Hello,   I decided to try out the Living Legacy since I made a trial account a while ago, I had the trial still installed so i spent all night downloading and patching the game, and now I keep getting an error saying "everquest II has detected and unrecoverable error and must shutdown" and that it failed to create zone when i tried to leave the beginner zone by boat to Freeport.  I have no idea what to do anymore, I have reinstalled directx 9, I have updated my graphic drivers, and run the game as administrater. I'm at a loss of ideas and any help will be great, i can't even log into that character without it crashing now<img src="/eq2/images/smilies/9d71f0541cff0a302a0309c5079e8dee.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" width="15" height="15" />

<p>Sorry, I assumed you were using Vista when you mentioned running the game as an admin.</p><p>Have you tried running a full file scan from the launchpad since you started seeing this problem?  If not, you will definately want to do so.</p><p> Besides that, you may want to turn off some of the unnecessary startup applications since one of them may be conflicting with the game.   You can do so by following the steps below(I believe these steps work in media center, though I haven't tried them on that specific OS)</p><p>1. Select the START button.</p><p>2. Select RUN, then type in "msconfig" (for Vista, type msconfig in the search bar at the bottom of the Start Menu)</p><p>3. Press OK</p><p>4. I'm actually having the same issue as Brado except i tried leaving to Qeynos =)"EQ2 detected unrecoverable error and shutdown.Verify e:liveeqgameclientsrcgamescene.cpp (4134)Failed to create zone, run full scan from patcher."First thing i noticed is it's trying to load the zone from the wrong place. I have the game installed in program files. Perhaps it thinks i have a cd? I also tried running the full patch scan but nothing new was needed. I'm also running xp home edition.

I followed your instructions and that still didn't fix the problem, and yes i have done a full scan a few times, and still didn't do anything.

<p>F22,</p><p> Thats actually a somewhat different error and relates to the Direct X subsystem.  You may want to reinstall Direct X 9.0c as a first step.  I have provided a link to that below:</p><p><a href="http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=cb7397f3-0949-487b-9247-8fee451bf952&DisplayLang=en" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...&DisplayLang=en</a></p><p>It also could be caused by a windows firewall or a conflicting program.  Follow the instructions below to correct those issues.</p><p>To disable Windows Firewall:1. Select the START button.2. Select RUN, then type in "services.msc" (for Vista, type services.msc in the search bar at the bottom of the Start Menu)3. Press OK4. Scroll down the list to Windows Firewall5. Right click it , then left click Properties6. You should be in the General tab7. Click the Stop button, then set Startup Type to disabled8. Click apply, then ok</p><p>The instructions to remove unneccessary background applications is actually a few posts up in this same thread.  Follow those steps as well if the problem persists.</p>

I went across the way to the other post about the same issue. Read over what happened to them and possible fixes1. Downloaded up to date nvidia drivers2. Reinstalled DirectX3. Downloaded optional voice content4. Shut down start up programs5. Disabled my beloved firewall. Windows firewall had been put to rest some time ago6. Right clicked EQ icon properties to compatability and tried to switch it to XP. However, XP option wasn't there. Still running XP now, figured that was a Vista only option but what the hell =)7. Followed the steps to find the Vista UAC thing but couldn't find it since i'm not running vista. Any other suggestions or tips the fellas at the office can think of?Thanks. Edit - Noticed i always download the same file "winter2005.mp3".

This is very similar to what you just posted.First you will need to download your video cards newest driver.<a href="http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.nvidia.com/Download/inde...aspx?lang=en-us</a><a href="http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html</a>as well as the newest version of DirectX9.0c from Microsoft<a href="http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&DisplayLang=en" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...;DisplayLang=en</a>and a driver cleaning program<a href="http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=745" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=745</a>Once you have both files downloaded, you will need to reboot your PC in SAFEMODE.  To Get to Safe mode you will need to restart your PC.  As soon as it turns back on, start holding down the F8 Key. You should be offered a option screen then instead of it booting into Windows right away. You will want to select SAFE MODE with NETWORKING. Windows will now load, but it will look different from what you are used to.  Install and use the Driver Cleaner program, this will totally remove any old drivers for your video card. After it is finished go ahead and install the DirectX.  After this is installed, you will need to reboot the PC, and load it into SAFEMODE again.  This time go ahead and install the Video card drivers. Once done, go ahead and reboot the PC normally and try again to start the game.If all goes well, the game will load perfectly, and you should have no errors.

I also run EQ2 with Windows XP and encounter the same error when leaving the starting area. Unfortunately none of your hints solved my problem. I disabled unnecessary applications, disabled Firewall and virus protection, cleaned my drivers like you suggested (quite a ride), reinstalled DirectX. This nasty error just won't go away.I think F22 might be onto something, because I've got no drive e: either, yet Everquest tries to verify Gamescene.cpp there.Maybe you've got another ace up your sleeve?

I went ahead and downloaded the driver cleaner. Killed off current nvidia driver and dx. Followed the drivers instructions and got rid of the nvidia driver for good then reinstalled as directed. Got juiced and fired up EQ. I noticed it didn't download the same file which was good and didn't ask for my default keyboard preferences. Soon as it came to loading the zone the game crashed with the same error. Glad to try any other ideas though.

I am, like Brado, playing on a trial account and am having the same issue. The crash seems to occur whenever loading a zone that isn't available to trial accounts - I've had it happen trying to load Haven, Freeport, and Qeynos. This makes me suspect that the issue is caused by attempting to access the full game with a trial client. Though I downloaded most of the game files fresh, there were still a few things leftover from my old trial install that could be causing the problem. In any case, the title screen for the game still reads "Play the Fae", which I presume doesn't happen on full accounts.I could be entirely off base here - normally I would do more testing before throwing out a potential red herring, but I'm also currently dealing with VPU crashing issues on my ATI card so doing so is difficult.F22Reject, apadburg, and anyone else with the issue: are you using old installs of trial clients? And if this could be related to the problem, can the TSRs suggest what files to delete and redownload to make the trial client behave like a normal client?

Hello Ezrast, the crash occurs when I try going to Haven, Freeport and Qeynos, too. At first I was in fact using an old install of a trial client. As I suspected this could be the source of the error, I uninstalled the whole game and got the install client from the living legacy website. After downloading quite a lot of data (about 7 GB, it took a whole night), I thought I was good to go, but the error is still there. My title screen also says "Play the fae". I don't know whether this is "normal" or caused by some remnants from uninstalling.Edit: Deleting the UI related files (see below) proved to be no solution either.<span class="postbody">eq2_recent.inieq2_default.iniEverQuest2.exeeq2.ini Servername_CharacterName_EQ2_uisettings.iniStation name_characters.ini</span>

Nah, I'm not willing to give up. I got no opportunity to look at the capital cities or the world beyond Newbie Island. Newbie Island ain't exactly eye candy and all this fae business is just not my cup of tea. I'm eager to stroll through Qeynos or Freeport, so this problem needs to be solved <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />

<p>I have this problem too!</p><p>I created a Fey character and tireid to zone to Lesser Feydark. The game crashes with an "unrecoverable error" and continues to crash whenever I log into that character now.</p><p>I also clreated a Sarnak character and leveled him to level 20. Whenever I try to take the griffin to Butcherblock Mountain, the game pops a meaasage that it cannot load "exp03_rgn_butcherblock" and the griffin dumps me in the ocean. I suspect it's a variation on the above problem.</p><p>I checked that the exp03_rgn_butcherblock.vpk file is there. I ran a full scan. I ever redownloaded and reinstalled the entire client application, all 10gb of it. NOTHING helps.</p><p>Like others, my account is a Trial account that was recativated for the Living Legacy promotion. I suspecet that the problem is due to the "trial" flag still being set somewhere in the program, even though we're supposed to have full access to the game now. I have a bit of evidence to support it: when the game launches, it shows the "Play the Fae" trial welcome screen.</p><p>Sony, please fix this ASAP! I was just starting to enjoy this game, but this is issue is making the game unplayable to exactly the same people who you're trying to entice back into the game.   </p>

I realized this problem with the implementation of the shard of hate zone. But it seems to exist much longer. It began with things like new cloaks were all white, missing particle effects, inability to preview an object within the preview window and a lot of missing textures:<a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.onlinegamer-portal.de/web/media/eq2/temp/EQ2_001182.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://www.onlinegamer-portal.de/web/media/eq2/temp/EQ2_001182_s.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a>(click the picture for a bigger version)Well however I didn't care about it until I tried to enter the shard of hate zone and ended up in the same error message as you guys have: <i>alert="E:liveeq2gamegamecommonclientGameWorld.cpp(2 49): Failed to load room volume lookup table for world shard_of_hate"</i>I realized the file (shard_of_hate.vpk) doesn't even exist, so I tried the following things:- Several Full Scans- Disabled the Firewall- Connected directly to the Internet- Used another ISP to connect- Uninstalled the whole game, cleared the registry, deleted all used folders and reinstalled it using the pure eq2.exe- Did several other uninstalls and reinstalls using the DVDHowever it didn't work, my patcher just ignored some of the vpks....to be a bit more specific, after a fresh installation from the eq2.exe and several Full Scans I had about 300 missing vpks.(And yes all my options are set to download everything instantly)There isn't any CRC error or something like this in my EverQuest2Patch.log. The Full Scan runs through all files and then tells my all files are up to date which isn't true at all.Well at this time I just wanted to play again, so I've patched my EQ2 on my own (which seriousely is a pain). As an example, gkscotty (poster above my post)he has the following missing files:- <span class="postbody">fprt_hood05.vpk- fprt_hood05_SG.vpk</span>[Edit: Links removed as they aren't needed anymore]All he will have to do, is to download those files manually and copy them to his paks folder. This will at least allow him to leave the newbie islands and access the Longshadow Alley in Freeport. However it doesn't resolve the problem as he will have to do this for each zone where the game crashes until all his vpks are up to date.As said above I did by copying all the vpks from a running client and hoped it won't happen again.Well it does, I tried to access the new Runnyeye on the testserver two days ago and my client crashed guess why..yes some missing vpks again.I analyzed my network traffic during patching and everything seems to work as it should. My client is connecting the Launchpad patcher, then authentificates itself, downloading an up to date eq2-update.xml.gz and then ignores this file completely.I've taken a look into the eq2-update.xml. Everything is listed in there, all the files, all the timestamps but my patcher just ignores this file and doesn't update the vpks at all. <img src="/eq2/images/smilies/c30b4198e0907b23b8246bdd52aa1c3c.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" width="15" height="15" />As it seems something happens during this step where the patcher is downloading the eq2-update.xml and then should patch the missing files. The problem is, that's a thing I can't analyze. Maybe there is a cached version of this files somewhere....well I don't know. But it's for sure I won't be able to update my vpks anymore until this problem is beeing resolved or I'm going to format my drive and reinstall WindowsXP.

You seem to be right Cyberlink. I downloaded both of those files and added them to paks manually. My Dark Elf can now zone into the area of Longshadow Alley with the dock, but upon running further up the alley I come to a arch with nothing behind it except the skybox and a long fall.Ran out for the hell of it, fell out of the world and was teleported back to the pier. No doubt more files are missing. Can anyone link me to a full list of the files I *should* have, so I can compare it to what I *do* have?EDIT: Screenshot of the arch in question - <a href="http://www.simpworks.com/steven/EQ2_000000.jpg" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.simpworks.com/steven/EQ2_000000.jpg</a>

yes as said, I'm pretty sure you will have several other files missing.you may take a look at this list, but please keep in mind this has been taken from a german installation.=> <a href="http://www.onlinegamer-portal.de/web/media/eq2/temp/eq2_missing_vpk.pdf" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">vpk_list as for GU44</a>You should at least have all the files listed in the "Zarkark"-row (without the german ones). As you can see there is a row called "Cyber Testserver" which is my testserver folder and the "Cyber Reinstall"-row shows all the missing files after a fresh installation of EQ2 followed by several Full Scans.

Not got time to check all of them right now, but after reading a few pages of your PDF it seems the missing files listed there line up perfectly with my missing ones so far. Exactly the same issue.I downloaded my patcher from the link on the Living Legend website.Cyberlink, do you get the "Play the Fae" title screen when you start the game?

I'd have to say this is almost definately an issue with the files the account itself is told to download, rather than an issue with the patcher. My girlfriend and I want to try out EQ2 during this free 60 days, so we downloaded the play the fae installer and let it download. Mine was fine, but hers suffered from this exact issue. She could log in fine and make a character on newbie island, but when she left for qeynos it would get the gamescene.cpp crash error. I ran a full file scan as it suggests a few times but it didn't change anything.I ended up logging into her installation of it with my own account. This time it started downloading new files.. Curious I cancelled the update and relogged back into my girlfriends account. It didn't update this time.. going straight to the play button on the patcher. I exited the patcher and relogged in with my own account again.. and it started to download the missing files again.. about 700megs worth and they seemed to be all for qeynos and freeport. Once this had finished I logged back in with my girlfriend account, and now it showed the Rise of Kunark loading screen (previously it had shown Play the Fae). She could load her character just fine now.I think the accounts must be randomly affected by this. My account had played the game previously with a paid subscription.. her's which suffered from the problem was an old trial account that had never ugraded to a paid account. However another old trial account I had did not suffer from this problem (it also wanted to download the missing files) so I don't think it's anything to do with being old trial accounts. The only difference with the two trial accounts is that one was from 2006.. the other from March 2008.Anyways I hope this help track down the source of this issue somehow <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />

So now there's problems with the patchers not realizing the correct files to download... I'm not sure if this would work but it might be a good idea if all the accounts that are bugged were changed to not have Trial data...

Good idea, but my account has never been a trial account as for example. However it is interesting to know it's not launchpad based <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />

So is there anywhere I can manually download the files from, individually or as an archive, as a temporary fix for this issue? If not, hope this gets sorted soon.

Hi there, got the same issue E:liveeq2gameclientsrcGameScene.cpp(4134): Failed to create zone. I'm on Play the Fae setup to try out the free 60-days since my account was an old 14days account.I've checked ofc the newest driver and version for directx. All the time same error. So please if u have any solution p.m. and after i read all posts here seems to be problems with trial version.Don't have any friend with full subscription to verify if that could be fixed.I'll hope that would be resolved soon.

It's almost certainly a patcher issue. I did some snooping and found that the patch manifest file coming from SOE does indeed contain a bunch of files that the patcher seems to be simply ignoring. So I downloaded the beta Station Launcher , which informed me that I need 4965 MB of space to update. This is good because it probably means that the beta Launcher is picking up whatever the classic one is missing; this is bad because I need 4.38 times as much space as I currently have before it will let me update. Are any of you using the beta Launcher? I suggest that somebody try it and report back. It'll probably take me a while to clear that much space.

I was having exactly the same problem, but by downloading the Beta version of the Station Launcher, managed to solve it.The new Station Launcher downloaded an extra 352 files to my PAKS directory. So the problem seems to be in the normal Launcher.Greetings

I can offer feed back... That alternative I tried, and failed. The problem is that the subscription data from the patcher isn't correct and it's therefore downloading data for the trial instead of downloading data for the full game.I Think I can make a chart for whats happening...Patcher Data Downloaded For Account A                                   Actual Data needed For Account A to play full gameRequired Trial Data                                                                     Required Trial DataAdventure Pack Data                                                                  Expansion DataOther Data                                                                                  Full Game Data                                                                                                    Adventure Pack Data                                                                                                    Other DataSo the patcher is receiving the wrong data and therefore downloading the wrong data and limiting the player whom is entitled to all of game to the trial area by a Incorrect subscription reading(or something like that....).

It didn't make any difference for me.Maybe notable - when you click Options > Preferences in the launcher, it lists "Everquest II" and "Everquest II: Play the Fae" as seperate games.EDIT: Uninstalling the game and trying to reinstall via the Station Launcher Beta specifically says it is installing PLAY THE FAE.

<p>So far this Living Legacy promotion feels like being invited to a party you thought would be fun, but receiving surprise buttseks instead. The tech support is useless, they just reply with form letters asking me to re-sodder some chips on my on motherboard and such.</p><p>All SOE has to do is bump up the the re-activated Play the Fae accounts to full regular accounts. They've given out the game + expansions already with the promotion anyway, why treat the accounts differently?</p>

Well, took the plunge and ordered a subscription online. After upgrading, the patcher obediently downloaded the files I needed. I can now log in to the missing zones. This is definitely an issue with trial accounts bumped up for Living Legacy. (except in the case of Cyberlink who probably wants to pursue this further...)The description of Living Legacy on it's main web page reads<ul><li><h1>Free Game Play Time</h1> All inactive subscribers (in good standing) and trial <i>EQII</i> accounts can play at no cost until July 31, 2008.  </li><li><h1>Free <i>Rise of Kunark</i> All-In-One Pack</h1> Access the latest content; keep a complimentary digital copy of this compilation version of the game when you convert to a monthly subscription plan for <i>EQII</i>.</li></ul>This gave me the impression that trial accounts would be able to access the <b>entire</b> game and not just the starter areas. If this is not the case, then you need to do two things!1) Clarify on the website that trial accounts cannot leave the newbie areas.2) Prevent the ship captain from taking you to Queynos/Freeport/wherever, so that trial account player's characters are not trapped in limbo. For those who want a *really* quick fix, subscribe. You have to give credit card details, but the webpage said I would not be charged until late August.

I was able to duplicate and correct the error this weekend. It is an account issue. For those that have already PMd me I have already started to apply the fix, and will PM you as I get them corrected.  As hinted at by others, if you have another full fledged account, you can log into that first, and then into your other account and that will allow you to get the proper files as well.If you have not already done so, please PM me your station name and include the subject of "Can't leave beginner area"Thanks for your patience guy/gals.

Seems to be resolved for me. Haven't tried all the crashy areas yet but I can run around Haven just fine, and it was only an extra gig or so of data after patching with the classic launcher (I suppose the 4.9GB number from before included all the optional stuff I forgot to turn off in the beta launcher). Thanks for the fix!EDIT: Bad timing for the loss.
