View Full Version : Questions about level 28 Brigand

Hi guys:

I played a ranger on EQ 1 from 1999 until about 2003, and I recently had some extra time and began playing EQ 2 as a brigand. The game is quite fun-- easier and not quite as impressive as EQ was in 1999, but that's because it was so incredibly new, I guess.

In any event, I have been two questions:

1. Can anyone here recommend any good armor quests for someone that will primarily be working alone-- I did the darklight wood armor quest that was given by the Druid in the tower, but that chestpiece is getting old now, and should be replaced. Just wondered if people had advice on an armor quest that I could do. I am not into crafting stuff, and I don't have the money to buy player-made armor from the broker.

2. How do people feel about the usefulness of evacuation, given that the penalty for death is so small in this game? And I will illustrate my point with a short anecdote: I was with a cleric in Fallen Gate recently, and I evaced when we were about to die. When we were back at the entrance, the guy, knowing about my experience in EQ 1 with the whole painful corpse retrieval thing, says to me something to the effect: "Why'd you bother with evac? It takes longer to recover from a near death than it does from a death, and the death penalty is so minimal that it is better just to play to the death, since maybe one of us might have pulled it out, even though the other died." So I got to thinking that maybe he is right at our level: better to play to the death, since there is no corpse retrieval anyway. Does the death penalty get more expensive later on, making evac more valuable?

1. Honestly, there really aren't much in the way of quests that give worthwhile gear as a reward in that level range (at least not that you can be reasonably expected to do on your own). At one time there was a series of armor quests for level 20's but they really require a group and very few people actually do them any more. Your best bet is probably to check the broker occasionally for gear that would be an upgrade to what you have now and is reasonable priced. Don't buy player made mastercrafted armor from the broker - its usually very overpriced. Buy the rare (Steel for 20's, feysteel for 30's) and find an armorer to make it for you. Really, though, you don't NEED mastercrafted anything. Also, for your money problems, I think that at this stage of the game, if you are a relatively new player you need to learn to like harvesting. You can get good money for selling roots and metals on the broker and that will help you stay geared up.2. You can please some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time... A couple things to remember about evac'ing - in an outdoor zone, using evac can actually take you to a place much further away than the place you revive at, meaning that because you evac'd rather than dying, it takes you longer to get back to where you were. I can't think of any indoor indoor zones in which that is true, but remember - there is feign death and a few other quarks that can prevent a total wipe... or another player could walk by and be nice enough to rez the group. Rebuffing, rez sickness and armor repair fees are a minor inconvenience. Going from the entrance of a dungeon back to a point deep in the dungeon is a major inconvenience. Death penalties are not really severe at any point in the game. Personally I don't even keep evac on a hotbar I use regularly because I am always afraid of having an accident with it. I just bust it out when I need a quick shortcut back to a zone entrance.I hope this helps - have fun and good luck-Albi

Thanks-- that is helpful about the armor and harvesting things.

So the armor is called steel for 20's?

On the evac question, evac would doubtless be more valuable if they established safe spots in indoor and outdoor zones, but especially indoor zones that would mean you would not evac all the way back to the entrance. You would simply zone back to a safe spot-- also it would be good if it automatically cast smuggle at the same time as evac.

Armor from TD quests is currently the choice afaik. My lvl 30 brigand is still wearing the reward from the hq in GF.

Alienor:

What are the TD quests? Could you spell that out? And by GF, I assume you are referring to Greater Faydark. Once again, have no idea when you refer to "hq".

I started in Gorowyn and that line gives you great armour to use until you're in your 30s. From that point I've just harvested my own rares and created MC sets of each tier. Until you start raiding, that's good enough. 2. Depends entirely on your focus. I personally hate losing xp at all, even if it's minor. And I really hate spending money on something I could have avoided, even if it's a few silver. I'll choose to evac and kill things on the way back down again if they've respawned. Of course, you just may not care and want to do things with as much time savings as possible. I think if you sat down and tracked the difference in time savings between evacing and sucking up a rez it would be relatively minor. But then again, I don't see a difference in reaching 80 today versus tomorrow.
