Ok i must say starting off this thread that there is more then one way to skin a cat... meaning more then one way will and can work, but this will tell those up and coming lvl 80 Swashy's a bit about this guy and how to beat him without your "uber Raid gear filled" group. (and without an Illy)

This is a tried and true method, as we wiped about 20 times trying all different scenarios and group options, but in the end, with proper timing on Vent channel, and a bit of luck (info to come) we ended up getting the hang of this guy and killed him 3 times in a row for different Swashlers needing their epic.

Steps:

1.) Group: Debates and debates about this. Very simple, you get hit with AOE = you wipe... This guy hits and he hits HARD... Its not HOW hard he hits but how long he stiffles that kills. The easiest way to kill him is to have AOE immunity THE ENTIRE FIGHT. How do you do this you ask? No problem.

Guard, with 15 Second AOE immunity

3 x Swashy spec'd for AOE immunity

Templar and Warden (all need to be good, but not raid geared out)

2.) The tactics: (ones we used very successfully once we got the hang of it)

Pirate Jones walks accross the plank (not aggro) and settles himself near the middle pillar, from the time he steps on your ship to the time he aggros is ABOUT 10 seconds... but you can easily tell when he is going to aggro as he has a text window pop up over his head. As soon as that window disapears, (about less then one second later) he aggros.

Right as the Text window disapears, Swashy #1 Hits AOE Immune. The Temp can either choose to hit sanctuary at this point or just be ready to cure the Tanks Fear / stifle etc, as he needs to get Aggro VERY quickly.

Start Pounding on this guy.

***Side note .....If Rrarwrk is up, he hits VERY VERY VERY hard, and either try to mez him, or if he kills you take the wipe and keep doing what i say again on the next round as he is a random spawn and sometimes doesnt come at all, sometimes comes late into the fight. If hes not up, the fight is 1,000,000 times eaiser.

At 20 seconds, roughly, (use of a stop watch is suggested) have the guard hit his 15 Second AOE immune and keep pounding....

As the Adds come in from the other boat (this is where you need to be coordinated) unlike popular belief, they can be nasty [Removed for Content] and their aggro needs to be kept away from the healers. As you see them come accross, call it out and have one or 2 of your Swashy's do their AOE to get them off the healers (as they will automatically be drawn to the Temp from her reactives)

At (about) 30 Seconds, have Swashy #2 Pop AOE immunity, and keep pounding Pirate Jones, (again watch for 2nd set of adds and AOE accordingly to get them off the healers)

At (about) 40 Second have Swashy #3 Pop AOE immunity and burn Pirate Jones to the ground. This is where all the stops are pulled and your really pounding him and not worrying about the adds (as they should be on the swashy's or MT and not healers)

With 3 Swashy's doing 1200-1600ish DPS over the course of a 1.25-1.5 minute fight, the 2 healers doing 800ish Heals per second, and Constant AOE immunity from the 3 Swashlers and the Guardian, this fight can be had repeatedly.

I told you earlier about Rrarwk, Pirate Jones' pet. As you may have happen to you, if he spawns right away, you will have to immediately mez him, and keep him mez'd or take the wipe and repeat till he doesnt spwan. Its completely random if he spawns or not, as we saw him 4 times in a row not spawn for us, then a few times in a row he did spawn, etc. Its random and luck plays a part. but you can do this without mezzing anyone, and without an Illy.

Once we got the timing right and the AOE preventions up the entire fight, we were golden 3 final times we fought him, for different Swashy's needing updates...

This is not guesswork, this is what we did and once we got it down, it worked.... But the use of 4 AOE immunities with 3 Swashlers and 1 Guard does work. If you use my steps provided above, you will be successful. The wild card in the kill is the bird Rrarwk. If he does not spwan, it makes life easier. Dont go into this thinking you will be successful on teh first, 2nd or even the third try. Go in expecting to wipe quite a few times. But the more DPS the better and obviously the more Swashy's that you get in there the more AOE immunes and the more updates you get at one time.

The timing on the AOE's (as we tried to calculate) are seemingly random, though he does do one right at the beginning (Swash #1 prevents this) and at around 20 seconds comes his next (Guard prevents this), the next is at between 35-50 seconds, the last 2 swashy's will Prevent this, and there is usually one final one, that hoepfully comes while the last Swash AOE immune is still up. By this time he should be dead.

Things to bring. Freedom of Mind / Action potions, so that if you do get hit by the AOE's everyone can pop the potions and keep DPS'n / Healin through. Again, its not usually the AOE that kills, its the Healers being stiffled / stunned for 10-15 seconds after that kills everyone. You can guess what happens at that point if both healers are stiffled for that long.

This has been meant for a guide. Im sure there are lot of different ways to kill him, but the above info should help, as we were able to time things out quite nicely and AOE immunity every 10 seconds seems the only sure fire way of preventing him from getting it off on the group.

Other ways you can try is to have all Guards and Swashy's AOE immunes be on macros and just have the next person in line try to count in their head 13 seconds after each Macro is seen, to keep it going, but we saw that it was just easier to have one person call out the times (17, 18, 19.... 27, 28, 29... etc..) so that each group member besides the time keeper could focus on other things, like adds and keeping pirate Jones on his [Removed for Content] and stunned the majority of the fight.

Hope this helps.

The AE Is a 30 second timer, the randomness you were seeing was due to Traumatic Swipe and Interrupts on Jones. A mob won't necessarily use an ability once it is available, it simply goes into a pool of available abilities.Guard AE Immunity only affects fighters, the reason nothing was hitting you while your gaurdian's ae immunity was up was because Jones didn't cast any AE's during that time.I find its best to have the swash disband from group to pop Jones. This gives the group time to rez the swash and pull when they feel like it, not when Jones feels like it.We've done the fight several times without a mezzer. Zerker, Templar, Warden (Or Fury), Swash, Dirge, random 6th person doesn't really matter.Templar uses Sanctuary on pull, swash lands swipe before AE goes off. Once it does go off the Templar group cures. On the first set of adds the Zerker uses both ae's to grab aggro. On the second set of Adds zerker uses Gibe and open wounds. Swash pops AE Immunity 40 seconds after the first AE goes off (If swipe was on). If the AE hasn't gone off by the time swash ae immunity wears off (YOu'll know because the tank isn't immune), then you have the Druid use Turtle shell and the Templar stands next to warden, ready to group cure. After the frist AE hits and gets cured, the zerker hits adrenaline and switches to offensive stance, full burn on jones and he will be dead before a 3rd ae can go off. We've done this for our Alt swashbucklers and Non raid swashbucklers, the group usually consists of all alts with no raid gear. The tank does not have raid gear, nor the Templar. We did this for our swashbucklers that are in iraq and play with over 1k pings and bad packetloss.

Thanks for the post, LIke i said, more then one way to skin a cat. 2 ways that you can try now... anyone else have a method that works? This was the hardest part of the Swashy epic by far, and any Epic i've helped on or done in the past.

Methods and techniques that work, please post them here. Not eveyrone can get every class they want, so any wierd classes and techniques that worked would be great.

So when you ask for help in general chat and someone says, "oh you cant do that without **INSERT CLASS HERE**" Just look on this thread and see what people have done with it.

Guardian, Mystic, Inquisitor, Swashbuckler, Dirge, and Coercer. On pull I AoE blocked and went full burn on Jones to rip aggro and eat the fear and the stifle. Since guardian wasn't effected he was able to establish a decent amount of hate before the next fear. Also when I came out of it, I put up my hate xfer. After about 25 seconds, the dirge put up her AoE immunity. Our inquisitor was on the ball with the cures so we didn't suffer too much with the stifle. All the while our coercer was mezzing the adds.Other than that it was a straight and brutal burn. We managed to kill Jones with only three AoEs going off. When the guardian was stifled I used up my temp buffs and tried to rip aggro. When he was either cured or came out of it, I used SoH to put it back on him or if I didnt rip aggro I just evaded. I wanted to keep Jones off of the healers at all costs. Now something I didn't tell you. We wiped 15 times, because at the end of the day it's all about the luck. So if you do not have the group setup the OP suggested, and many of you won't, your timing must either be lucky or precise because it's all about how you overcome the AoEs. Also you must have a mezzer that is strong enough to mezz the adds with no fear of resisting and you must have classes that can AoE block.Heh, that group of people have vowed never to do the encounter again... well except the Mystic who's a masochist.
