I just got the email from Sony about the Living Legacy and thought I would start up both my EQ and my EQ2 accounts again. I have the original EQ2 DVD and the EQ Plat disks. So I installed both on my vista machine.

I remember the patcher being really slow but sheesh...com'on. I have been watching the network performance monitor and the downloads now for 2 days. The patchers seem to download very fast initially then slow to a crawl. My network performance has been between 0 and 12 Mbs. I need to cancel the downloads often and restart to get things moving again. I've seen large files that inch along for 10 minutes and then I cancel the download and restart. That same file then takes seconds. The next big file takes 10 minutes.

I've cancelled file downloads when the progress bar is almost complete because the network performance is at 0 for 10+ minutes. Then once I restart the download the file downloads in seconds. Sometimes I have to cancel and download 2 or 3 times.

I had like 20 minutes left on my EQ2 patcher for the last hour or so. So I stopped it and unchecked all the "extra" content. It's now up to 5 hours again. I am on a 10+ Mbs connection.

Before anyone replies about firewalls, antivirus, new installs, updated drivers, or god-forbid defragging...I've checked all that. I've never known the patcher to actually work like every other patcher out there...basically fast. It is horribly slow. Also, I have yet to see any CSR give a resonable explanation to this behavior.

I occasionally re-activate my accounts and I always need to start from scratch. I have seen this behavior with the patcher EVERY time. I also have 3 separate locations I try to download from: work, hotel, home. All 3 locations suck equally. Given these 3 locations that I am testing from, the likelihood that it is my connection is very small.

I have also read countless posts here and elsewhere of people have the EXACT same problem. Has Sony officially addressed this issue?

It sounds like you're downloading the game just fine the Vista's security features are blocking the patcher from actually updating. I'd advise following the steps below since that will usually correct the issue.1. Right click on the program launch icon2. Left click on "Properties".3. In the new window that pops up click on the "Compatibility" tab.4. In the "Compatibility Mode" area check the box next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"5. In the drop down list make certain that "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)" is selected.6. Under "Privilege Level" make certain that the box next to "Run this program as administrator" is checked.7. Click on "Apply" then click on "Ok".8. Double click on the program launch icon.Sometimes the Windows Vista security software can interfere with the patching progress of our games. In this situation, it might be Windows UAC (User Account Control) that is not allowing the game to patch correctly. For the purposes of security, you will only want this feature disabled for the purposes of patching and should re-enable it after the issue has been resolved. Type msconfig in the search box on the Start Menu and press enter on your keyboard. 2. Click the tools tab in the System Configuration box. 3. Scroll down the list and highlight ‘Disable UAC’ then click Launch. 4. Restart your computer. 5. Run the patcher. You can enable UAC by following the steps above but highlight ‘Enable UAC’Let us know if the issue persists, though that procedure will usually correct it.Welcome back to Norrath and enjoy the game!

I've had these exact same slow download speeds on XP as well. This is actually the first time I have tried to run either EQ or EQ2 on Vista. Even though I first saw these problems on XP, I tried your suggestions and have the exact same problem.

I also turn off UAC first thing so that isn't a problem.

I'm now at the hotel and EQ won't patch at all. EQ2 is moving along as slowly as before.

How long should a 10Mb connection take to patch from a basic install from DVD or CD?

Is there any other way to get the patch files outside of the launcher so I can download them elsewhere and manually patch? It's already 2 days on the download and at this rate it's going to be a few more days.

After double checking with senior techs, it sounds like the hotel is throttling you. Which makes sense as you can download 1 file immediately and then the next is slow, you cancel, and then it downloads it again quickly. You may want to see if they are indeed throttling or shaping traffic.Currently we have no alternate method of downloading patches.

I just received the invite back and i'm not sure why but my download is doing the same. Im using XP Professional.

The first file or 2 flies along at a decent pace but invariably the download slows to a crawl.

It first calculates around 4hours..then I come back it says 10+...just now it said 24+ hours????

If I cancel and restart the speed is back but I cant sit here doing this for next 4+ hours.

If this is your idea of coaxing me back i'm not impressed yet.

Please make sure that any firewalls have EQ2.exe added to the allowed lists, that the proper ports are opened, and understand that thousands of players are re-downloading as well for the Living Legacy promotion.PORT Informationhttp://help.station.sony.com/cgi-bi...p?p_faqid=12293 A TCP connection is initiated to patch.station.sony.com at port 7000. A UDP connection is initiated to port range 3016-3021 and 9700-9703. Hope to see you in game soon!

There is no throttling at the hotel.

The file download scenario I mentioned before was when I was at work on a completely open network.

This is really painful trying to get these downloads. EQ is at a total standstill and it still says I have like 5 hours left for EQ2. It said I had around 20 minutes left at one point during the day as well. I have no idea how long I really have, I do know that the download speeds vary thru the network performance monitor from about 200Kbps to 12Mbps...mostly at the sub 1Mbps though.

This is what I have seen in the past as well on my xp machine.

I am at this point on an xp machine with all firewalls disabled, It will start with 4 hours to go then will just stall out and say 24+ to go this is annoying to say the least.

To a certain extent these download issues are probably caused by the influx of traffic we are currently getting. The living legacy promotion has drawn quite a few people back to our games and they are all downloading/updating at once. These problems are temporary and should be resolved shortly.

to an extant ive always had this problem with eq2 even back before i quit the last time, im am unsure if the network is the same that operates the eq1 patch server but that patched in under 4 hours from anniversary this is taking already 5 hours from EoF and says it will be at least another 6 to 28+ at times.

I agree. I've had to reinstall my machine a number of times while I was playing EQ or EQ2 and have seen the same behavior in the past way before this promotion. In fact, I've never seen it work any other way. Earlier today EQ2 said I had 20 minutes left. I'm now at 10 hours.

EQ is totally stalled and I cannot get a number of files so it just sits there timing out.

I'm currently downloading a file at 3Kbps on a 5Mbs connection...

If I cancel and restart...it will go to 4Mbs for the first file and then drop back down. I pretty much have to cancel and start the download after every file is downloaded.

heya I posted on another thread but same issue here. patcher is taking forever. I know its not my connection, port configuration etc. The patcher is just really slow.

I thought this would be painless and quick due to the recent invite to come back and peep out the changes etc. I cant even play AoC due to login bugs after their last patch.

I REALLY dont want to go back to wow. Hope these people pull it together /cry /cry /cry
