I have two computers next to me,a Macbook Pro running Windows Vista x86 (32) with an 8600GT M 256 and a Core 2 Duo 2.4ghz with 4gigs of ram, running on Balanced/High quality at 40+ FPS at any given time.No lag anywhere or hitching ... anything.I have a desktop running Windows Vista x64 with two 8800GTX (tried with and without SLI) and I have very low FPS.The PC configuration is2x XFX 8800GTX using 174.16 driverWindows Vista Ultimate x64Intel Core 2 Duo e67004gb Corsair DDR2 800Asus P5N32-SLI Premium 590i motherboardIn some areas, I have incredibly high FPS, but these are primarily houses, and areas i'm alone at. If I enter East Freeport i'm down to 15 FPS no matter what I do, and considering that when I had an AMD FX-57 with a Nvidia 7900GTX I had 40+ FPS in town, I don't see how I can have such low FPS on a "superior" system that plays Age of Conan at 120 FPS and Crysis on Very High at 25-35 FPS but gets killed by Everquest 2.What are some settings or tweaks I may want to try to give myself the same performance as my laptop or the performance I should be getting?I have tried XP, however I am using both Windows XP Professional x64 Edition and Windows Vista Ultimate x64 Edition. Is this an issue with 64-bit or graphics card? processor? My G15 tells me that my CPU usage is around 74% on Extreme in FreeportI'm getting close to canceling my subscription because i'm tired of playing a game that lags so much and I have to turn it down to the "WoW settings" to be able to enjoy it, its not fun to get 15 FPS while competition gets 120 FPS

I'm not sure if you've done this already, but you'll probably want to enable 'Reuse vertex buffers' in the performance options. People with that specific card usually see substantial performance gains when running in that mode. Let us know if that helps the problem.

I have enabled it.No real noticeable difference in framerate.I see less hitching, but my main concern is framerate.I shouldn't have to play on Extreme Performance to get above 30 FPS in freeport on this system. I -should- be getting 90 FPS, but i'll settle for 45 As I said, performance is a big issue for me. I've sold my old computer, and my new one doesn't play to my expectations and i'm not downgrading when I can play other great games at amazing speeds.(By the way, i'm 100% possitive I don't have any spyware or adware slowing down my computer, I maintain my PCs very well and am always using the newest drivers. I have performance problems with my 8800 only in Everquest 2, and somewhat in Lord of the Rings Online)

I've looked through all the information you've provided and I don't see any reason why your desktop wouldn't be performing as well as your laptop. You may want to post your Dxdiag/Msinfo results so we can investigate further.

I'm posting it right now.I do play on Extreme Quality, though I do turn shadows off in certain areas. The problem is that theres almost no frame different on Extreme vs Balanced so its not a graphics card issue. I gain about 10 FPS to about 25 tops on balanced in EFP.How do I post my dxdiag? it tells me i'm exceeding my size whenever I post it

I installed Windows XP (32-bit) and I still get like 17 FPS in East Freeport and other areas. On Balanced I get about 25 FPS but this is still unacceptable on a computer with an 8800GTX and a Core 2 Duo. (Well my specs are posted above). So I doubt its a 64-bit issue.I didn't have any performance problems when I was playing on a 7900GTX.The XP install is a fresh install, all drivers updated, running service pack 3 with no other programs other than the Station Launcher and Everquest 2

Honestly, the numbers you're describing sound about right for your system. I'm currently running the game on extreme quality on a comparable system and getting around 10-20fps in Qeynos harbor with several people around me. Performance should be quite a bit better in most areas outside of town, but the main town zones can cause a performance drop depending on how many people are around.

The comparable system I'm referring to is running Vista, an E6850, an 8800GT, and 3GB of RAM.

You can probably get better performance by tweaking your OS and your graphics settings to trim down things you find less important, but towns will probably slow you down somewhat when running on extreme quality

Well, I honestly don't feel that these numbers are acceptable. Why should a $3000 computer in 2008 get 15 FPS in a game from 3-4 years ago?on BALANCED settings this is what I get. (Balanced vs Extreme seems to make little difference except in hitching, not FPS).I believe I got higher FPS with a 7900GTX than with the 8800GTX, and if every other game I play i'm hitting 60-200 FPS (LOTRO has gotten up to 220 FPS in houses) than why am I getting 10% of that in EQ2.If I can get 20 FPS on my laptop I should be getting 50 FPS on my desktop easily. Point is, if I can play this game at 20 FPS in 2004, then if I buy a computer in 2006/7 and have the setup posted on the previous page, I shouldn't still get 20 FPS. Wouldn't you agree with that?I

There are a few posts around the forums here that help explain what the issue is. Recently, Cassea posted an explanation which may shed some light on the subject for you. I will have to find his post and link it here.

well i got foxconn which i gotta say is a pile crap mobo but good as a replacement til somthing ,better lacksbios options like maping ram to make use of all 4 gig ram or other adjustments but has decent over clock options in bios/ windows but i manage to get some decent performance in eq 2 , thou i had to do a lot work arounds for no thanks to the crap mobo and vista 945P7AA -8KS2Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) D CPU 3.00GHz (3003 MHz)Operating System: Microsoft Windows Vista x64 (Service Pack 1)DirectX version: 10.0 GPU processor: GeForce 8800 GTForceWare version: 175.16Total available graphics memory: 1919 MBDedicated video memory: 512 MBSystem video memory: 0 MBShared system memory: 1407 MBVideo BIOS version: 62.92.1f.00.08IRQ: 16Bus: PCI Express x16Sata 2 500gig seagate split 5x125 gigs 4 gigs oc 800 mhz < crapped out at 667 cause mobo> sighthou i don't have access to all the ram cause the mobo eq 2 runs pretty sweet with all eye candy GET FREE RAM PRO !! works on all windows it's a ram freeing program with ram Compresstion and it tweaks ram on the flyi use it to keep eq 2 in check while playing so's not ot run outta ram, leaking ect theres a lotta goodys in it also http://www.yourwaresolutions.com/check your video card control panel theres a option to multi thread i got that on, and render a few frames ahead can try that hope it help

The game runs like crap on Vista. Turning on the foliage for instance made my Quad 2.66GHz/9600GT card go from 40+ FPS (almost everything maxed) to 18 FPS. I flipped to my XP dual-boot and now have consistently 30+ with more shadows and full range of grass on half density, regardless of zone. (city or wild)

to the OP -Double check to make sure that reuse vertex buffers are enabled, and restart the eq2 client. 2nd, disable targetting rings. Also, I'm using driver 175.16 on my 2x8800gt, with manual SLI settingsMake sure if you are changing drivers to use a driver cleaner program to completely remove the old drivers. Search on www.guru3d.com for the download and instructions.Open Nvidia control panel, go to manage 3d settings (you must have advanced options enabled), click on program settings. wait a minute while nvidia control panel populates its list with what you have on your PC, it may look like its locks up, but it doesn't, just wait it out.. Find eq2.The settings are as follows-Ansiotropic Filtering-16xAntialiasing Mode Enhance the application settingAntialiasing Setting - 4xMulti-Display/Mixed-GPU acceleration - Single display performance modeTexture Filtering - Trilinear Optimization - OffSLI performance mode - NVIDIA Recommended(SLI)Leave every other setting not mentioned here alone. I'm about 71.6% sure that setting these quality settings in nvidia's control panel forces your video cards to actually use themselves, bypassing eq2's quality settings that run 100% on the CPU.....And CPU rendered graphics are for the FAIL with the powerhouse GPU's available today.Maybe its because I play on a low pop server, but I have 60 FPS constantly (its capped at 60, won't go above it for whatever reason), and running at custom (everything maxed, including shadows, no bloom). During raids in like VP I'm getting 20ish-30ish FPS, with 8 maximum quality particle effects per player.I had the same issue as you, terrible performance, and the reuse vertex buffers and targetting rings did the trick for me.My specs are-e8400 3.0 ghz Dual Core8GB Patriot Viper DDR2 @ 10672x8800GT (G92, 512MB) - Driver Version 175.16EVGA 780i SLI Motherboard1680x1050 ResolutionVista Ultimate, 64 bitHopefully you get it sorted out, I feel your pain. Its wayyyy passed time sony upgrades this game to actually use some features of new systems, and not cripple them.

EQ2 only uses one CPU core and many of the graphics functions are run on your CPU instead of your video card. What this means is that people may actually be "downgrading" when they upgrade... at least in respect to EQ2.The reason is this...Example:System #11x core CPU running at 2500mhz with XPSystem #24x core CPU running at 2000mhz with VistaEQ2 only sees one core so in this respect all EQ2 sees is that you just went from a 2500mhz computer to a 2000mhz computer. Add to this that EQ2 is an older XP game and as such takes about a 15% hit when being run under Vista so do the math...2500mhz to 2000mhz means a 20% drop in speedXP to Vista means a 15% drop in speedSo in this case you spend a ton of $$$ upgrading your system and see a 35% drop in EQ2 performance. The reason I do not list your Video Card is that under EQ2 Video Cards mean much less than other games because so much of the actual video calculations is being done on your CPU instead of the video card. The reason, I suspect, is that back when they were designing the Star Wars Galaxy game engine that EQ2 modified to use, video cards were not as advanced and the trend was for the speed (MHZ) of CPU's to kep going up and up.So Sony "guessed" that CPU speed would outdistance video card performance. What happened is that CPU upgrades came to a brick wall which is heat and they had to move to multi-cores instead of endlessly getting faster. EQ2 is not the only game that has this issue... EQ1 has the same issue and I'm not sure about WoW but the graphics for WoW and EQ1 are much less than EQ2 so they issue is not as bad with those games.Games Like Lotro and AOC were designed for Vista and multi-core CPU and designed to use "all" of your video card. When your CPU see's EQ2 coming it runs for the hills I love EQ2. I have a lifetime subscription to Lotro and I could play that game for free but I pay monthly to play EQ2 because it's more fun. Sure Lotro's graphics put EQ2 to shame and it runs at 60fps vs 25fps in EQ2 but EQ2 is still much more fun IMHO.Any posts I make that are taken as being critical of SOE are only made because I love EQ2 and I wish that the beancounters at SOE (the $$$-men) will allocate the $$$ to allow those running EQ2 to update the game and keep it current.Rant off -JB
