View Full Version : New and old weapons
It seems that th patch improving master crafted weapon has not been retroactive. So basically you can find on sale 2 Oak staves which vastly differ. This have two consequences, potential scamming and a loss for amorer/woodworker that crafted weapon before the modification. They are very unlikely to sell those outdated weapon, unless they scam or fool someone.

About the scam part, new weapons no longer have the "pristine" in them, so it's one easy way to differentiate them (although there's still some very old weapons on the broker that were not made pristine back in the days you could make non pristine crafted gear). But the best way to differentiate is the proc; when you know what the new weapons look like, you can't get "scammed". And if there's people who want to pay the asked price for old weapons knowing their stats (because that can't be hidden), it's not really a scam is it? They pay for what they see.Anyway, there's not that much old weapons left on broker, and most of them are sold pretty cheap by weaponsmiths who still got some to try to recoup some costs And for the old weapons left alone, well, that makes them some old relic I just wish I could mount my old feysteel chainmail and my old oak wand to put them in my house as relics from the past of EQ2 :p

You can display your old Chainmail armor with a mannequin.

Caveat Emptor. Examine before you buy.

As for the "loss" issue, again it was pointed out that someone for whatever reason may want their old weapon and not want it unchanged. Maybe they prefer the stats overall even if the grand total is less, or maybe they prefer the old gleaming strike to the new imbue or blessing. There's also precident for this, there was also a change with rare crafted stats with LU24, and that was EVERY bit of rare crafted, not just weapons. The old items from that didn't change either. I still have one or two pre LU24 weapons on alts, maybe some Pre LU24 armor on an alt. Finally, I don't know of any dishonest artisans on my server who'd try to pass off a pre GU45 weapon as new, so I don't think trying to scam someone will be an issue.

A selection of the new weapons is also there in the same rack.It never occured to me that this could be considered "scamming". I disagree, most people don't read those forums many don't even know about new weapons.Anyway it's not crucial but people should be warned sso that they will pay attention.

Don't see how someone can be scammed unless they themseves are to dumb to even bother looking at the item before clicking buy. NOW one exception i could see to this WAS (as in past tense) that you couldn't see the stats of any item when you went to someone's home. This is NO LONGER the case so sorry no exception now to a dumb buyer. Although to be honest even when you couldn't see the stats of items in someone's house if the buyer was still too dumb/stupid/idiot to even bother research what it was they needed well then they deserve whatever they got.

The amount of in-game chat about it, conversation on this board, notices on EQ2Traders and Alla's and EQ2Players, plus the GU#45 patch notes available from the launchpad - I'd say the customer is fairly warned. If nothing else, people who are used to buying from WS have learned to check the stats on everything every level already, because they never progressed consistently before this. And those who are buying for the first time are probably checking the stats on everything anyway, because they don't yet know which is best for what. Are some people going to miss it anyway? Probably a few. But I liken these to my days in retail, when we could have sales displays up to the roof with signs 3 feet high saying specifically what brand, size, and pricing was on sale, and people would still ask for discounts on completely unrelated items. Then have a hissy fit that I was wrong, the signs weren't clear enough, and I should give them the discount anyway because "the customer is always right."I suppose of someone was really unhappy with something they'd bought from my broker listing and had not yet attuned it, I'd be willing to buy it back from them at the same price I'd listed it at (not including broker fee). If they have attuned it, they can get a partial refund from any NPC merchant. But really, with stuff from all over Norrath available on the broker, there's plenty of opportunity for them to compare and contrast new stuff with old. And we certainly can't scam them on commissions - even the most dishonest, price-gouging, double-dealing person in-game can only offer what they can craft, and all the old recipes are gone.
