I downloaded "Play the Fae" as a free trial version a year ago. Then I subscribed. Then I was told to buy the game at a store so I could get all of the expansions included. Then last winter I bought the "Rise of Kunark".

Recently I went to remove an application from my computer using "Add / Remove" in Windows XP. I was shocked to discover that I have four applications related to "Everquest II" in the "Add / Remove" list and each of the four applications is huge.

I also discovered when using a defragmentation program that my hard-drive is starting to get a little full.

Are any of the following four "Everquest II" applications in the "Add / Remove" window redundant? Can I remove any of them without loss of gameplay? Most of my toons are Fae and live in Kelethin; a few live in Neriak; if any of that matters.

1. Everquest II 13,451.00 MB

2. Everquest II 13,451.00 MB

3. Everquest II: Play the Fae 13,451.00 MB

4. Everquest II: Rise of Kunark 15,327.00 MB

The first two applications on the above list intuitively appear to be redundant, but I do not know if they are.

What about the "Play the Fae" application? Since I installed "Play the Fae" first and later bought the game in a box, do I need to keep "Play the Fae" installed on my computer? It is identical in size to the applications numbered 1 and 2 above, making me suspect it is redundant with them.

When I start the game I always click on the EverQuestII icon on my desktop. Not the "EverQuestII: Play the Fae" icon.

Thanks for any help with this. I would like to keep playing the game, but I cannot allow it to fill-up my hard-drive.

Actually ... Are all of those installations pointing to the same folder? I mean, are you getting all that from the add/remove applications list?

You might look in C:Program Files and see how many installations you actually have. They're probably all under the Sony subfolder in Program files. It's possible they're all listed in add/remove programs, but they're all pointing to the same folder so it's not actually taking up that much space, it's just multiple listings in add/remove programs.

The last few times I've installed EQ2 i've done it via the Station Launcher (Beta) so nothing is in my add/remove programs to compare it to.

check the size of your eq2 folder, just because they appear in add/remove doesn't mean they actually take that space on your HDD.Check the eq2 folder located(probably) in C: and look there and see how much space they actually take.Worse case... nuke them all and reinstall IF your connection allows a good download...

Thanks for the replies. Yes, all four are listed in "Add / Remove".

I checked the size of the Sony folder in my c-drive. The Sony folder is 15 GB in size. Is that about the size of the "Rise of Kunark" application I listed above?

15,327.00 MB

I'm not sure anymore how many megabytes go into a gigabyte. I guess I could look that up! LOL

15G sounds about right... that's the size my folder has... + - ...

Looks like you're fine then ... Just leave everything as-is. If you remove it, it will remove all the install files off your drive and you'll have to reinstall. So long as you don't have EQ2 installed somewhere other than your Sony folder then you're fine.

If it's driving you nuts having 4 things in your list, you could copy your sony folder to somewhere else, uninstall everything via add/remove program, then move the copy back to the original location and start EQ2 via the shortcut on your desktop.

P.S i play the game from Play the Fae... dunno why but i do...

Okay. Thanks for the replies. I believe everything related to EQ2 is in the Sony folder. So it looks like I do not have 55 GB or so being taken up by the software.

If it worries you, you can always delete the game entirely and reinstall just RoK. If you have the Game discs, it should take too long to install, you can run the patcher overnight after installation....Just as a comparison. My SONY file has 9.78 GB in it. Within that file is my Eq2 Map updater (1.08 MB) and the EQ 2 folder (9.93 GB). I have a few mods in this folder as well....

Technically, you could get into the registry and remove those entries to clean things up a bit, but unless you know what you're doing it's not really recommended.
