Hlep, launching problem

I just bought RoK today and I am new to Everquest 2. I installed all the disks and when I launch I can't get past the launch pad. There isn't a spot to enter the world. I went to preferences and then it goes through everything and says update is complete.  Underneath that I have a gray update box and then  white lettering with the word download. Since there is nothing else to really click, I click that and then it says update is complete. Underneath that part it says Character selection is unavailable. I am really confused right now I would appreciate some help with this matter. Thanks.

It's not done updating. When it is, you will get a big red PLAY button, as shown below.<img src="http://www.vikinganswerlady.com/souls/Launchpad.jpg" alt="" border="0" />With your first character, you will not have any characters to select yet.  You must come in on the Character Select screen, where you will follow the prompts to create your new character. Once you have one or more characters, you will be able to select them from the dropdown just fine.The Launcher can be buggy. Sometimes the download inexplicably stops. Where my pic above says "Update complete" is a link - click it to restart the download. If it is really being a pain, close the launcher and re-start.Some people's ISPs will also throttle your bandwith.  If you have a bandwith limitation, part of the download will happen then your ISP chokes you and you have to wait some period before you can download more. I used to have this problem with my grossly inferior satellite cable company (Hughes.net)... they'd cut me off after 5MB and then I'd have to wait 12 hours.  Unless I downloaded between 2AM and 6AM.

Thank you,  I called customer support and they walked me through the process. I am downloading now, 3 1/2 hours to go.
