The launcher works correctly and patches, but when I click play, it says its launching but nothing happens, I've checked my processes and it says eq2 is running, any suggestions?

Greetings,

Do you already have the game set to run as administrator and in compatibility mode? If not, follow the steps below to see if that clears up the issue.

1. Right click on the program launch icon2. Left click on "Properties".3. In the new window that pops up click on the "Compatibility" tab.4. In the "Compatibility Mode" area check the box next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"5. In the drop down list make certain that "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)" is selected.6. Under "Privilege Level" make certain that the box next to "Run this program as administrator" is checked.7. Click on "Apply" then click on "Ok".8. Double click on the program launch icon.

You may also want to check if the game has been added to your firewall's exception list, assuming you have a firewall.

I've talked with another tech in the office and he says he used to get that problem running vista until he reinstalled Direct X 9.0c. I would advise you to use the link below to reinstall that application and see if that corrects the issue.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...;DisplayLang=en

I installed the file specified and still yeilded no results,

I'm really confused with what could be happening, sorry if this is a bit of a bother =/

Assuming you have a firewall enabled... You may want to remove the game and launchpad from your firewall's exception list and then add them back on. Disabling the firewall have the same results.

We'll also want to make sure that a background application isn't conflicting with the game. Follow the steps below to disable unnecesary start up applications.

1. Select the START button.

2. Select RUN, then type in "msconfig" (for Vista, type msconfig in the search bar at the bottom of the Start Menu)

3. Press OK

4. Select the STARTUP tab.

5. In the list, uncheck all boxes EXCEPT for SCANREGISTRY and SYSTEM TRAY. If you use Windows XP, please note that SCANREGISTRY and SYSTEM TRAY will not be listed - just uncheck the entire list.

6. Hit apply and then OK. Restart the computer and try the game again.

If you are still experiencing the same issue, please reply back.

The problem is most certainly due to Vista's "security" (just preface the word security with crippling...).

I had the exact same issues with my EQ2 that was installed/patched via the Station Launcher. The only way I got mine to work was to move the EQ installation folder from C:Program FilesSony to some other location. I think Vista has everything under C:program files under extreme lockdown. For example, the attributes on the Sony folder were set to Read Only and I COULD NOT CHANGE them even though I had UAC completely turned off.

My suggestion:

Move (not copy, but MOVE) your eq2 installation to a location other than C:Program Files (for me this was a completely different Hard Drive).

Re-start the launcher, and select EQ2. Once it figures out the EQ2 stuff is missing (which it should be, since you moved it), it will should give you an opportunity to change the location. Point it to the location you moved your EQ2 files to. It should then do a full scan then launch successfully.

*curses Vista*

The right click the newly created shortcut, go to compatiblity tab and set to run as administrator.

The game will coexist with Vista and the UAC, just takes a few extra steps to get it configured correctly unlike XP

Easier still: Sony ought to fix their software so that it functions correctly from the default installation folder.

Naw! That'd be too easy!

Again!

After today's patch, EQ2 won't launch from the Station Launcher.

Click on the "Launch Game" button. Station Launcher minimizes itself. EverQuest2.exe listed in the running processes, but nothing happens ever!

[Removed for Content]???

I have tried the workaround mentioned in the referenced post and relocated my EQ2 directory to my D drive. I have updated Direct X today from Microsoft, done a clean boot, reinstalled the game, and have administrator and compatability settings to XP sp2 and run as administrator. I have deleted anti virus temporarily and shut off all firewalls and client still will not load from Launcher, directly running the program from folder or from shortcut on desktop. Task manager shows it as a running process at 50% cpu, but the client will not open. I have let it spin its wheels for over an hour.

Prior to yesterday the game would not open through launcher, but would open from shortcut to .exe However as of today (post 12/3/08 patch) I am unable to open the client in any way

Vista 64-bit, Intel Core Duo 2.26, Nvidia 9800M GTS, 4 GB Ram,

Help!?

I get the exact same problem.

System: Vista 64bit, Q6600, 4gb DDR8400, 280GTX 1028mb.

I goto the Launcher, click EQ2 and nothing happens yet there is the process running in the background... I tried moving the installation folder to another location but it doesn't prompt me with changing the directory next time I launch, it just downloads it all again!

I have UAC turned off, so no Administration issues. I've tried running in XP mode and I don't have any Firewall/AV enabled. I've tried making all files not Read-Only too.

Yet nothing has resolved it. Please help as this is the first time I have played EQ2 and so far I can't even start it! Waste of money at the moment...!

Wow, where did you find this old thread?

I am going to lock it down as it is quite old

However, if you are having an issue, I would suggest reading through the *** Read before posting *** post to see what you info you can give from your end to help diagnose this issue. I would start a new post to avoid confusion A lot has changed in this game since the post began.

The first things to look at would be if your windows is updated completely.
