I am getting frustrated and a little embarrassed by my performance lately.

Are you guys able to solo heal the Kunark instances?

Lately I have been feeling like i did way back at launch, before wards factored mitigation.

I seem to always be behind, stuck in long casts and waiting for recast timers. Prewarding helps but in many pick up groups that doesnt work so well.

Debuffing helps but not enough.

In EoF instances I managed fine..even with multiple heroic encounters...but Kunark is kickin my [Removed for Content].

So are people duo healing mostly? Have you made any adjustments you can pass along?

I took 3 months off, came back and only recently hit 80, did they alter anything significant between January and March?

Cheers,

Healingfrost

Its tough at first, but it can be done. The first few times I did the instances I was the only healer and was still sub 75, took some wipes, but the groups understood. It gets A LOT easier once you start getting better gear. Get the Overloaded Heal items. As many as you can, and that will really show.

I would second the suggestion to get as many overloaded heal items as you can, without sacrificing too much of your other items. I think I have four of them and I get a real nice proc on my wards. It makes a big difference to get that heal proc and gives you time to damage and debuff. This thread has a list of items and locations. http://www.eq2flames.com/defilers/2...oaded-heal.html

All of the RoK instances can be solo healed by a defiler, but a lot of that depends on the group. Just within my guild groups there is a big difference between tanks; some tanks I routinely solo heal and others I ask for a second healer. You can solo heal a pug if the group works together, but if they do not you will need the second healer.

I would recommend that you try to latch on to a good tank or make a list of the good tanks from your pugs and keep in tough with them for groups in the tougher areas like lower seb and maidens. Even having a part of the group that are used to each other can make a huge difference.

Overloaded heal items, along with heal crit, casting speed reduction and +heal do really help and they all come from quests/instances within RoK. There is also a mage robe from SoF that can be equipped that improves casting speed as well iirc. I solo healed on my Defiler pretty much all the way through. If you're having difficulty, maybe find a nice Coercer buddy so you can have CH all the time and that should do the trick nicely in letting you solo heal, in combination with getting those bonus items. I only focused on +heal crit, casting speed and +heal personally as really in Chel getting a proc off the overloaded item that's only a couple hundred hp really isn't more beneficial than getting a nice crit in imo. Also if you don't have Tendrils of Horror m2 selection from the previous t7 m2 choices, you should switch that choice as it's a good one to have when there isn't an upgrade t8 version.

Quite doable, I do it daily but I will say: Under level cap, without adept III abilities and many of the nice overloaded heal quest items it will be difficult. However even being geared out with masters it can be very difficult if your tank overpulls, the dps over does it, or my favorite two fighter classes fighting for aggro. Guess the brain damage from being slapped around keeps them from realizing it takes time to cast wards and heals and that shamans are a preventative class you effectively have to be ahead of the game and prevent damage rather then trying to replace hitpoints. And this just works best if the aggro stays stable on a good tank, which takes both the tank and the dps to do their respective jobs. Also debuffing is a secondary role to me for shamans since back in GU 13 when some of our debuffs got really neutered. Only three are really effective Bane of shielding, Umbral Trap, and the attack speed reducer that is escaping my mind atm. Hideous Seal and Abasement are really just things to throw out if you have the time, and even then I'd rather throw out Malis and Fuliginous then those two. And if your group has the dps really don't even bothering debuffing, its not worth the casting time if the mob dies in 10 seconds.

If I don't preward, I find it very difficult to keep up with solo healing sometimes. When RoK was released and I was just leveling up, I didn't have too many issues (even without overloaded procs). I healed brawlers, knights, warriors, and even scouts with few issues on heroic content. With new gear it did become much easier, and I was able to keep all of my spells at Adept III quality due to having a Sage alt. With my other characters, I've noticed more and more shamans in general that do not preward their group. Those same shamans usually have immense difficulty solo healing Kunark content and complain they need a second healer. I do not know if that's the culprit (I'm not saying it is!), but if you aren't prewarding I would consider that strategy to see if it helps.

If that's not it, go with making sure all spells are at least Adept III quality. The only spell I never did upgrade was my single target fear spell. The rest were premade before I ever hit the level to need them. The overloaded healing and shelter procs also help a ton (overloaded heals moreso than shelter I think). One more thing--with RoK I changed my AA spec over to get max heal crits with AGI. My other two lines are STA and WIS, which was my setup pre-RoK. In the defiler tree, I added Curseweaving to my AA's, which helped a lot with getting debuffs off and landed. In the higher content, where NPC's are yellow to 80, the damage comes in quick until I do get my first debuffs off. I rely on the prewards before the pull to keep everything under control until the first couple of debuffs land.
