I suggest a post or a sticky of how to work around the seemingly absurd patcher download time.

My personal solution after working with Chat support.

I started at 555hr estimated time

Operating System > Windows Vista

Right click EQ2 icon, probably located on desktop. Select the compatibility tab, and select the "Run this program in compatibility mode for" box, and make sure it is running for Windows XP (Service Pack 2). Also on this window, select the box at the botom to "Run this program as administrator".

Rinse and repeat that for this the Launchpad icon in Program Files> Sony> Station> Launchpad... This did improve my patcher time.

Now I was at 22hr patcher time... Still no good.

Go to Windows Firewall and make sure to run an exception for EQ2.exe...

LOgged on patcher... YAY, 3hr patch time after ROK expansion disks installation!

Thats 555hrs to 3hrs... IDK hope this can help someone! ANd that its not repeat information.

It's always downloaded fast for me through the launcher.

But the patches need to be like downloadable and then you can apply them yourself - like many other games allow you to do (and mmorpgs too - e.g. lotro, with the books).

They're just nice to have around when you want to blitz everything now and again.

You can also have the optional content download while you play, instead of right away. This can save up to 10 hours.
