View Full Version : Zoning problems since LU 45

Since yesterday's patch, when I zone, about 1/2 the time I remain stuck with the screen up telling me that it's receiving zone data, at which point it never receives the zone data and I'm forced to log out via the task manager (Vista 64 Ultimate). Prior to the patch I never encountered this problem.I even did a full scan by deleting the scan cache with no results. Any ideas or suggestions, please? So far it's happened in Freeport, Sinking Sands, Neriak and Lesser fay, several times. It's really getting annoying. It also took several attempts this morning to get to the character selection screen. It seems to happen more frequently if I change characters.

Try to power cycle your modem/router. If that fails, open a ticket by logging in <a href="https://auth.station.sony.com/login?service=https%3A%2F%2Fsecure.station.sony.co m%2Femailupdate%2Fj_acegi_cas_security_check&theme=station&locale=en_US" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">here</a>, and then PMing me the reference # please. Thanks

Will give that a try, I'm using Fiber Optics, never had this problem before.

Everyone I have talked to is having issues with server instability since GU#45. Sometimes you get stuck like the OP and sometimes you end up with the 4 character screen saying all servers are down. Usually this happens when zoning, but also when changing characters or logging on. Yesterday I quit palying after it happened for about the tenth time. It is still affecting gameplay today.

Same thing here. Twice booted trying to zone and once just attempting to run into Gorowyn from the docks.

A new one popped up tonight, scared the heck out of me, logged out to desktop, it logged me to the Character Screen with only 4 characters, logged back in, the rest were there again.Resetting the Router seems to have somehow stopped the zoning issues, although I'm getting major lag while zoning still.Checked my bandwidth, seems to be in the 1,900+ range, bit higher than T1, so it cant be bandwidth.

**Update: I noticed after a reboot (got lagged out of Unrest twice... grrr) that my Avast lost the exclusion I set up for EQ2. I put that back in there and it seemed to improve things a bit. At least I didn't get lagged out after that while in KP. Did the update reset something with the exe file that would wipe it from AV settings?

Yes, updates will update the executable as well to a different version so that your firewall will not see it as the same program. I am happy to hear you had that taken care!

I'm experiencing this problem on the Bazaar server also. Logged in yesterday and had extremely long zoning times on that server. I logged on another server, and had no issues. So it can't be my firewall or router.

Oh, its not a router issue. In fact, I haven't talked to one person who hasn't been having this issue.Besides the long zoning times and the mysterious disappearance of characters (until you camp 3 or 4 times on another one), I actually had a really funny little bug.I got locked out and when I could finally get back in, I log in, and I was standing next to a clone of myself. That "fake" me has been sitting there for a couple days now. I had a good time taking all sorts of funny screen shots of myself and my clone. Eventually a scorpion guy killed it, so now there's my clone's corpse lying there for a day or so. Heh, fun stuff. Seriously the zoning though... I have to just stop playing until its fixed because I can't get anything done. Oh im on Bazaar by the way and everytime I lose the Bazaar toons all my Kithikor ones are still there. Never had a problem on Kithikor yet.

I dread zoning as I have a 25% chance it appears of hanging up and either waiting a very very long time or crashing out to re-load the zone. One thing I did notice is when it happens, it appears that it's trying to load the zone before unloading the previous zone. It's happened so many times that I see a different sequence when I lock up.

Still having issues with it today on the Bazaar. Yesterday I couldn't find New Tunaria. I am hoping the "bouncing" of Greater Faydark will cure this.

The same thing is happening to me, and its getting old. I had the weekend off for the first time in 2 yrs, figured I would get some leveling and or writs done-I can't because everytime i zone into the ts instance, i lockup, or get booted to the 4 character screen. Does anyone know when they plan to fix this? and is it just a bazaar server problem? I eventually just gave up, and found something else to do, but would have liked to play the game i pay every month for<img src="/smilies/9d71f0541cff0a302a0309c5079e8dee.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />

I haven't been experiencing this issue with my game. First off, if you're running a firewall then make sure to remove and re-add the game to the exception list. Assuming that doesn't work, I'd like to see the tracert information from the people being effected by the issue to see what they have in common. You can find the info on how to run those tests at the following link.<a href="http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/posts/list.m?topic_id=353617" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=353617</a>

<p>I have experienced the same issue since the last LU on Bazaar. I will get stuck at Receiving Zone Info 2/5 zones and sometimes on every zone. </p><p>I encountered a new bug yesterday, where I was just sitting there in gorowyn, and purchased an adornment. The plat was taken from me but it took 5 minutes for me to recieve the adornment and then I crashed to desktop with no error message. </p><p> I reloaded eq2 and had Areubleedin set to go on the drop down list and when I started to enter the game it took me to the character select screen instead. I chose Areubleedin and pressed play and I got a message saying the character does not exist. I had to restart eq2 twice before it would let me log back in on that character. Once I was back in game, I zoned into my house in Gorowyn and it took me 10 minutes to zone while it stayed on Receiving Zone Info again. </p><p>If you were to pop on Bazaar and do a poll on how many people this is effecting you would get a 95% or higher response from the community.</p><p>I have other characters on various other servers that I don't play anymore and have no issues zoning with any of those characters so I know it's not due to any settings on my pc, firewall, cable modem, graphics cards, cpu, os, or anything else you would like to point a finger at.</p><p>Lastly, there are characters that are sitting around in various zones that have been put on Livegamer. These characters are posted for sale and have been moved off the server but yet are standing around in game. You cannot send them a tell but you can inspect them like they were standing there but in fact they are in an auction on the Livegamer website.</p><p>This all started happening after the last LU and hopefully your team and stop looking at isp's, computers, routers, firewalls for individual people and maybe look at some logs or go create a character over there and experience it yourself.</p><p>Thanks.</p>

I understand your frustrations at not being able to play. This is not the place to make idle threats of spamming threads of issue or claiming a PC is blocking your from going somewhere. The former can help promote an inability to post on these forums and the latter, well thats just silly.I do play the game daily, on a couple of different machines. Sp far I have not experienced this problem nor has anybody I play with in my guild. I am NOT saying I do not believe you have the issue, it is just taking some time to figure out why you are having this issue. If you know the fix, please by all means post it. For those that have posted their info, or sent me a PM with a support ticket reference number, thank you. I am trying to see what you have in common with each other to cause the crash. Thanks for your input, I hope we find a way soon to keep you all in game happily killing rats!

Whenever the problem (best summed up by Clawhammer's post) happens the whole server has it happen to everybody. (at the same time if somebody tries to buy off broker it won't go through - then they can't zone or try to buy a 2nd item because it'll tell them they have a consignment transaction in progress) Then whatever it is that is jamming everything up breaks free and everybody starts being able to zone at the same time (and your broker transaction finally goes through if you are at a broker instead of trying to zone). Things will be ok for a bit, different servers seem to have varying degrees of how frequently it happens. Then everybody, at the same time again, gets stuck while zoning and broker transactions stop working again. The two seem to be based on the same thing - you'll see people that say they just got done with a 10 minute zone in chat channels, while at the same time a broker purchase you tried to make approximately 10 minutes ago finally goes through.

Bazaar Server here:If I wait long enough, sometimes up to 5 minutes, I will eventually zone. To add to the problem now, the Broker is becoming more problematic. I can purchase an item, happened at three different times today, on different login's, and then wait up to 10 minutes to receive the item. During that period of time you can't sell or purchase anything else or zone, as you have a transaction in progress. It's really getting annoying when a good 25% of the time zoning your left hanging.
<cite>TSR-TrevorG wrote:</cite><blockquote>Nope I don't play on Bazaar. I will look more into that specific server then.</blockquote>Yes, please do play on the Bazaar (as you will notice everyone posting plays on the Bazaar). But you have to keep zoning as sometimes it will shoot you through and sometimes it will lock you up at <u>Receiving Zone Info</u> for about 5 minutes. If you wait, you will eventually get through. Also, any update on this? An estimate of when this might get resolved as it is getting quite annoying that it can take an hour to just get to an instance.

I dont think that SoE employees are allowed to play on Bazaar. I think Sony is worried that their employees will commit some type of fraud on the Livegamer. Thats also the reason why were not allowed to have Guides <img src="/eq2/images/smilies/c30b4198e0907b23b8246bdd52aa1c3c.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" width="15" height="15" />Unfortunately, that leaves us Bazaar-ions left in the dark a lot. I think everyone with toons on Bazaar deserves some free play time. I will petition for this, and suggest everyone do the same.FUNNYLast night someone in my raid was so frustrated he called up sony. The CSR rep told him NO ONE had reported this issue. I doubt this is the case, but just in case, maybe we all should be calling up the Sony CSR phone line. He managed to finagle a few free weeks of EQ2 out of his phone call, and now its OFFICALLY been reported I guess right?

<p>I was so frustated with the problems on Bazaar that I spent most of my time on Runnyeye yesterday. Guess what? No problems at all on Runnyeye, none! Back to The Bazaar and surprise surprise, the problems are still there <img src="/smilies/9d71f0541cff0a302a0309c5079e8dee.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></p><p>I too have noticed that many people are having difficulties at the same exact time; long zoning that ends abrubtly for everyone, delayed banking transactions, lost toons hanging about, odd little things happening that shouldn't like whole zones disappearing or personal items that suddenly disappear. I have even sent in-game petitions and reports about some of them with no response at all. </p><p>This problem is too widespread and too well documented for it to be something on the user's end. If regular employees are not allowed to play on The Bazaar to check things out that is just absurb. Sure I could understand that on a regular basis, but not even special testing characters to see what is going on? </p>

<p>Have had the same issue on bazaar...actually just tried 4 times to log into my character in willow wood before it finally got past "receiving zone info"</p><p>Have had other issues earlier this week with being unable to zone into certain areas such as Sebilis or CoA</p>
First post but I wanted to add that my wife and I both play on Bazaar and the zoning problem affects us both and it makes playing almost unbearable. Further the broker seems screwed up server-wide - when you buy or sell an item the transaction doesn't actually take place for up to 15 minutes afterwards. This means that if you try and use the broker during this time you get the "Transaction in progress" message and cannot do anything on the broker. Both the zoning and broker problem seem like serverwide issues - the chats are full constantly of people complaining about both problems.

"Hi, we updated our software, now ton's of people are having the same zoning problem, can you please help us figure out what's wrong with your hardware/software that worked just fine prior to the patch?". So far I reinstalled the software, that was the 1st suggestion, then I reset my security settings, then I reset my router, then I did a speed check, seems I'm still at almost T3 speed. Oh, then the updated video drivers, now I get video quirks that I did not have before, still lock up zoning. Then there was the quirk this morning where one account, on the same computer could not log in, but the other could. That eventually worked, seems you have to try like a dozen times to get past the servers down, no their up, no your missing characters, wait their back, but won't load garbage.Seems the account was not a problem, loaded fine on my other PC, seems the software was not a problem, as I could load my other account. All in all I chalk that one up to the "Boy, that's a new one" category. Well, I'm done ranting I guess, sorry all. I'm just frustrated as I find my game interupted more and more by this new problem. Even worse when your grouping and playing zone roulette.

<p>This is obviously affecting multiple servers. I can attest that there is not one single person on Vox whom I have spoken to that is not facing this problem repeatedly, every day since gu45. I only can hope that the patch today is going to address this issue because I think I can speak for everyone on a sever experiencing this issue when I say that this is enough to make the game just plain not fun. I have been a loyal fan of this game since it's launch because it is... it WAS fun. With the timing of a direct competition release I can say with great confidence that delay on resolving this will lead to a loss of many customers. </p><p>I am not sure if this information helps but I have not seen it mentioned thus far. When I experienced the zoning problem on multiple occasions I had guildies in vent with me also experiencing the problem (on different networks, ISPs, etc.), and eventually everyone zoned through at the same time. Obviously this is server side! Furthermore during the zone lag I have also had people in vent with me trying to log in who at that time were seeing only 4 characters with server down (server down message would go away at the same time as everyone finally zoned through) and then getting kicked to desktop when they tried to select one of those characters and sign in. This is absolutly server side, not client side. SOE please fix this issue before it becomes the straw that breaks any more backs. I hope it is well understood just how many accounts may be at stake here! Please step up and show the SOE community that our long standing loyalty and continued patronage are warranted, appreciated, and valued.</p>
Could the problem be isolated to exchange servers? Some sort of live-gamer problem?

<p>It is definitely an Exchange Server issue. I played all day with my husband on Runnyeye without incidence. This evening, my husband logged onto The Bazaar ( our primary server ) and he had problems again. <p>This is NOT a user problem! NO one will find any meaningfull commonality with routers, router settings, ISPs, computers, user software, etc. </p><p>THIS IS AN SOE ISSUE!!!!! It is the Exchange servers that are broken!!! </p><p>ALL of us with alternate characters on different servers are NOT HAVING PROBLEMS WITH NON-ECHANGE SERVERS!!!!!!!! We only experience these issues with our toons on the Exchange Servers!</p><p>Perhaps the reason you are not getting many calls on this is because we have experienced so many problems with the Exchange servers since that infamous security fix last year that we are just not expecting any help from calls. As has been posted on the Bazaar forums, the developers are aware of the issue and are actively working to correct it at this point. Our request for more information is simply to be used in creating test systems at our office to better gauge the problem. I'm sorry that it's taking as long as it is and hopefully we'll have a fix for you shortly.

<p>I've sent TSR-TrevorG a PM with my system/trace info (yesterday).</p><p>I thought it might be worth mentioning here that I've got 4 accounts and the *only* account that is having the "receiving zone info" problem is the one that I have linked to LiveGamer (pre-registered - never claimed the pre-reg bonus item). The other 3 are not linked and so far I have not experienced any issues what-so-ever with them. </p><p>I play on the Bazaar server on all 4 accounts and have successfully logged in the non-LG accounts on the same system/connection/zone that the LG account has continually failed to load into.</p>

<p>Its not just accounts that are linked to LG. Neither of mine are set up on Livegamer and I have zoning problems on both of them.</p>

<p>Hmm.. that was the only difference I could think of between the accounts.</p><p>I made a new character on the Bazaar and crashed to desktop when I tried to enter the game world. My characters on AB on that same account haven't had any issues. I made a character on Vox a few minutes ago and was able to successfully log him in and out several times.</p><p>Just doesn't make a whole lot of sense that I'm only having issues with one account on one server.</p><p>Oh, well.. hope they get it fixed soon.</p>

<p><span style="font-size: x-small;font-family: verdana, geneva;">The zoning problem on VOX is horrible, and seems to be getting worse.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: x-small;">Several days ago I petitioned it, and got a response that said vox is fine, that I should do a full file scan. I did that, no help. I re-petitioned, explaining that it was happening simultaneously to my WHOLE GUILD (talking on vent), so it was not just my system. Got another response saying that, well ... OK, there is an issue on VOX and we are "looking into it".</span></p><p><span style="font-size: x-small;">Since then the problem has gotten worse. I can't zone out of my apartment. Can't zone into a tradeskill area. Can't zone into RoV. Adventuring is pretty much out of the question. Raiding is a joke.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: x-small;">The game has become basically unplayable, at least on VOX. It has been bad since the LU, and seems to be getting worse. I am putting in this last plea to fix this. Me and friends are being driven away. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: x-small;">Please help <img src="/smilies/9d71f0541cff0a302a0309c5079e8dee.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></span></p>

<p>After playing all morning uneventufully on Runnyeye I decided to try The Bazaar again. I cannot even sucessfully get into the game because its says: </p><p><b>There is currently no server for this character's zone, please try again in a few minutes.</b></p><p>This is really getting old. Has anyone heard if a fix is in sight? I personally believe the issues we are seeing are due in part to Livegamer accessing game databases.</p>

While the symptoms associated with your issue are similar to the ones experienced by others in this thread, I don't think they're the same. Please post the connection related info requested in the 'read this' post at the top of the forums. You may also want to PM me your station name so I can make sure it's not an account-side problem(It's possible, even if your friend is able to access the account).

<p>I have been having this problem sporatically. What's really got my panties in a bunch though, is my massive loss of FPS.</p><p>I was running 24 fps on high performance. I have a geForce 6600 agp 256mb. </p><p>As of gu 45, i'm getting 8 fps walking from the wfp broker to the bank, going as low as 4 fps. I tried the shard of hate, i got 3 fps there, and we only had 12 people in zone.</p><p>My computer didn't change, my settings are at "Stick Figures", but i'm getting 3 fps? Something's very wrong here.</p>

<p>I think that we have been more than patient. If you can not provide a fix by now, how about some useful and insightful feedback instead of just telling us you are looking into it. Has the problem even been identified yet? Has it been identified and there is an estimated date when we may expect resolution? </p><p>If you can not provide any of that then about we discuss some compensation for the lost playtime, and frustration this has caused us? I think it is safe to say we are all feeling neglected, and unappreciated by now, to put it very lightly, and some REAL feedback is long over due!</p>

<p>Well, off to bed. Raid was canceled cause evryone had zone times that lasted forever. I gave up hoping to zone three times and restarted game, but I've gotten right tired of that. WIll find my fun in front of the tv <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></p>
so how much longer is this problem going to be, because this is really getting to the point of quiting the game.. out of about 5 hrs of playing theres about 1 hr of zoneing or more.. this is a big insult to every paying customer on The Bazaar server.

<cite>ClawHammr wrote:</cite><blockquote>Any news from the Tech/Dev team ?</blockquote>Yes, just take a look at the dev tracker, we've been responding to a thread in the Bazaar forum.Just a general rule of thumb, it's much easier to get dev interaction when there is a single, consolidated thread about a topic than a bunch of small threads. Plus big threads just naturally get more attention. We are making two modifications that should hopefully resolve the issue. The first fix will only affect Exchange servers and will be hotfixed tomorrow. The additional fix will improve zone loading times on all servers but will not make tomorrow's hotfix as it needs a bit more testing. It will however be hotfixed as soon as its thoroughly tested.
