Give a try on power cycling your modem and router (unplug the power for 20 seconds). I would also try the VISTA fix in my signature.I have yet to see a compatibility mode switch correct this issue.

ok lets try and experiment

1. Make a directroy off the root called games - so the structure would be c:games

2. In windows explorer, locate the Everquest II directory, right click and select copy

3. drill down to the c:games directory and paste the everquest II directory from the previous step inside it

4. once that has completed, locate teh EQ2.exe application, right click and send to desktop as a shortcut

On the newly created shortcut

1. Right click on the icon, select properties2. select compatiblity tab3. set to Windows XP-SP2, then click on Run as Administrator4. Apply all changes5. Browse to the Everquest 2 folder in Windows Explorer6. Right click on the folder, select properties7. Click on the security tab8. Click the edit button9. Select users, and under the allow column click full control10. click ok

After you have done this try launching the game and see what happens. Also verify that the userid you log on to the computer with is a member of the administrators group.

Hi there, i've recently started playing EQ2 again and am having the same problem.

I believe it is a network problem as I currently am trying to play at Uni using the university's internet. However at home i do not have the 'lost connection to server' error after 'creating entities' has tried to load. The uni internet is connected through a proxy, however i am able to bypass the proxy in order to play online games such as World of Warcraft. I have Vista and have run EQ2 through administrator yet the problem still persists. If you have any information on how i could get EQ2 running again i would be very greatful.

I'm not too sure if i can bypass the router and connect straight to the modem, as I live on campus and my Internet port comes straight from the wall so im not sure if there's any way i could. Although im going to try get an IT guy who works here to see if they know how to bypass the router. Also is there any dignosis check i could do to see if is the actual net that is preventing me from playing EQ2?

I'm sorry to resurrect this old thread, but I recently got a new computer on Vista. I too am now getting the same error, and have tried everything mentioned in this thread. Every time I log in, it gets me to the point of "Creating Entities" on the way to the Character Select screen. Then it pauses for a good 30-60 seconds and finally goes to the screen, with the message "Lost Connection to Server!" and I'm forced to exit. It doesn't freeze or anything, it just disconnects me. To rule out a router/connection problem, I tried it on my old computer (running XP as opposed to Vista) and it loaded up fine.

Has anyone found a solution to this yet? I waited patiently through the many hours of downloading to play this game on my new rig and everything I've tried has failed. Please! Anyone! Help!

I'm trying to help SABeefeater there with this issue, and I'm at his house with my Vista laptop. On the same wireless network, EQ2 runs fine on my laptop, but his PC still has these issues. He even tried his account on my laptop and got into the game just fine. So, it would appear to be an issue with EQ2, I'm guessing the launcher isn't downloading certain files.

Would be nice if tech support could actually find a fix for this.

Thanks for the reply and tip Goggins. Unfortunately the video card driver and Vista are fully up to date and still getting stuck at the "creating entities" stage. I know I am pushing my luck here anyways because it is a mobile card [NVIDIA GEFORCE 9500M GS], but it runs 3ds Max so I figured I'd give EQ2 a whirl. I have eliminated most other possibilities because I can take the whole installation and run it just fine off my six year old dell laptop - but it's just so cold and lonely playing in the garage out of a carboard case. Anyway, I've gotten an acquired taste for blaming things on Vista so that's where I'm directing my ire right now; but I'm intrigued at your allusion to a graphics problem due to the stage things are hanging at. When I'm done complaining about Vista I might try some graphics card tweaks. There's something mildly stimulating about playing with the conformant texture clamp...don't you agree?

Update: In my case at least this is confirmed as a video card issue. Best of luck to the rest of you stuck in this predicament. May your solution be inexpensive and your game time worth the trouble.

Wussup, im new to Eq2, but i used to play Eq1 back in the day, recently bored of WoW, now i installed this and did the 14 day trial. i installed everything, i click play eq2, i log in to my station name, and right away when it loads the servers or something it says " Lost connection to server! " and then " Exit " so i have to click exit, and it wont let me do anything. so pretty much the same issue everyone on this fourm is having issues with aswell. thank you.

I was able to convince my mom to play with the "recruit a friend" program. We're having the exact same problems with her laptop, only she's running Windows XP, not Vista. So this may have nothing to do with Vista at all. I'll tell you if we find a fix.

Greetings,

For those having this problem with an Nvidia graphics card, are you also using a motherboard produced by Nvidia? I know at least some Nvidia motherboards come with a built in firewall. If you're completely removing the old Nvidia drivers when doing the graphics driver reinstall, then it's possible that you're removing the firewall as well. That might be why it seems like a connection issue but responds to video card fixes.

I solved my problem. The Tech Support people said :

After looking at the information that was sent, I would recommend that you turn your windows vista firewall back on. Vista tends to block more when their firewall is turned off. Once you turn it back on, please remove the Station Launcher and the games from the exceptions list. Then re add the Station Launcher and the Games to the exceptions list. Please try those steps and make sure you run the station launcher as admin when you launch it.

I did this and I am now able to get into the game. No more does the creating entity phase scare me! Mwuahahaha!
