A couple of things are going on here. Your hardware is over heating somewhere, which is causing the reboot. The directX error is UNcommon, and is due to a corrupt file. Down below is the fix needed for the render errorFirst you will need to download your video cards newest driver.NVIDA - http://www.nvidia.com/ (sorry NVIDA site was down)ATI - http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.htmlas well as the newest version of DirectX9.0c from Microsofthttp://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...;DisplayLang=enand a driver cleaning programhttp://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=745Once you have both files downloaded, you will need to reboot your PC in SAFEMODE. To Get to Safe mode you will need to restart your PC. As soon as it turns back on, start holding down the F8 Key. You should be offered a option screen then instead of it booting into Windows right away. You will want to select SAFE MODE with NETWORKING. Windows will now load, but it will look different from what you are used to. Install and use the Driver Cleaner program, this will totally remove any old drivers for your video card. After it is finished go ahead and install the DirectX. After this is installed, you will need to reboot the PC, and load it into SAFEMODE again. This time go ahead and install the Video card drivers. Once done, go ahead and reboot the PC normally and try again to start the game.If all goes well, the game will load perfectly, and you should have no errors.

I'll try the safemode thing for my notebook, as for the over heating problem you say my desktop is haveing why does it not reboot when I revert to my old video driver, works fine for EQ2 (not EQ1 cause it keeps asking me to upgrade my driver when I try to use my old driver)?

Also concerning the notebook, nvidia doesn't have my drivers cause I have an ati card. it has a radeon x1400. I goto ati site and the 8.5 driver they have wont work with my notebook, even though it says it supports the x1400 but when you dive deeper they give a list of company names that use the x1400 that are supported and guess what....dell's not on that list. I would force the driver but I can't get the driver cause they have that compatibility test you have to pass first to get that far.

I've been using this one that I saved on a CD of drivers for my notebook:

Title : Video:ATI Radeon Mobility X1400 DriverVersion : A04OEM Name : ATIOEM Ver : 8.261-060523a1-033841CComputers : Inspiron - MP061OS : Windows XPLanguages : Brazilian Portuguese, Chinese-S, Chinese-T, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Russian, SpanishCreated : Wed Jun 21 02:27:30 CDT 2006

I'm now gonna try the safemode method you mention with the driver I have on a cd......

I'd ignore the EQ1 message, as far as I am aware that is a bug that has not been squashed yet. As for the downgraded driver not rebooting, I can only guess that one of the changes in the updated drive has a change to it that does not work properly with EQ2.Keep the old driver up and going, and lets see how it works after a week.

OK lets try to use the ATI Uninstaller here then first, instead of driver cleaner, then try to reinstall your driver.http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1275Which ATI driver are you installing BTW?

Concerning the DX question I am using a EXE file.

I downloaded the ati uninstaller you mentioned and I get the following error.

The Windows Installer Service could not be accessedThis can occur if you are running Windows in safemode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctlyinstalled. Contactt your support personnel for assistance.

Also on the desktop I figured out the problem, well kinda. I reduced my video driver down to 7.5 from ATI and it is working fine now but I am still haveing problems with my notebook so please if you can help me at all I would greatly appreciate it.
