Ok heres the issue. Mobs and players simply dont show up about 50% of the time. Lets say i run up to where i know the broker is in any city. Ill see no broker and NO PC's for about 10 seconds, then they all pop up. On orc hill in GFay i cannot see ORC's at ALL unless im literally right on top of them. My wife in the other room see's them fine though. However, the same wolves in the zone i see from a mile away, just the other mobs never show up until i literally run right through them.SYSTEM: AMD 4400+ X2 2gb Ram, 8600GT, 250gb HD, VISTA 32 with SP1 and every update installed.I have uninstalled video drivers, then used driver cleaner to clear out, then installed new drivers.I have installed latest DX9c.Fully updated system.Nothing running in the background. No ad-ware, virus, etc etc. Like i said, this is only on this system and not my wifes, one room away.Fast connection, no FPS problems at ALL either.Cranked game setting to MAX Rendering Distance and also max Shader Distance.Lowered same to 1.Running at 1680x1050 60hz refresh, 22" widescreen, Viewsonic.Have tried sound ON or OFF.Foliage ON and MAX or OFF.Reuse buffers on/off.No VSYNC or Tripple Buffer.TEXTURES at HIGH and mob/Player textures at MEDIUM. Distant at MEDIUM.Cranked animation distance to MAX and also 0.FULL FILE scan and nothing was wrong.NO AA or AFWindowed or Fullscreen mode, same result also.EVERYTHING yields the same result. I cannot see alot of mobs at any distance until im on top of them, or in citys i have to stand and wait (with perfect FPS) for players/NPC's only to load, about 10+ seconds. Needless to say not being able to see your targets makes most gameplay literally impossible. So if anybody can, PLEASE help, ive tried everything else i can think of.DXDIAG to follow, taken while game was running:

UPDATE: It seems to vary with severity depending where i am, or the model type im looking at. Orcs are just about invisible until im on top of them. Skeletons, wolves, treants, though they take 10+ seconds to appear will appear at a long distance. Spiders also. Theres a camp on orc hill with 2 spiders and 2 orc's. I can see the spiders (when they finally load) at very long range, but the orc 2 inches from them never show up till i run through them.

Try tweaking the value cl_lod_scale to see if that helps. Make the number small. Start with cl_lod_scale 1. If that doesn't help, try making it a smaller number like .5. This may not help you at all, but its worth a shot.

Same problem here. but I see orcs fine.

One place I noticed was extremely bad was in Ant around the Klicknic area. The infected carcus that starts a ring event would show sometimes, other times I could see the title but no carcus, and sometimes neither. Without moving I would swing the camera around a bit and it would appear, and if something else would show up on screen like a bird it would dissapear.

I have messed with settings a bit and nothing seems to help. Its not really gamebreaking in my case, but its close, esspecially in places like the caves when things dont draw, or dissappear.

Also, the problem seems to be worse on slopes, like small hills, or places with varried elevation changes, but is just as bad on level ground depending on number of mobs/objects being drawn.

I have always had problems with things like mailboxs/tradeskill instances and such rendering in places like the Willowood, and that problem seems to be gone except when the zone is loaded with peeps.

I would say its my system except nothing has changed with it in the past year, so its one of the changes that was made recently to the game

Oddly enough, i tried 1. Nothing. Then i tried .5 and that made gameplay smoother, but still no dice on fixing the issue. On the beach in the forest ruins in Qeynos for example NONE of the dock workers are visible until i stand directly on top of them. The other mobs display fine except for the still 10+ second pop-up time before they appear. Hell ive tried Extreme Performance and still the behavior is the same, and uglier to boot.Suggestions? At least i know im not alone anymore in this.

I have had/still have this problem with things popping in slowly with my previous pc which my son now uses. After trying for a long time with changing drivers, settings, etc. I am pretty sure it is due to my hard drive being slow - slowing down. I had defragged it many times and tried every little trick but I think it is just showing it's age (6 years old).I noticed that when I zoned in to a place my drive will be running like crazy. As I wait in a spot for everything to appear I see that as things pop in my drive settles down. Just as the mobs, mailbox, dock or whatever appears my drive finally shows little activity. This pc has a P4 2.8ghz processor, 2 gig of ram - and the specs on the rest of the items are above the min requirements for the game. With this pc if I take the Griffon from the Freeport docks to the Nek tower there is only a floating griff tower when I land, so I would have to wait on this tower for the land to pop in otherwise I would fall thru the earth. Also ever try to fight invisible mobs? No fun there to be walking and get kos-ed without ever seeing what hit you.Last fall I built a new pc and I do not have this problem at all with it. This new pc has a 10k Raptor drive and I never have to wait for items to pop in. My new pc is about five feet from my old one and they both use the same DSL box. I really do no believe that my newer graphics card is making the difference as far as items being slow to show up. When I replace the hard drive in my old pc I will know for sure, but it will be a while before I do that.On a side note - a few years back I had built a new pc that from day one had bad lag when playing games. A buddy of mine brought over his pc so we could network and play against each other. He had a slower processor and a graphics card two steps below mine yet when I watched his screen it showed everything behaving way faster/smoother. At that time I did not realize I had a bad drive. It was not until I ran the free diagnostic checkup at pcpitstop that I found out my drive was running slow compared to the same drive from other users. This drive had not failed but as soon as I replaced it, it was like a whole new world when playing games. As far as the above mentioned older pc, pcptistop does tell me it is slower then usual, but since I have my new pc I have not put much effort into replacing the hard drive in it.Anyway, just maybe a possible something that you may want to check into. Good Luck,Ovidious of Oasis

Well the difference is that i load zones and non interactable terrain (aka walls, floor, towers, doors etc etc) instantly. Its only mobs, and only certain mobs, who have this pop up problem. On the griffon rides everything is smooth and fast, just mobs/NPC's/Players have the pop up issues (and some tradeskill nodes, area specific i think).7200 RPM 250gb HD, i doubt thats the problem. It loads everything else just fine, and probably 90% of the player base uses a 7200 RPM HD with no issues also.Im thinking something Setting related, or GFX card specific. Maybe drivers. However the drivers are fresh and all previous files were DriverCleaned out.

I know which orcs you mean -- I had the same problem. However, adjusting the sliders under the Model Detail settings (the distance bias, not the textures) to around .9 - .3 made them appear from much further away. Also this is reflected in LOD bias and particle bias so check those sliders, also. (Particle Settings section)I can't think of anything else except a hardware issue like mismatched RAM (right kind of RAM is in your mobo? right configurations? latencies?) or ... a processor issue of some type where your processor is just not physically performing. You clearly have a bottlneck somewhere, and since your game settings don't alter the performance in any way for the better, it seems to point to some type of physical hardware or configuration issue. Also, many users report issues with Vista in general - which - to my knowledge - has yet to be exactly determined as to its cause or fix. Unfortunately.

Im dunning DDR2 800 XMS2, matched pair default 1.9 voltage no over clocking on the board. I bought the ram 3 weeks ago actually because my last 2G ram burned out during a storm.I have the LOD Bias all the way to .5 right now, with no change. Ill try setting it down to .1 (can it GO any lower?) today and seeing if that helps any.

I started messing around with my system and added another stick of RAM, the game played much smoother and it seemed to help with things disappearing at random. Unfortunately it was a slower stick, and although my MB supports running different speed RAM, the game doesn't seem to like it. One crash to Char select, one crash restarted system.Have a better system on the way though and hopefully I will be able to enjoy some of the eye candy soon.

LOD at .1 hasnt made any noticeable change from .5RAM all matches the board and itself, fresh parts etc. 2gb should be fine. Hell, my wife runs a 3.3G P4 w/1gb RAM, ATI x1650XT and doesnt have these issues. I have a better frame rate than her, true, but i have bugs like crazy to make up for it?

I used to get this problem a lot back in the Desert of Flames era. I ended up replacing a hard drive and adjusting my RAM timings/voltage and that cleared it up mostly. I only really saw it happen in Pillars of Flame and some areas in sinking sands(around undercity and the twin tears). I figured at the time that it had to do with the number of low quality models I was allowing and the population density of those areas.

As others have mentioned, you may want to run a stress test on your hard drive to see if you can uncover any errors. I'm going to see if I can find more information about exactly what I did that helped the problem.

Ubersold, while looking at the system specs I noticed something that looked a bit off to me... I am no guru and dont understand how everything works but look here.---------------Display Devices--------------- Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT Manufacturer: NVIDIA Chip type: GeForce 8600 GT DAC type: Integrated RAMDAC Device Key: EnumPCIVEN_10DE&DEV_0402&SUBSYS_0439196E&REV_A1 Display Memory: 1008 MB Dedicated Memory: 241 MB Shared Memory: 767 MB Current Mode: 1680 x 1050 (32 bit) (59Hz) Monitor: ViewSonic VX2235wmFirst think that got me was the (59Hz) seems lower than most I have seen.. second is that your showing 1008 MB display memory, with 241 Dedicated (I am assuming thats whats on the card) but 767 Shared ( I am assuming thats using system memory) If your running Vista, it needs memory, and we all know the game chews up memory like the cookie monster.. is it possible that you don't have something set right there? I mean I dont know, its just a thought.

UPDATE:I swapped my mobo out today and the ram. 2GB fresh ram (2 1gb sticks) and a new Asus mobo. Reinstalled, did updates drivers etc etc etc.The problem is gone. My guess? My ram wasn't bad, but i did notice on post SOMETIMES i would get a memory parity error (first 64K) and other times i wouldn't. I believe the RAM slots themselves were the issue and caused my bizzare problems. Why it was only certain mobs in certain places, i dunno. I did later the the old ram in the new system and it tested fine, which is why i conclued the slots to be at fault.Carry on! And hopefully this post solves some other peoples issues later on.

I'm glad that worked for you.I know I am very hesitant about posting information about bad hardware that could be causing an issue, and on how to test for that type of issue. As you I hope others can use your information to help them out as well.
