View Full Version : Confucius says confused..

Hi fellow monks, as outlined in my previous thread, I have recently switched across from Bare Fists and a STR focused AA setup. I have reassigned my AA points to INT, WIS and AGI, and have been trying out the following weps:

- Knuckle Duster

- Star of Morning's Glory,

- Deklium Battering Cudgel

- Rex Bone Mallet (2H)

A couple of things have me confused:

Firstly, when I equip the KD my damage reading for primary drops to 174-323, from 340's-640's for the SoMG which has an identical unequipped rating. Why is that? The KD has a 'fists' description so does this mean it is treated by the game identically the same as bare fists, and if so will relentless punches in the STR AAine work?

And secondly, when i equip the 2 handed wep I seem to take more damage, although my avoidance and mitigation stats are almost identical. Note that this is purely subjective as I have no parsing or other accurate measuring system, it does seem to be consistently the case. Is there any known reason for this, or is it all a figment of my creative monk imagination??

Finally, does anyone know of existing posts or websites with detailed info on the comparative merits of wep and AA options?

Thanks again for reading and (hopefully) responding....

Cheers.

I'd suggest you use the Deklium cudgel primary and the star of morning's glory off hand. They both ahve 4.0 delays and high DR. Plus the star has a nice haste effect and proc. The knuckle duster will not work with the STR line. It's probably just your imagination that you're taking more damage with the rex bone mallet. The best place for info is likely this forum. Generally, if you're seeking the highest DPS you'll want to invest in the AGI, WIS, and INT lines as you already have. There's not much more to it.
Don't forget you also take damage from riposte.

The odd thing is I'd assume a 2h weapon hits less than two 1h weapons, so you ought to get less riposte damage, unless ripostes only come from main hand weapons.

It may be you have different gear that causes stuns etc that affects damage, especially grouped (e.g. with a coercer who stuns a lot).

Anyway, would be interested for any input from someone who's studied riposte damage in detail...

Around the time of DoF release they adjusted riposte rates to be fairly equal between 2handers and dual wield. So riposte damage shouldn't be too much of a difference. This was an unfortunate change IMO, because it removed one of the inherent advantages of 1handers that would have made them more attractive.
