Hi,I came back to EQ2 and when I reinstalled it....EAX was selectable under the game's menu, now it's gone. The only choices are Dolby and Miles 2D which both tax the CPU and are pretty crappy <img src="/eq2/images/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY<img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />" />I have X-FI Gamer with the latest 2.15.6 drivers installed. Now EQ2 won't detect it. The card works perfectly with all other EAX games.I'm running Windows XP SP3, all the latest drivers. My suspicion is that the little Settings.exe which tells the main game what sound settings I have as well as what type of speakers, is stuck and can't detect my card. I have tried switching sound card modes from Game Mode to Entertainment mode with no success.More curiously, when EQ2 runs and I select Dolby, when I switched to task manager, I saw the following processes running, in fact..........SEVENTEEN of them. The process names are all the same:"Creative_ALchemy_AL1_Cleanup.0001". Now this is confusing, Alchemy is a program from Creative which allows windows Vista to run older sound enhacement format for several games like GuildWars and EQ2 as well as a number of others.  The irony of course is that I'm not running Windows Vista.I did however reinstall my OS and switched back to XP a few days ago...I had EQ2 backed up and i restored it....perhaps i need to delete some file somewhere in the game's dir? I tried reinstalling sound drivers and even the beta from creative, no success. Please help!

have you tried uninstalling the old drivers...boot into safemode and run guru3d,s driver cleaner or drive cleaner pro...both do a great job and they clean out all the stuff windows uninstall forgets about.

The drivers do play a big part of actually seeing EAX in there.Vochores advice is spot on.If you need help finding the driver, let me know.

Thanks for the tip. I installed Guru 3D and uninstalled the driver from the control panel first and then from safe mode i ran the tool, it cleaned the files....the end result is that it still doesn't detect my hardware.I just read a post that says the person fixed the problem by installing EQ2 on top of the existing installation which "reset" his registry. He doesn' say how to do this though as the game disc doesn't give the option to install, i just have PLAY.How do i do this or is there another way to edit or reset the registry. I'm an advanced user so registry editing is not an issue.

I am sure there is something in the registry, but I have never had to deal with it.  I have moved EQ2 folders about on newly installed XP machines and never once had to worry about registry entries.I will have to delve into other resources today on this.<a rel="nofollow" href="http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/posts/list.m?topic_id=408376" target="_blank"></a>

I fixed the problem. I simply logged in as my other character, that seems to have reset that list and now EAX is selectable on both characters with headphones or 5.1 setting as well as in EQ2Settings.exe.I like the last line in your reply: "I will have to delve into other resources today on this.".
