Or better yet, how can I easily restore defaults to my registery using regedit? Looking to undo everything the virus did. System restore will not work.

Maybe this link will help you:http://www.pctools.com/guides/registry/detail/543/It shows which registry key that controls this.

How do I restore the settings to what they were before the virus affected them? That's really what I'm after....

Can't seem to create certain short cuts like putting "My Computer" back on my desktop....

Installed the linked program, ran it, but did not fix the problem.....

Appearantly I need to purchase the full version....

If anyone can offer some helpful information on how to(as easily as possible) restore things to the way they were before the virus hit, it would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: Like a "restore defaults" button somewhere?

I think it will be hard to know what the virus did exactly.System Restore should take it back how it was. From my experience and personal preference I would reinstall the whole thing. Viruses can compromise your account which is a very bad thing to experience.

Is it possible to reinstall windows without losing files? And if so how exactly do I do it? I have had to reformat my hard drive once, really not looking forward to doing it again. So if I can just reinstall windows without losing all/most of my files, that'd be great.

Tried system restore, did not work.

My background/wallpaper also stays white, even though it appears I'm able to change it as normal. There is also "VIRUS ALERT" to the right of my clock on the task bar.

Can anyone help? Please?

Is it up to date and have you tried using it to remove the virus?Sadly, removing a virus can get pretty complicated at times. If you can get your virus scanner to identify it then you may be able to find the steps to fix it online. As others have mentioned you may want to roll your computer back to a restore point, assuming you have not disabled that feature.
