at the moment. They can't make exceptions for one person based on their saying they added expansions onto the account. I sympathize with you on your whole ordeal at the moment, but I'll also have to make the suggestion to get the All-In-One pack (Which is rather cheap. All expansions/add-ons for the price of one), and then transfer your sons character to that account. It'd be the easiest method to get through this, though a bit more expensive than the $50 transfer.Or if you can get in contact with your friend in anyway and get the answer, all the better.

On this subject I will be dealing SOE on the phone directly. This account has been in my name paid for by me for well over 2 years. At this point if the original owner were to come and demand his account back I would demand payback for all the upgrading to not only the account but to virtually every character on the account.

As for him being my friend that is impossible as he was a friend of my former roommate that I had met what a couple of times before he was stationed away from the US. I don't have anyway to contact him. I don't even remember his name ... as far as I am concerned his name is Astus. Furthermore I haven't spoken to my former roommate in about 1.5 years.

The only problem is...while the expansions may have been paid for in your name, they were activated in his . Albiet you haven't talked to your room mate in 1 and a half years, why not try giving him a call?

CS questions/complaints really need to be handled via petitions or emails using the Knowledge Base (www.station.sony.com/kb) and selecting Email Support. The OP has and is using these options already, so this thread really isn't necessary here other than as an outlet for some venting.Thanks.
