Miladian seems to have it right. Let us know if that corrects the issue, Glenolas.

Please open up the start menu and in the search bar at the bottom, type the following line: msinfo32Once you open that up the very first window should have a line that says "Version" immediately below "OS Name". Could you possibly provide the contents of that field? The game doesn't seem to think you have the most up to date version and I believe thats where it checks for the version number.

Like I stated in my post, I had the exact same problem, Vista didn't show that it had sp1 installed. EQ2 didn't see that it was installed so it gives you the message. Also after I downloaded and installed the standalone sp1, Vista now shows that it has sp1 installed and the popup message from EQ2 went away. This was after running the Windows update several times, and it telling me that there were no more updates available. I found this support KB article on MS's website which might help answer why you don't see the update as being available. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/948343

In one of my machines, the driver as for the raid array that I used for data storage. The company had been out of business for a couple of years but the XP driver worked under Vista. Ended up having to replace the raid card, once I did that SP1 showed up in the Windows Update window.

One of the complaint's I have about the delivery method of SP1 - the windows update does not give enough information on why something is not there. Point in case, I knew SP1 was available, but had no indication that my raid driver was preventing it from being installed on the one machine. Would have been nice if they would have siad something.

Glenolas,Assuming you have Service pack 1 installed, it should say so on the line that tells you the version. The knowledge base article Miladian posted gives you the possible causes and how to resolve each problem. I haven't witnessed any problems from simply installing from the standalone, but you may want to go through that knowledge base article and find out why its happening on your computer.Once service pack 1 has been installed one way or another, you should not receive that error message any more.
