I played this game about 6 months ago. Then I had a different machine running..2 gigs of rame2140 cpu 1.8 dual coreradeon 3850 256mbwindows xp proI could easily play and get 45-50fps on High Quality.I sold that pc, and built a new one..it has..4 gigs of ram + a 4 gig flash drive in ready boostAMD X2 +4000 Dual Core 2.1 ghzRadeon 3850 512mbWindows Vista Home Premium 64 bitI can't get higher than 20-25fps on any setting but extreme performance, and even then it doesn't go higher than 30. I'm also playing Age of Conan on the same pc.. and getting 60-140fps with everything maxed. I'm not understanding why this game is taking such a performance hit. Even on extreme performance I only get 30fpsl. If I bump it up to high quality I get 20fps, no matter what. What can I do?I really want to come back to the game.. but won't be able to if its gonna play like crap.

You downgraded your PC in respect to EQ2. This is why you see so many posts about SOE upgrading the 5+ year old Star Wars Galaxy game engine that EQ2 uses. EQ2 only uses a single core no matter how many cores you have. It also does many of the "graphics" not on your Video card where they belong but on your CPU. New games like Lotro and AOC use all cpu cores and put all the graphics functions on your video card thus the better graphics and bump in speed. When you went from XP to Vista you slowed down EQ2 about 15% which is normal with games designed before Vista came out.So basically you went from a 1800mhz cpu to a 2100mhz cpu (small step forward) and then moved from XP to Vista (small step backwards... in regard to old games like EQ2)So you should be running about the same speed as before. Now if EQ2 actually used your video card like modern games do and/or used multiple cores then you would see a bump in speed.Consider yourselves lucky as many people are actually downgrading big time.Imagine if you were running EQ2 under a single core 2500mhz cpu under XP and then by a new quad core 2000mhz CPU and upgrade to Vista.... EQ2 runs alot worse under then new system! The ball is now in Sony's court. As time goes on EQ2 will run worse and worse as people upgrade. Unless Sony does something about multiple cores and the video being run on your cpu instead of the video card the game will die off. It's a real shame because I consider EQ2 to be a far superior game over WoW or Lotro (have not tried AOC) but it's showing some serious signs of age and I fear Sony does not want to spend the $$$ to update the graphics. Milk EQ2 until it dies might be the best "business" decision but it sure hurts when you have to watch your favorite game whither and die month by month.-JBP.S. Are you still running the same resolution? Are you still running the same software? You should be doing better than 25fps even with that system.
