Templar gives you healing, healing, and more healing, and some melee-related buffs.  You need a bunch of DPS, and a bit of tankability, in a non-caster package. So, I'd go swashbuckler.*  Both are good-aligned, and they have complimentary debuffs for DPSing easier stuff.  (Templars debuff physical mitigation, swashies have a big Divine damage debuff on one of their snares.) * - in fact, I do go swashbuckler; I've run swash/templar in a two-box setup, and also tanked with my swash with a guildie templar healing in a 4-person group.

Yes I agree a non-bard scout would be a good partner.   swashy or brigand probably best.   I did run all of the heroic claymore and pre-castle SOD with a SK/ Templar duo which worked well but was a bit slow.

Wife and I are 80, and duo'ed most all the way as Templar and Swash.  We are well equipped, casual raiders, and can duo most group content.  How well played each class is will factor in to how much you are able to accomplish alone, but even so, this duo has a lot of room for error.  Swash/brigands are equipped with some tanking tools, and the swash has a high dps output.
