Okay, so sometime in 2005 I won the original EQ2 at a contest and of course didn't need it because I already had one. So what if I would create a new account now and use this original EQ2 activation key? With all the Living Legacy gifts etc I am very confused now.

Would I get those free months playtime till 31. July and all the other expansion packs for free? Or would this be an account limited to Level 50 then, not being able to zone into Sinking Sands etc.? And would I be able to create races like the Fae and Arasai?

You might be able to play as them.

I think your questions are answered. But there's a reason you might want to use that key anyway, after having gotten an account. Various claimable items are controlled by the CD keys you've entered on the account. There's several items associated with the old, original-game CD keys that can't be gotten with the new, current keys. Once you've gotten an account, you might want to go and enter that old key to get things like the talking Antonia Bayle statue (only available from the original DVD package).

You cannot play Arasai unless you have purchased EoF, but I believe you can zone into the zones that came with the Arasai update.
