I did some experiments today in KP as I was questing (ding 72, and 3 more AA's -- go me!) and it seems that PE is most definitely best used on a fighter-type of mob. I used it on a scout to see if it would have higher damage than the fighter, but didn't notice a difference, other than that the scout was more fragile. The berserker pets I used never seemed to drop below about 60% hp when chaining mob after mob, but the scouts were dropping into red and I'd have to let them regen every couple of minutes.

I PE'd a templar and it let me cast Coercive Healing on it. That was kinda fun. But -- it did lower melee than the fighter pets, its nukes were laughable and if it took the time to cast a nuke it did less damage than melee. I didn't see it heal itself before I got fed up with it and released it.

PE'd a mage. Dropped it after 1 fight. PE spell damage is a complete joke.

PE'd an SK and it seemed comparable to the berserker. It even cast its own skellie pet a few times which did decent damage in its own right. Overall I think I prefered the zerk pet to the SK pet, though, since when it would cast a nuke it was again pretty laughable, though at least it didn't do it often.

I also PE'd a couple of critters. They were all some sort of generic fighter and seemed to do fine. Thing about PE is that whatever I do hit with it is like a decent DoT on the mob -- I'm doing so much damage now that even with hate transfer to the pet it never holds aggro -- I have to keep the mobs rooted to keep them from heading toward me.

I also charmed an SK. It seemed comparable to the PE'd SK.

Charmed a wizard -- still very nice! Thought about charming a coercer mob, but didn't. I will do that tomorrow, perhaps.

Charmed an inquisitor -- also very nice and it healed itself nicely too if it ever dropped into orange. It's not nuking for 5K like it used to before the charm nerf, but it's a lot nicer then the 400-ish it does with PE. Still in the 2800-3600 range that I saw with charm.

I didn't charm a scout or zerk. There didn't seem to be any point with PE being so good for them.

So overall, I'd have to say that once PE is an option, it's definitely going to be the tank pet/solo spell of choice for those who don't want to live on the edge. And those that do will charm mage or priest pets like always. I think it's nice to have the additional option.

Too bad neither option is good for a group, though.

Yah, I could only get my pet to pull 200-300 dps in Hate. This was off of imp possessions mostly. I was pet pulling in MC and the first pet I sent in to pull lasted FOREVER, he had to have well over 10k hp. The 2nd pet of that same mob died fairly instantly. No matter what, the DPS is bleh. Thats ok though, we just need a meatshield.

Just some FYI for you but if you possess a conjuror or a necromancer they will cast a master looking tank pet. If it dies it is almost immediately recast. Does NOT work this way with charm but the PE it does. Granted the tank is not controlable by you and it's dps is low but it is free dps over the essence.

Possess Essence > Charm when you are in a grey or green zone mostly, since the possess scales with level of player.Nice if you want a tank pet too.Possess offtanks 1 mob you kill the other one for exampleAnd you can cast mind on pet to inc the dps of it a little.

but

Charm mostly more dps then possess with the right pet.

Any feeling on the difference in mob DPS compared to the spell quality? Is it very dramatic like charm (A3 vs M1 charm for example) or is the difference between say the A3 and M1 PE pretty negligible?

I honestly just think it's based off of "If you have a M1 charm". If you do, the charm is better hands down, yes it also comes with the risk factor... but seriously, I have yet to see a pet that's even comparable that's PEed VS Charmed. Charmed is just superior if you can get your hands on the M1, period. Given PE is great for grey zone mentoring and if you are farming something and AFK a lot, but besides that honestly the spell it self is worthless. I've tried it in multipul raid zones now and it's funny as hell... but totally not worth the 3conc at all.

I bought M1 possession a loooooong time ago for grins, since it was going for something like 40g and to have it made ad3 would have cost me a lot more than that just for the acrylia. So that's all I know for the PE since when it converted over it maintained its M1.

I have M1 Domination too, so I'm comparing M1 to M1, but I don't have any experience with Ad3 PE to go from.

And fwiw, on that necro thing -- I couldn't find any necros in KP. There were mobs that cast the necro blighted pack, but they were wizards somehow. I ran in to Fens and pe'd the fishman hydromancers though -- and yeah, they had a lot of fun with their scout pets. Still way lower dps than charming them, though.
