I've been playing this game since release. Not the entire time, but on and off. I've used it with 5 different computers with parts from both sides of the spectrum ranging from AMD to Intel, ATI to Nvidia and several different motherboards.Nearly since release I've had problems with the good ol' "out of memory" issue. Back then, it was understandable since I only had a gig of ram at the time. But, ironic enough, it seems that with each newer computer I try to run the game on, it becomes more and more unstable. The faster the computer gets, the more EQ2 seems to crash with the memory error...Anyways, here is my system setup as of now.Core 2 Duo e6750 conroe @ 2.6ghzBFG Geforce 9800 GX2Asus P5N-E 650i SLi motherboard4GB Kingston HyperX DDR2 800Sound Blaster X-fi xtreme gamerAntec 900 gaming case32-bit Vista (planning to install 64bit soon so I can use all of my memory)etc..I have a pretty decent system though as you can see, and yet still, 4 years later....I still get the memory error, even with 4GB of memory. Even with the settings on Balanced to High, it still happens...This machine runs Crysis maxed out at 40 frames per second steady.....and a game thats 4 years old still performs worse then a state-of-the-art first person shooter...The out of memory error will just NOT go away, no matter what I do, no matter what system I run it on, and no matter which operating system I use...Now, I know sony likes to stick to their classic reply of blaming it on our hardware. And they can stay in denial as long as they like, but it's become obvious now that with our current hardware, this outdated directx 9 game should run flawlessly. Can't cover it up with the "it's your hardware" reply anymore guys.....that was 3 years ago.The fact of the matter is, this game is only programmed to recognize 2GB of memory. If you have all the eye candy turned on, the game crashes with a memory error every time because it will hit it's 2GB allocation limit A game with this many special effects and fireworks needs way more memory allocation then that. This game can use 3GB easily when at 90% of being maxed out.The kicker here is that even with my eye candy turned mostly down, I still get the memory error. And I have 3GB of available ram....You don't have to re-write the entire game engine to allow it to use more memory. That's a bad excuse. And anyone who says that is just saying it to quiet the crowd. This problem could be easily fixed with a few months of testing and tweaking and a nice sized patch....but like most things it's just neglected and ignored.Time to fix this guys..
