Ok, i was reading some of the stickied posts, and they wernt making much since to me, until i looked at the date posted... the one with "Current state of the Assassin" was september 2005... So out dated, yet still stickied. why?

So i was thinking we should start a new thread with current info, in the attempt to get some changes done.

Over all I am VERY happy with the class. My main issues are with the wording/coding of a few of our AA's Its cost me quite a bit in respec's

Perfectionist: the end skill in the Str line on the pred tree. States that it Reduces the cooldown on our attacks with cooldowns over 2 mins long by 50%. In reality it reduces it by 33%, 3min to 2 min, 15 mins to 10 mins. Still a VERY usefull skill, but they need to fix that small error.

Obfuscation: 4th skill in the Wis line on the pred tree. With 8 points, states that it reduces the cooldown and reuse speed of stealth and stalk abilities by 100%. In reality reduces it by 50%. Stealth is a 10 sec reuse with a 2 sec cast. with 8 points reduces it to 5 sec reuse with 1 sec cast. It's been a few years since i was in high school, (5) but 100% of 10 is 10, and 10 - 10 = 0... IMO takes this skill from VERY usefull to completely worthless. Stealth remains off my toolbar in favor of stalk.

Repeated Stabbings: End ability in the tricks line of the Assassin tree. States reduces the recovery time by 100%, again in reality reduces by 50% down from a .5 sec recovery globaly to a .25 sec recovery. Still a must have skill imo though.

Now obviously they arnt going to change the math to fit the skills descriptions, but they should at least fit the descriptions to either fit or better describe the true effect.

Please, every one, chime in with anything you all think needs fixed.

It looks like the percentages were figured at the wrong end of the equation - i.e. 3 mins to 2 mins is a 1 min reduction, which is 50% of the final value, rather than listing correctly that it's 33% of the original value.

I know I did back in the day, and someone explained it to me this way:

First off, Perfectionist, if you read the EFFECTS of the spell and not the description, states that:

Attack-based combat arts on long reuse timers have their reuse times sped up by 50% . . .

The important word is "sped up" as in, the clock timer is sped up to reach the reuse time. The actual reuse time isn't reduced.

Think of it this way: Mortal Blade has a 3 minute reuse timer. So, when you use Mortal Blade, your "reuse clock" starts ticking away. When it hits the 3 minute mark (or 180 seconds), you can use Mortal Blade again. BUT, if you could make it so your clock actually moves 50% faster than it normally does, then when 60 REAL-TIME seconds go by, your clock will actually read 90 seconds. When a second 60 real-time seconds go by, your clock will read 180 seconds . . . and you can use Mortal Blade again. Real-time seconds = 120 . . . or 2 minutes. Although your CLOCK thinks 3 minutes (or 180 sec.) went by. . . . Yeah . . . it's screwy and confusing, but that's how SoE does it.

Another way it was explained to me was: If you had to go 180 miles and drove 60 miles an hour, it would take you 3 hours to get there. If you went 50% faster (90 mph) it would only take you 2 hours to get there . . .

Now, take the above example and apply it to Obfuscation and Repeated Stabbing. Although THEIR descriptions actually SAY "reduces casting and reuse" or "recovery" times . . . (even more confusing) I suspect Sony STILL uses the above mathematics to 'reduce' the times. I.E. your reuse CLOCK is going 100% FASTER . . . thus reducing the time it takes by 50%.

Go Sony for making things convoluted and confusing . . .

- Charn, 80 Assassin. Guk

Yea, I understand the math, and wether it can be justified or not isnt my issue... its the fact that people have to TRY to justify it. should just be re-worded to make it clear what benifit it gives. XD.

BUT this cant be the only issue with assassin's! please! tell me what other issues some have had with our class!

I betrayed a couple months ago, and I have to admit, changing from a Ranger to an Assassin was like stepping up from a Yugo to a Ferrari. Those guys have at least three CA lines that never make it to a hotbar. Yes, there are some annoyances, but nothing I'd consider a real issue. The biggest annoyances are some of the buffs/procs we get from other classes that break stealth. But that's about all I've noticed so far.

I'll start one, I was PvPn against a ranger, and they did to me over 4k in auto-attk dmg (ranged) in less than 3 seconds.....I want that....Considering we can normally pull 2k in T8...That was nearly half my HP *poof* gone and I hadn't even closed the gap yet...

Actually its a lot easier to think this way. 50% sped up= divide current speed by 1.5. 100% = divide current speed by 2. That +35% casting speed down the agi line is like dividing the time by 1.35.

As for current issues there are none and i hope it stays that way. Its nice that no one complains at us for pretty much anything.

Have you seen the PVP forums? every day theres like a nerf brigands or Rangers dps is out of control and swashies reach is way OP, But theres rarely anything on assassins. we're the only scout class aside from bards (but they can't dps their way out of a wet paper bag) that people think meh, they're ok.
